Well it's just that - Do what thou wilt an it harm none - it's the harm none that's the key, you have freedom, but you have the responsibility to behave in a manner that isn't detrimental to your fellow human. Unfortunately many religions don't seem to do that, they put the rights of one group above another even within their teachings and anyone else who doesn't believe that even lower.

The men who did this didn't pick on men as they might have got a good kicking back (and they don't have an interest in groping men I guess).

Ultimately it is our politicians and police who need to be talkling about what THEY are going to do to protect our rights and persons, NOT what we have to do to keep ourselves safe and at arms length from these vile people.

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 14/01/2016 14:42

Pangurban. My letters have focussed on police inaction and minimisation amid political pressure in Germany and Sweden. Plus the apparent ignoring of crimes against women refugees.

MariscallRoad · 14/01/2016 14:45

Thais applies to swimming pools. www.thelocal.se/20160108/swimming-hall-split-pools-between-men-and-women

Pangurban1 Thu 14-Jan-16 14:18:04. I ve read these news. Police here in UK say if you have something in your possession then you are assumed you may use it… so perhaps they got rid of the evidence. Can u imagine hitting the wrong button?

BeccaMumsnet · 14/01/2016 14:47

@polentapies

Ok, the petition title is 80 characters, then there is a field for Background - a description of the petition, which is 300 characters so we could amend the original above, and there is a field for additional information (Optional - background information, evidence and references) - This could direct people here, with the permission of Mumsnet? Anything else?

MNHQ can we direct people to a thread here which will link to other threads perhaps?

Hi polentapies - apologies for the delay. Yes, this is absolutely fine.

Constancegardner · 14/01/2016 14:49

isnt being spat in the street by someone of different gender, race etc, a hate crime, an arrestable offence, or only in some instances. Though I can understand why you wouldn't want to report
Reading the comments section in newspapers and fora such as this, it seems that a great deal of people are deeply unhappy about the way things are going. That certain vocal groups are privileged and their beliefs accommodated even if it mean rescinding (sp?) existing regulation eg. stunning and halal in slaughterhouses.
By the way, does anyone know of anything happened (ie prosecution) to the slaughter house workers in a halal slaughter house who abused the animals before killing them? There was video evidence. Didn't hear of any court action myself but may have missed it.
Are politicians really happy to let resentment build? I know platforms such as this are rather bubble like and can be dismissed but they seem woefully out of touch on so many issues, even ones where actual scientific evidence abounds which points out the folly of their in/actions, neonics, water management etc

VertigoNun · 14/01/2016 14:49

BeccaMumsnet, thank you. We just need someone willing to start the petition.

Moreshabbythanchic · 14/01/2016 14:52

I have also been spat at in the street and called a white whore. When I told this on another thread a while ago I was called a liar, told it never happened and that I was unhinged.

So some people on MN are happy to disbelieve muslims are ever racist.

DespicableBee · 14/01/2016 14:54

www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/ap/article-3399266/Cologne-prosecutors-offer-reward-New-Years-Eve-attacks.html

So they are now offering 10,000 Euros to anyone with information on the cologne attacks!

VertigoNun · 14/01/2016 14:56

Victim blaming and minimising didn't work, police investigation didn't work, not bribes...

VertigoNun · 14/01/2016 14:56

Now bribes

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 14/01/2016 14:58

Oh dear. Clutching at straws.

DespicableBee · 14/01/2016 15:01

total, 739 victims have come forward — mostly women — of whom 430 alleged they had been sexually assaulted in some way.

If these figures are correct from that article that's alot more women who have come forward
Over 700 women, in one square in one night wft??? Isn't this more like a terrorist act?
I just don't understand how anyone can minimise this

Frankfurterwuerstchen · 14/01/2016 15:02

So imagine if somone who is living in Germany illegally comes forward with information about the perpetrators. What then?

sportinguista · 14/01/2016 15:08

I'm afraid it happens around once a week at least so I'd be having to report a lot! Most of the older men hate it if you meet their gaze too and don't scuttle past head down (fraid I'm not gonna do that).

DS gets a lot of religious talk foisted on him at school (from the kids) to the extent I've told him to tell them that school is for work and religion belongs at home. He is not impressed by it at all!

Moreshabby a hindu firend of mine was told to go home to India by some muslim ladies, who had apparently forgotten that 2 genereations back their parents/grandparents were guests of this country. People of all creeds/colours/races are capable of racism it's one of humanity's more unpleasant traits!

Pangurban1 · 14/01/2016 15:12

Well, it is more to highlight out that the state itself is hiding evidence of attacks against women to protect the perpetrators.

I will look to see if there is a letter to MP when I have more time.

Could a question be asked in Parliament to highlight what is happening wrt agents of the state hiding evidence and thus protecting perpetrators of attacks against women and make it an issue so that police cannot so easily do the same here.

The issue of what we can do to protect ourselves is to point out attacks against women are not being dealt with.

Pangurban1 · 14/01/2016 15:15

So they deleted the CCTV and now have the barefaced cheek to act like they are doing everything. But 'oh, dear, if we only had CCTV of the mass attacks.

Moreshabbythanchic · 14/01/2016 15:16

Yes, these were British born muslims. Looking back, I was standing alone waiting for my DH and there was probably about 7-8 of them, they gradually got closer to me in a circle, obviously not worth touching as I'm old but still worthy of being intimidated and verbally abused.

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 14/01/2016 15:19

Well yes I was maybe over scrupulousvin what I said. I didn't post here, they were a bit specific and not useful for others.

iPost · 14/01/2016 15:21

So they are now offering 10,000 Euros to anyone with information on the cologne attacks

I can't see them spending much money. So it's a nice cheap way of "being seen to do something." rather than actually doing something.

Neither the female victims, nor eye witnesses are likely to be able to identify more than a handful of the men in the mobs. It's hard enough to remember one stranger's face. Fat chance when there were many whirling around you.

Becuase it was a tight mob there is little possibility of proving that a hand of a man in a mob touched the victim. Even if his face can be picked out from video footage of the mob.

On the rare occasion you find footage of a man in a mob surround a victim and you catch his hand on the victim he'll claim ".I was trying to grab her and pull her out of the mob, to help her"

Reasonable doubt means prosecutions, let alone successful prosecutions, are going to be as rare as rocking horse shit. Cos CSI isn't like it is on the telly. Certainly not where I live anyway.

Which pretty much green lights the mob sexual assault MO for contagion. This criminal activity may end up becoming the prefered form of assault for scrotes of all nations. Because it represents

-a high chance of successful assault

-a very low chance of arrest, prosecution and conviction

-a lowered social disapproval rating, cos the people who would normally scream bloody murder at the sexual assault of women have fallen silent, or gone all "minimise, victim blame and muddy the waters"

No wonder today my local pharmacy has pepper spray featuring heavily in its shop window at 9 euros a pop. It usually has anti cellulite cream and herbal bollocks.

Pangurban1 · 14/01/2016 15:23

Wrt the no platforming thing where feminists are intimidated along with the religious effers. It is Fascism having taken over.

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 14/01/2016 15:24

If you are unhappy with German government maybe it is worth sending an email to the German ambassadors office in London. I probably will next.

fakenamefornow · 14/01/2016 16:18

Regarding pepper spray and the legality (or not) and practically of using it in a crowd. You know that die they have in security tags on clothes so that if you break the tag it sprays die all over the clothes making them unwearable? I wonder if that exists in a spray? So that if somebody assaulted you, you could spray them with permanent die (if you can manage) making identification of the perpitrater possible?

LongWayRound · 14/01/2016 16:30

Can someone please link to a reliable source for the allegation about police being told to delete CCTV? I'm not saying it didn't happen: with the information that's been coming out in the past few days, I can believe almost anything. But it is a very serious allegation, if it is true, and it would be good to know where the information came from.
