Apparently it violated their air space and ignored repeated warnings.

There was a video circulating a while ago showing shows with/against who and that it was a proxy war between US and Russia. BUT now we would back Russia against a NATO member, that we are part of? Confused! Would love if someone could find the video again, please!

Also, Putin has just lifted restrictions on nuclear export ban to Islamic Republic despite it not officially ending until 2016? Can someone explain that bit please?

SoDiana · 24/11/2015 15:17

A poster on another thread posted a link to a video explaining stuff.
If I recall correctly (unlikely), Saudi are funding isil. Why is the West still in cahoots with them?
Why not bomb them?

'Also, Putin has just lifted restrictions on nuclear export ban to Islamic Republic despite it not officially ending until 2016? Can someone explain that bit please?'

As far as I understand it, under the recent agreement made by the US, France, Britain, Russia etc with Iran, Iran has to get rid of its enriched uranium and Russia is buying some of it and is exporting some equipment to Iran in order to enrich it.

I don't understand all the politics and meaning behind all this but my anxiety levels are sky rocketing, I'm keeping a panic attack at bay but I don't think Ill be sleeping much for a while.
I have that tight feeling in my chest and the pit of my stomach.

Ohdeargawd · 24/11/2015 15:24

Claig, do you work for the MOD? ;-)

American conspiracy site infowars.com has linked to a Sunday Express article

"Turkey threatens Russia over bid to OBLITERATE sick Islamic State terrorists

RUSSIA and Turkey are in deadlock after the latter threatened Moscow with “serious consequences” if it continues its bomb assault on Syria.

Officials in the capital Ankara warned Russia to “immediately end its operation” after war planes hit Syrian ground “very close” to the Turkish border.

Turkey sees the Turkmen population that inhabits villages near the border as natural allies in the struggle against President Assad’s brutal regime."

No, I am just interested in world events and conspiracy theories. I like to try and understand what is really going on rather than what the mainstream media tells us is going on.

Putin has said that Turkey has "backstabbed" Russia.

Whatever happens, relations are going to be difficult to patch up.

claig · 24/11/2015 15:45

Patrick Henningsen is a good independent analyst. He says this is probably the biggest crisis for NATO since its founding in 1949.

He says that this may cause a split in NATO as France and Germany are sympathetic to Russia. I don't think that will happen. I doubt Turkey could have done this without this being agreed policy of some sort.

SoDiana · 24/11/2015 15:52

Claig. There were never any 'relations' between Russia and the West.
Putin is your classic psychopath.

Everyone with half a brain cell can see this.

You cannot either negotiate nor form alliances with a psychopath.

Media shit is just that. Media shit to try to convince us that everything is ok.

Putins mother must have been some blinded idiot.

PigletJohn · 24/11/2015 15:58

Angela understands Russia and Putin better than any other leader, and, having started out cordially, she feels he has repeatedly lied to her, especially over Ukraine.

IKnowIAmButWhatAreYou · 24/11/2015 16:00

There were never any 'relations' between Russia and the West.

Absolute Bollocks!!

There have been and there will be again - they get strained sometimes, but Europe has to keep relations going with Russia as the penalties for not doing so are quite severe....

SoDiana · 24/11/2015 16:04

No. There has been acting. No corroboration though. Only putin tittering to himself how gullible we are.

claig · 24/11/2015 16:16

SoDiana, I think we are being prepared for war. That is why Putin has been described as being like Hitler. Tony Blair once recommended Assad for a knighthood, now he is public enemy number one.

War drums are being beaten and the public is being softened up for war as Putin, his athletes, his doping, the world cup and just about everything else about Russia is being demonised as Russia is being excluded from the club of friendly nations and the public are being acclimatised to what a rotter he is. Even the downing of the Russian passenger jet made no difference.

TendonQueen · 24/11/2015 16:22

This would be a really good time for the companies who are supposedly sitting on workable alternative energy sources to bring them out into the open..

claig · 24/11/2015 16:28

This comes just as Hollande is in America to meet Obama. It has put a spanner in France's works to try and achieve some agreement with Russia as Hollande is scheduled to meet Putin on Thursday.

"French president Francois Hollande heads to the White House on Tuesday, calling for urgency in the war against Islamic State but also attempting to smooth ruffled feathers over his next diplomatic stop.

Hollande’s decision to follow talks with Barack Obama with a trip to Moscow two days later to meet Russian president Vladimir Putin is not likely to go down well with his American hosts.

“There is dissatisfaction on the US side about the optics of going from the US to see Putin,” a source in Washington said. “If Russia is serious about this effort, they should really be coming to the coalition.”

IKnowIAmButWhatAreYou · 24/11/2015 16:29

Apologies SoDiana - I took that as no relations in general, rather than just with regards to this!!

Bollocks retracted! Grin

DrasticAction · 24/11/2015 16:41

his athletes, his doping, the world cup and just about everything else about Russia is being demonised

hardly. its not cricket to all the doping stuff but frankly I am far more concerned about ISIS and radical islam right now. And Russia but the sports stuff doesnt bother me.

Peppaismyhomegirl · 24/11/2015 16:43

Should we be scared? I feel scared?

claig · 24/11/2015 16:44

Latest reports from Turkey are that both pilots are still alive and Turkey is trying to get them released.

This has massive implications for Turkish-Russian relations. Amazing that they shot the plane down knowing what the implications would be.

RainbowBodyDouble · 24/11/2015 16:50

Was the plane in range of population?

My best guess at an explanation would be Turkey concerned about a hijacked plane.

They must have something ready, you don't shoot down an ally without having a bulletproof reason.
especially when it's a Russian mig

FreeWorker1 · 24/11/2015 16:57

Russia supplies 57% of Turkey's natural gas.

Russia has just quietly signed a large natural gas pipeline deal with Germany. The Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder sits on the Board of Nordsteam AG a comany that owns the existing pipeline that transits gas from Russia to Germany.

I think Germany are closer to Russia than Turkey are right now and Putin might well shut off the Turkish gas supply in the middle of winter as a first move to destabilise Erdogan.

Meanwhile the US has distanced itself from the shooting down incident saying it is a Russia - Turkey issue.
