26 year old occupational therapist student missing in Glasgow.
Mumsnetters Please keep your eyes and ears open - you might find something beneficial to her being found.

Many people feel like you do Aye, completely lovely and reasonable to try and help this way.
Why such a caring and selfless gesture is being questioned and tainted is beyond me.
Thanks to all who donated.

"Is the man going to court over her murder the one she left the night club and had sex with? Or is it someone different"

I don't think that info has been officially released yet, but nothing has come out to suggest otherwise (age/sex matches and there's no sign that he's no longer helping police with their enquiries).

And this is all happening under the Scottish legal system, which has different terms and definitions for the stages leading up to court appearances and onwards.

AldiQ7 · 16/04/2015 18:36

Jesus Christ, a woman has been murdered and some of you lot are arguing like kids on this thread.

Pathetic, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Schoolaroundthecorner · 16/04/2015 18:37

I really do regret every bringing the collection up. I was the first to mention it but I didn't post a link. I'm not trying to tell anyone what they can or can't post but please maybe consider taking the debate to a more general post on the issue and dropping the discussion of it here? It has really taken over the thread and taken it in a not very good direction. It'd be better I think to return to what the thread was which was mostly a place for people to express their shock and sadness and discuss what happened.

JanineStHubbins · 16/04/2015 18:38

Agree Zing. The crassness of some posters questioning the fund set up to assist this poor woman's family in their awful, brutal bereavement is really horrible to read.

God forbid that friends and neighbours would try and help. The concept of meitheal is still alive in Ireland, thankfully.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 16/04/2015 18:38

School

you did nothing wrong

Please don't be sorry School, I went hunting for the page based on your post and it was quite hard to find as the news articles weren't actually linking to it. It took me about 10 minutes to find it, nobody will have accidentally donated who didn't want to based on you mentioning it. Thanks

Schoolaroundthecorner · 16/04/2015 18:43

I just feel like its really thrown the thread off on a bad path Zing. I thought it was a nice gesture made by her friends so I mentioned it but I should have guessed it would be contentious. I feel guilty it's derailed the thread and I'd hate to think of anyone who knew her reading some of the more recent posts.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 16/04/2015 18:44

School I sent you a PM.
you did the right thing. not your fault for what happened afterwards

expatinscotland · 16/04/2015 18:47

Don't be sorry, School. The BBC mentioned there was a fundraising site on the news just now. You did the right thing. Poor lass. Poor family.

MrsPeabody · 16/04/2015 18:47

Please don't regret mentioning the fund. I wouldn't have known about it otherwise. Some stories grab your heart strings. I don't care what the money is used for. Nothing will make their life easier, but if it can be made more comfortable and less worrisome then it can't be a bad thing.

mkz10 · 16/04/2015 19:07

School, you have nothing to worry about by mentioning the fund, all the media are reporting about it now due to the massive response that it has received. You didn't do anything wrong.

feckthemall · 16/04/2015 19:15

School it was myself who posted the link to the fundraiser and I make no apologies for it.

Schoolaroundthecorner · 16/04/2015 19:22

Thanks everyone. Hopefully the thread can get back on track now and the debate, if there has to be one, could move somewhere else. Just read the statement issued by Karen's parents. Really just heart breaking.

SirVixofVixHall · 16/04/2015 20:35

I wouldn't have known about the fund if I hadn't seen it mentioned here, so I am glad that someone posted the info and the link, as I did want to give a donation. I did that in hope that the fact that others care enough to donate is a comfort to that poor family in the future, and hopefully the sum they eventually get will help with all the costs they now have, and perhaps allow them to not have to work for a while. I had a friend murdered many years ago, she was 19. I really feel for the family of Karen.

He's been named by several of the papers but not officially, although I did read somewhere he was to appear in court tomorrow so I assume it will be official at that time?

squoosh · 16/04/2015 23:37

He's due to appear in court tomorrow morning and they will then make a decision whether to charge him or not. Will be a few months before a trial takes place though.

MrsBanana · 16/04/2015 23:42

RIP Karen
Strength and support to her parents, brothers and friends.
I hope the police get the person responsible for this heartbreaking, terrible, horrifying crime.
Makes me weep form hen prod we live in.

mrsmeerkat · 17/04/2015 13:10

I just heard on sky news that his plea will be given today. Also, in Scotland the trial has to take place in 100 and something days. Cannot remember exactly.

123upthere · 17/04/2015 13:26

101 days

123upthere · 17/04/2015 13:27

I meant 110 days sorry

mkz10 · 17/04/2015 13:40

The Irish times are reporting

"According to one source, her friends thought that it was so out of character for Ms Buckley that they feared her drink had been spiked. It is understood the glass she was drinking from has been recovered by police."

A bit strange that they could recover the specific glass from a nightclub, unless her friends brought it home with them, to keep in case they needed it.

noddyholder · 17/04/2015 13:58

Such a tragic case and her poor mum looks absolutely destroyed by this :(
