Wow, a Glasgow journalist has just tweeted the following

" Karen Buckley killer Alex Pacteau previously stood trial for attempted rape, STV can reveal."

AyeAmarok · 11/08/2015 14:44

Oh FFS. He had history? Sad

More details now on BBC, he only drove his car to Kelvin Way apparently (that's only about 500m from the nightclub) and that is where he killed her.

Which means the whole story of her going back to his, etc (as he initially told the police) was completely made up.

And the police helpfully went and released that, meaning a shed-load of the hard-of-thinking were saying "well, she shouldn't have gone back and had sex with a stranger" as if that somehow meant she deserved it. Adding to the trauma for her very Catholic parents.

Oh Flipping heck I am so angry about this whole thing.

ML29 · 11/08/2015 14:45

Here is the link, shocking.

One his comments at the trial " I believe rape is the lowest of the low. I’d rather be charged with murder than attempted rape."

Guess the police knew the minute he was identified that they had their man, and the whole 'consensual sex' thing was a ploy to make him feel he was off the hook.

Just wish they had never said or published that comment.

He was acquitted by a majority verdict in the attempted rape case.

When you read what happened to that poor girl, he lied through his teeth when giving evidence, claimed she assaulted him. He was found hiding behind a car and fixing his belt which he said had come undone when he was scuffling with her after she attacked him. Claimed he was a homosexual.

The guy should never have been on streets, he should have been locked up.

I bet those jurors are having a few sleepless nights now. I would never forgive myself if I realised later that I had fallen for pervert and conman's protestations of innocence.

RIP Karen Buckley

ML29 I've just read the STV link. How the actual fuck was he found not guilty of that? Angry

Oh yes, because women who have a sex act forced on them in an alleyway by a stranger and who scream for help secretly wanted it all along.

I despair at society, I really do.

Aye was it not another guys flat she had gone to? and he was ruled out? I think thats the confusion she lef tthe nightclub and went to a strnagers house , slept with him and was then somehow lured by this guy to his car?

AyeAmarok · 11/08/2015 15:08

No Helen He walked her from the nightclub to his car, killed her in his car, then took her body back to his flat while he worked out how to dispose of her.

The link I've posted from the BBC has been updated since with further details.

ML29 · 11/08/2015 15:09

AyeAmarok, I know I can't believe, she was not believed ! How the fuck can that happen.

Is there double jeopardy in Scotland, can he be tried again for that rape, for no other reason than for that poor victim to be vindicated, imagine her life since that happened.

Although, unfortunately, poor Karen's murder has shown what a perverted bastard he is, and everyone now knows that girl was telling the truth.

I just feel doubly sick now, poor Karen and that poor girl.

ML29 · 11/08/2015 15:13

No Helen, she walked from the club to the car with him ! no one knows what he said to convince her to go with him.

Intiially he lied and said that she had gone back to his apartment and had consensual sex with him and then left at 4am, which was the last time he saw her.

Unfortunately the police reported this publicly, although they clearly did not believe him. I guess they did it in the hope he would lead them to her body, or maybe they hoped she was still alive and being kept a prisoner somewhere, but I think that was a terrible misjudgement on their part.

The fact is, he murdered her in the car on the street, they estimated she was dead within 20 minutes of being seen on CCTV outside the club.

AyeAmarok · 11/08/2015 15:20

I am so angry. Really and truly angry. And I really can't be because I'm sitting in work trying to keep a lid on it.

This whole thing is such a tragic example of how much society and the law treats violence against women, and protects the men who perpetrate it.

This poor woman's young life was taken. And for what?

ML29 · 11/08/2015 15:26

Part of her fathers statement after court today is ripping my heart out, I cannot even begin to comprehend the level of their pain.

Mr Buckley said the family are haunted by her final moments.

He said: "Our hearts are broken at the thought of Karen’s final moments on this world. The thought of her being alone, frightened and struggling for her life haunts us.

"The panic and fear she experienced as she fought for her very survival, but she had no chance against that coward.

"The last face she saw and the last voice she heard was of that cold blooded cowardly murderer, who calmly set about trying to dispose of her body so she would never be found.

"Only for the swift action of the police and the people of Glasgow we were able to find Karen and bring her home and give her a dignified burial.

"Not only did he rob Karen of her precious life and future but he robbed us of our beautiful daughter/sister. He also robbed us of Karen in death as we never got to see her, hold her or kiss her good bye."

"All Karen was doing was making her way home when she was randomly targeted and murdered by a cowardly vicious criminal. No words of ours can do justice to our feelings towards him. He is truly evil and we hope that he will spend the rest of his life behind bars."

BBC says "mandatory life sentence" but I'm not sure what that actually means in practice.

Sad

(the sad face seems such a trivial emoticon here, sorry if it comes across as flippant)

Hopefully someone will torture him to death in jail.

ML29 · 11/08/2015 15:37

OMG, I hope he never sees the light of day again. Hopefully he will piss off enough people in prison and be living in fear inside for the rest of his miserable life. With a few beatings here and there.

great minds AyeAmarok.

I was devastated when I read about the court proceedings this morning, but the previous rape acquittal has taken it to a different level.

I remember feeling the same when that lovely Irish girl in Australia was murdered and it turned out the murderer had already committed something like 16 rapes previously and was fucking released from prison.

You are so right AA, when will society take sexual assault seriously, and lock up a person who even attempts to sexually assault anyone. They always keep doing it, destroying more and more lives.

Fuckers.

redgoat · 11/08/2015 15:44

Life is life but they can be released on licence after 15 years. There's no way he'll be out in 7.

My thoughts are with his victims and their families. Karen's family have been so dignified throughout.
