I dont even watch the programme now ex has left BUT FFS - we're all adults
driving at 300 mniles per hour is not normal & bound to have calculated risks

I have signed & sent link to friends

wannaBe1974 · 26/09/2006 15:15

i won't be signing it because I think it's a load of rubbish. I do think that postponing the programme because of the accident is a knee jerk reaction, however I think the idea of having a petition to save a tv programme is madness.

I agree that boy racers aren't going to necessarily be influenced by what they see on top gear, but I do think that the bmw/ferrari drivers will look at certain cars being shown on there and think that buying such a car is a good idea because it can go at 150 miles per hour. And you don't have to be a joyrider to be a prick in a fancy car exceeding the speed limit. Personally I don't think that cars should be able to go over 70 miles per hour, we have a speed limit so what is the point of having a car that can do 150? absolutely none what so ever.

Piffle · 26/09/2006 15:35

wannabe bbc shelved top gear several years ago, it was only brought back by popular demand
It is a very entertaining programme - my ds and dp and I would sorely miss it.
People had a petition to FREE DEIDRE FFS on a fictional SHOW

StrawberryMoon · 26/09/2006 15:46

signed with note on safety!

CheesyFeet · 26/09/2006 16:19

I would miss it if it went. It makes me larf, which most programmes these days don't.

I don't think it was postponed because of the accident per se, it was postponed out of respect for Richard and his family when no-one was sure how he was. This has happened before when TV people have died or been seriously ill.

I'm not sure about signing the petition. Probably won't make a blind bit of difference either way.

FluffyCharlotteCorday · 26/09/2006 16:24

I don't feel strongly enough about it to feel motivated to sign it. I like the prog but don't care if it goes. Like Desperate Housewives.

I don't think it's responsible for joyriders, but it is part of a culture which excuses selfish and aggressive driving while denigrating careful driving as only suitable for school run mothers and pensioners.

Having said that, I like it. But Clarkson got made over by Trinny and Suzanna and they did a really good job on him and then he reverted back to his old ways. I want them to sort him out again.

pebblemum · 27/09/2006 22:56

I have signed it

I dont drive and if im honest cars dont really interest me that much but i always have time to watch Top Gear. I would much rather have my license fee spent on programmes like that rather than crappy reality ones. why cant they ban them surely some of them must be more hazaardous for our health than Top Gear

eldestgirl · 29/09/2006 06:57

Signed. The programme where they made their own People Mover and drove it through a Safari Park had me crying with laughter.

Pfer · 29/09/2006 08:13

All signed here too.

GeorginaA · 29/09/2006 08:17

Signed.

Oh yes, people might copy the show...

... because everyone has access to a 300mph jet car and a private airfield. OR ... horrors... they might try to play caravan conkers with the two spare cranes they have knocking around...

quanglewangle · 29/09/2006 09:04

I am a TG convert so have signed it.

Insult to injury if he had no job to come back to.

EmmyLou · 29/09/2006 09:16

Will sign, if only because i have never seen my 11 year old daughter laugh so much as when they showed the film about the caravaning 'holiday'

luciemule · 29/09/2006 09:25

Top Gear does not glamourise speed - in fact J Clarkson cannot stand irresponsible drivers and postively encourages safe driving. Yes, they do focus on speed occassionally but that is within certain constraints - obviously the majority of the population wouldn't attempt landspeed records up the M5! Safety is always a priority and would suggest the people who are saying it should be axed probably haven't watched it enough to understand that Top Gear is not purely about speed and actally endorses safe driving. ps - I am a girl with no points on my licence and who never (and I mean never) drives above the stated speed limit. I also watch Top Gear every week with my car-mad husband.
