definitely not signed, sorry! I don't think it exactly helps responsible driving for some -young male drviers for instance. Know I sound like a spoil-sport but heard about the case of the young doc killed by a speeding (banned) young driver??

charliecat · 24/09/2006 12:20

I dont think stopping showing Top gear will make people drive sensibly.

RanToTheHills · 24/09/2006 12:25

might help for some though. Gullible young men watching as dangerous driving is glamourised.

binker · 24/09/2006 12:30

agree with charliecat

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 24/09/2006 12:32

if people are really stupid enough to be "copying" top gear, then they shouldnt have a license to start with.

lanismum · 24/09/2006 12:35

signed. i doubt most of the tossers responsible for hit and runs/dangerous/drink driving are top gear fans.

lanismum · 24/09/2006 12:36

iv never heard of anyone firing cars from a catapult just because they watched top gear

Saturn74 · 24/09/2006 12:37

All signed it here.

I don't believe that dangerous drivers will suddenly become safe drivers if they can no longer watch a television programme.

I am against censorship of this nature.

Adults should be held accountable for their own actions.

SherlockLGJ · 24/09/2006 12:43

Having watched Top Gear last week, I took my perfectly serviceable family car and ripped the insides out and turned into a mobile living room.

The hilarious one where Richard Hammond and James May were driving a car kitted out to look an Englsih country cottage, complete with wood burning stove. 0- 60 in five minutes IIRC.

Top Gear is not responsible for boy racers.

Saturn74 · 24/09/2006 13:04

bump

DumbledoresGirl · 24/09/2006 13:09

The last episode of TG that was watched in my family had my dh and my 2 eldest sons wetting themselves with laughter. I can honestly say I have never heard my dh and sons laughing so strongly together at one thing (I was in another room busily Mumsnetting so I have no idea what they were laughing at!) and it did my heart good to hear them sharing such a warm moment. I think it would be ridiculous to cut TG. Maybe it does feed an interest in high performance cars, but I can assure you all that some men (dh) and boys (ds1 and ds2) are naturally interested in these things anyway and would still be motorheads with or without TG.

dejags · 24/09/2006 13:11

Signed.

Funny
Witty
Great characters

I can't imagine any mature adult would take part in "caravan conkers" - we all know that aren't racing drivers and that it's TV after all.

I find this thread insensitive & distasteful
oh alright - just kidding

Surely Top Gear doesn't need saving- what have I missed? I know Jeremy C gets on my tits but the world needs easy targets.

LOL sherlockLGJ ..ever watched Pimp My Ride on VH1?

tribpot · 24/09/2006 13:21

Signed.

codwiggle · 24/09/2006 13:22

i dont giev a toss

Weatherwax · 24/09/2006 13:30

My dd watches brainiac and they blow up caravans every time. I don't expect her to grow up to do the same. I don't expect children who watch top gear to grow up to be ignorant unfeeling speeding drivers.

I agree with Humphrey "Adults should be held accountable for their own actions.". I do wish JC would stop his races against planes and trains though, or factor in to the route a saftey break or two.

Pann · 24/09/2006 13:31

Not signed.

TG DOES glamourise stupid driving, and alot of viewers will be the boy-racers who will wish to emulate their 'heroes' antics, except behind the wheel of their Astra in 30mph zone, rather than a race ring or airstrip..the juvenile ref. to how fast their toys go and how much torque is produced...has an effect..otherwise they wouldn't be producing the show.

Spending a part of my licence fee to create a programme showing Surrey Man in a Ferrari/Beemer/whatever isn't a good thing.

Nothing to do with the recent accident.

definately signed, and oh has too...

top gear does NOT make eejits in fast cars try to kill themselves and others, the eejits can do that all by themselves...

i think it is a lads tv magazine type programme, with some hilarious articles - the car/boat thing and caravan episodes to name but a few.
my oh and 7 year old son love it, and i would be gutted if it was pulled off air...
