Sorry, lost the end of the thread there!

Thread 5

Human Rights Watch report on the IDF deliberately targeting civilians. It is such a bad idea to give so much power to young conscripts, it really is.

Immaterial of its source, the video still shows Hamas spokesman Mushir Al-Masri making it clear that Hamas has no intention in making peace with Israel in any shape or form.

Backinthering · 17/08/2014 16:52

Gaza has been of huge media interest over the last 6 weeks, Londongirl. I'm very surprised that non of the large, credible news organisations have picked up on this story despite covering the ceasefire extensively.

Backinthering · 17/08/2014 16:53

And I'm very sorry for this poor couple, who will have a bunch of baying racists hounding them on their wedding day.
Supreme court has refused to block the protesters, as well.

Backinthering · 17/08/2014 16:58

AndHarry I agree about the conscripts. Far too young, possibly brought up to be not at all well-disposed towards Palestinians, and then let loose with guns. I've described my personal reasons for hating conscription of young people for active armed service - it's a shit trick.
It's not just in the active conflict of Gaza, people are regularly humiliated, hurt and worse at checkpoints. It's not right having ordinary people at the mercy of armed teenagers like that.
I've also mentioned before that there's a steady stream of deaths in the West Bank at the moment, due to the IDF being far too quick to take potshots with live ammo.

Yruapita · 17/08/2014 17:33

andharry, i agree that was unnecessary.

Guardian reporting about a palestinian man to wed a jewish woman and now protestors will picket their wedding in the hope that the jewish woman changes her mind. The group that is calling for the protest gets half its funding from the state and tries to strengthen the apartheid state movement by calling on jews not to mix with Arabs on the beach and asks jewish landlords not to rent to Arabs. Link

londongirl why does Israel have a greater right to peace, land, right to return and existence than the Palestinians?
So your excuse in Gaza is Hamas. What's your excuse for the apartheid treatment of Arabs in Israel? Your government pays to fund apartheid campaigns.

Yruapita · 17/08/2014 17:36

X-post with backinthering!

alemci · 17/08/2014 17:59

very simplistic but the Jewish people only have Israel, they have been badly treated when living in other countries e.g. Russia, Germanty and they were expelled from Israel a long time ago.

the Palestinians are surrounded by Islamic countries who are sympathetic and probably do not like the Jews. I know there are Palestinian christians as well and it is complicated.

LondonGirl33 · 17/08/2014 20:11

Israel, the only democracy and tolerant society in the Middle East, is surrounded by Muslim states that have sworn to destroy it and have conducted a genocidal propaganda campaign against the Jews, promising to “finish the job that Hitler started.” A global wave of Jew-hatred, fomented by Muslim propaganda and left-wing anti-Semitism, has spread through Europe and the United Nations and made Israel a pariah nation.

LondonGirl33 · 17/08/2014 20:18

Sorry Yruapita - MY government? Is this the British government you're referring to? Because if it is, is it not your government too?

Backinthering · 17/08/2014 20:19

LondonGirl seriously do you have any credible sources at all to back up your points?
Because that website is just paranoid nonsense.

LondonGirl33 · 17/08/2014 20:20

Is that because it doesn't support your view?

QnBoudi · 17/08/2014 20:21

The English only have a small little island. And we've been so badly treated, for example, just look what the Romans did to us, not to mention the Danes and the Jutes and the Anglo-Saxons.

The English are surrounded by Catholic countries who are sympathetic and probably don't like the Anglicans. I know there are German Moslems as well and it is complicated.

Are you seeing the problems with this tripe yet, alemci???

LondonGirl33 · 17/08/2014 20:24

Looks like MY government also wants to stop the threat of Islam fundamentalists creating terrorist states...

QnBoudi · 17/08/2014 20:24

Londongirl, unreliable sources don't support any view.

Backinthering · 17/08/2014 20:25

No LondonGirl it's because it's obvious nonsense.
I make a point of linking to acknowledged credible mainstream news sources - the Guardian, Al Jazeera, Haaretz etc. I could also link to a bunch of stuff saying pretty much anything - but I don't, as it's not credible.
Hell, I've even linked to the Daily Mail, before I get accused of left-wing bias.

Backinthering · 17/08/2014 20:27

LondonGirl what does your link have to do with the Israel/Gaza conflict? That is not taking place in Iraq. Or are you conflating?

halfdrunkcoffee · 17/08/2014 20:57

QnBoudi - "The English only have a small little island." Erm, I think there might be some Scottish and Welsh people sharing it too. And there used to be a huge British Empire. Our neighbours are friendly and recognise our existence.

Anyway, England is hardly analogous with the situation of the Jews. Where are the centuries of the persecution of the English in their diaspora, the anti-English pogroms, the wiping out of much of the English population in a Holocaust? I am not saying that past persecution gives Israel an excuse to behave as it does, but it is what gave birth to the Zionist movement to create a Jewish homeland.

alemci · 17/08/2014 21:43

onboudi that is rude. the English haven't been persecuted in the same way that the Jews have been over the centuries. quite a different scenario.

MajesticWhine · 17/08/2014 21:55

alemci, unfortunately, the Palestinians are surrounded by Islamic countries who are not particularly sympathetic - eg Jordan and Lebanon who have recently turned away Palestinian refugees, and Egypt who together with Israel are responsible for the blockade of Gaza.

alemci · 17/08/2014 21:58

yes I see majestic, it is very complex.

Yruapita · 17/08/2014 22:00

Londongirl. All you have done is demonised the Palestinians, the arabs. Your Golda Meir quote was absolutely gross. You obviously feel it is acceptable to spout out racist shit in this day and age too. Israeli government has started churning out this islamophobia with vigour. I can see you also like to delve in Golda Meir's racism and share Nutty Yahu's vision of an apartheid state. Very palatable indeed!

Yruapita · 17/08/2014 22:07

Alemci, putting it very simply, why, when they were treated so badly did the Israeli state treat the people who lived there so badly?

Why did the Palestinians have to pay for Europe's sins? Would you be ok with someone kicking you out of your home and you being told to go live with those sympathetic to your plight?

Very complex indeed.

winkywinkola · 17/08/2014 22:24

We also need to question why Egypt's border to Gaza is closed?

Any particular reason?

Hamas are terrorists not wanted anywhere

runes · 17/08/2014 23:24

winky Some would say Israel are a terrorist state given their apparent disregard for international law. There hasn't even been an agreed definition for what constitutes terrorism in international law and whilst most of the west consider Hamas a terrorist organisation, many other countries do not. You'll need a better line than 'but they're terrorists' to justify support for the actions of the Israeli government.
