[Warning added by MNHQ: please note that the content of the link given here is very distressing]

Rosdeep Adekoya has pleaded guilty to Culpable Homicide of her son Mikaeel in January of this year.

OP posts:

I think that report is rather graphic actually. I tire of Trigger warnings and Sensitive over much more trivial things but a warning of some kind in the OP would have been appropriate in this case.

I do understand this is News, but still.

Poor wee lad.

TurboWithAKick · 25/07/2014 12:13

thecat it hit a nerve with me as I also have 5dc.

ChaChaChaChanges · 25/07/2014 12:13

I can only speak for myself, but I 'expected' to read that the mother was fundamentally loving, pushed to the end of her tether by some external factor, snapped, panicked and then her actions. Particularly as she was not charged with murder.

What I didn't expect was a sustained assault over 4 days because the poor child was vomiting from food poisoning.

I steered clear of the Baby P coverage because I knew it would upset me.

That poor little boy Shock Sad

JakeBullet · 25/07/2014 12:16

It's known among child protection people that occasionally the abuse will affect just one child in a family.

I cannot feel sorry for her apart from some sympathy that she struggled with her feelings towards him. She was the adult though and instead if doing internet searches she should clearly have been asking for help...especially as it seems she was physically very abusive to him in his short life,

ChaChaChaChanges · 25/07/2014 12:18

Didn't Daniel Pelka's parents have an older child who was treated normally?

NickNacks · 25/07/2014 12:19

Btw I'm not saying it's not horrific what happened to the poor boy but I wasn't surprised or unexpectedly bit by the details. I knew what I was about to read iyswim.

LIZS · 25/07/2014 12:26

poor little mite :(

AlleyCat11 · 25/07/2014 12:37

Saying a prayer for little Mikaeel

Vevvie · 25/07/2014 12:43

Poor little boy. How frightened he must have felt.

scottishmummy · 25/07/2014 12:46

A child died suffering horrific physical abuse, thats so dreadful
I hope the siblings are supported, comforted and given professional help

MinionDave · 25/07/2014 12:48

Utterly horrific, and very close to home for me, I drive past near where his body was found nearly every day Sad

Reading the details, there are no words. I do not feel sorry for her, I only feel sorry for the poor wee boy and his siblings.

mumatron · 25/07/2014 12:48

i normally eye roll at trigger warnings but i think thatlink does need one. i did not expect to read those details.

i had to stop reading as i am at my desk in work in tears.

all of sympathies go to the boy and her other children. I can only feel loathing for the mother. i think it is pretty disgusting that she wont be tried for murder. this isnt someone that snapped and hit out at a small child. it was a sustained and vicious attack on a tiny sick child.

a single father in the same situation would get zero sympathy from anyone.

scottishmummy · 25/07/2014 12:49

The local authority will participate in serious case review

MorphineDreams · 25/07/2014 12:49

I wonder if she ever came on here.

Vevvie · 25/07/2014 12:50

He hadn't been back in the family home for that long, from what was reported previously. Why did she have him back if she resented him so much, should have left him where he was. His siblings must have been aware of what she was doing to him, poor kids. It is sickening reading, but it doesn't affect us as much as it affected that poor little boy and his brothers and sisters.

DHandhisgrossfoot · 25/07/2014 12:50

A grown woman beating a small, sick child over and over, for days. Beating him while he vomited and slowly died from his injuries... and some of you feel sorry for her? Jesus fucking Christ.

I sincerely hope she gets what she deserves during the remainder of her life.

Her poor remaining children as well. I feel so sorry for them.

wrapsuperstar · 25/07/2014 12:52

That article was beyond fucking haunting.

I too 'hoped' that this would have turned out to be a tragic accident, or at the very least something far less unspeakable than what transpired.

Having had severe postnatal depression I am usually the first to try and express a bit of empathy and understanding for situations where an isolated, unhappy parent makes a terrible mistake. This wasn't one. It was a brutal crime and in my eyes nothing less than murder.

Jesus Christ. He was three, and he was unwell. There aren't any words.

IsabelleAdjani · 25/07/2014 12:52

I was reading this while I ate my lunch and made me feel physically sick. I didn't read any Baby P / Daniel Pelka coverage as I knew it would upset me too much and wish I hadn't read this. Totally breaks my heart. I have NO sympathy whatsoever for the mother- there is not excuse for assaulting him until she killed him (for being sick) over the course of 4 days. Also makes me wonder what is wrong with our society that this keeps happening over and over again?

TheXxed · 25/07/2014 12:53

I wish she could have sought help, she knew she had a problem.

IceRocket · 25/07/2014 12:53

I've just read this, I can't feel anything for her but hate. She could have found help. She didn't do it in a moment of madness she abused him several times. She deserves everything she gets

Cocolepew · 25/07/2014 12:53

I have no sympathy for her.
Poor, poor boy.

TheXxed · 25/07/2014 12:55

I don't feel sorry for her, I wish she sought help because Mikaeel would still be alive. Is that hard to understand.

rootypig · 25/07/2014 12:56

Any Scottish lawyers about?

This from the Guardian:
Advocate depute Alex Prentice told the court: "The basis for the plea tendered being accepted is that the crown accepts that the accused had no intention to kill Mikaeel and that the assault perpetrated upon him, although severe, fell short if of the wicked recklessness required for murder."

I would appreciate an explanation. In English law the charge would surely have been murder, she certainly intended to inflict GBH.

UrsulaBuffay · 25/07/2014 12:58

Three years old, just a baby. Poor poor boy
