But as DeVere said earlier, it's not about what she's entitled too, it's what the children need.
She'll not get to have them again but they may well want to see her and have some sort of contact.

CheerfulYank · 25/07/2014 18:56

I just don't...I have seen the most docile, timid dogs turn into snarling beasts if they didn't like the way you looked at their pups.

I grew up in an area that was known for bears, and everyone knew from the time they were very young that a mother bear with cubs would rip you apart to protect them.

And here people are, without half the parenting instincts of animals. I see it in the news so often now. I can't understand it.

gertiegusset · 25/07/2014 19:03

I totally agree with you CY, I can't understand it either, the children's needs will come first though and they can decide when they are older whether they want anything to do with her, until then it will probably be occasional letters, if they want that and if their carers think it's in their best interests.

expatinscotland · 25/07/2014 19:14

We lived in the neighbourhood where that family lived. A dear friend still does, he and his family are very involved in the community and spent a lot of their time off from work and school to search.

It's so sad it turned out like this.

I hope the surviving children get the help they need.

HopefulHamster · 25/07/2014 19:38

My husband rang me in tears today after reading this story. Our son has just turned four. Can't imagine being angry at him for being sick.

It's so so tragic. Needless.

Tiredemma · 25/07/2014 19:46

She isn't mentally ill, she shouldn't take up a valuable secure hospital bed- save that for someone who genuinely needs it.

She should rot somewhere in a cell. What an evil woman.

scottishmummy · 25/07/2014 20:02

Maximum tariff is life, but Highly unlikely she'll get life for culpable homicide

MorphineDreams · 25/07/2014 21:02

Is life actually meaning life now, as they proposed or still a petty sentence?

Nicknacky · 25/07/2014 21:16

Life does not necessarily mean a entire sentence served in prison but a minimum period of time as decided by the trial judge. Thereafter considered for release on life licence.

scottishmummy · 25/07/2014 21:21

Scotland has no whole life tariff, unlike England and wales
In England the home secretary imposes WLT

QueenFuri · 25/07/2014 21:23

She should be put away for a long time. That poor little boy I have a 4 year old son and he is so loving, I don't understand how someone could do that. She's a vile human being who knew exactly what she was doing. She really doesn't deserve to be called a mother.

handcream · 25/07/2014 21:29

She is absolute scum. For those you are feeling sorry for her or saying she should have been more supported...

What if she had done this to your child?

scottishmummy · 25/07/2014 21:32

The measure of a liberal society is how it deals with dysfunction and criminality
Her crime is heinous,it really is.she will be jailed

ArsenicFaceCream · 25/07/2014 21:39

More support might have prevented this handcream, THAT is why people are wishing she had got more support, so that the boy could have been saved.

handcream · 25/07/2014 21:40

She was an evil women who lied and cheated the system. I hope she rots

TurboWithAKick · 25/07/2014 21:41

Support with what tho?

She couldn't love him.... You can't make someone love a child

ArsenicFaceCream · 25/07/2014 21:44

Therapeutic interventions for an absence of attachment are available. And they work.

He was in care twice in his short life. I think it is a shame nothing was picked up on.

Floralnomad · 25/07/2014 21:45

Why on earth did she have them back after they were taken into care for that year ,if she didn't love him surely that was her escape clause . She is evil ,I hope eventually she gets what she deserves.

TurboWithAKick · 25/07/2014 21:46

Didn't know that arsenic

Her googling didn't show it's availability I'm guessing

handcream · 25/07/2014 21:47

Because no one saw the signs, or saw them and gave her yet another chance...

scottishmummy · 25/07/2014 21:52

There will be a serious case review, police and local authority and nhs
It'll do a timeline,look at triggers,review interventions

handcream · 25/07/2014 21:54

And they will say lessons will be learnt, there will be lots of hand wringing.

ArsenicFaceCream · 25/07/2014 21:55

Even if all else had failed and ultimately the support she received was post-adoption counselling following his removal, that still would have been a far far better outcome than this for all involved.

Turbo Yahoo answers (or whatever) was never going to be the best place for that kind of enquiry. Tragic that she couldn't approach her GP or one of the family's SWs.
