here is Part 5 but we are ready (nearly) for a new one.

OP posts:
WildThong · 05/05/2014 11:26

But iamthat she had gone up to the landing to tell him to hurry, he was in the bedroom suite, she was in the tiled landing.

PD6966 · 05/05/2014 11:29

*Didn't she say Col Van Rensberg took her and her father to see OP one evening after the bail hearing
Her father said he's only seen him at the memorial

Or not?*

My thoughts too Ronald

Other thought re not remembering whether she saw lights on upstairs; she has been very precise when outlining which lights were on on her arrival and at what point the other lights were turned on...it just jarred with me.

LookingThroughTheFog · 05/05/2014 11:32

WildThong, she says she didn't want to go all the way up the stairs - she was at the landing that was mid way up the stairs, not the one at the top.

(I'm pretty sure I heard that).

AmIthatSpringy · 05/05/2014 11:33

Wild. I heard it as she heard the footsteps then went up. I will listen again tonight.

With the layout of the house I wouldn't imagine hearing bathroom noises from so so far away

voiceofgodot · 05/05/2014 11:33

Has there been an adjournment so that the Judge can speak to Nel? (I missed the pause..)

Nerf - I'm in two minds re. the hands over the ears. I don't think it does him any favours in terms of how he's coming across to the televised audience. But that doesn't matter. I don't think the Judge will think anything of it. He is facing up to what he has done by being in court and going through this process, which is all that he can do. I think if he was to be looking steely-composed throughout he would be accused of being cold and unemotional.

voiceofgodot · 05/05/2014 11:36

Why is Nel obsessed with this cell phone?

AnyaKnowIt · 05/05/2014 11:41

So that's it for today

Roussette · 05/05/2014 11:42

Gosh, they are going to adjourn for the day, this is so long and drawn out isnit it...

OP posts:
voiceofgodot · 05/05/2014 11:43

Thank god - I can actually get on with doing things instead!

I'm surprised Nel didn't want to question her more.

Roussette · 05/05/2014 11:44

And Wednesday is a public holiday so they will not be in Court then.

OP posts:
LouiseBrooks · 05/05/2014 11:44

Blimey. At this rate we'll all still be here at Christmas.

Voice I'm not quite sure what he's getting at about the cell phone but OP had more than one anyway didn't he?

Nerf · 05/05/2014 11:46

Maybe because it has a code and she didn't ask for it? Or she knew him well enough to know it? No idea.

LouiseBrooks · 05/05/2014 11:56

I missed all of Mr Stander's and the beginning of Carice's testimony but had a quick look at the transcript on Sky (I will watch it after lunch) and Carice said that when they arrived, security were outside and so was Frank the gardener. Presumably Frank lives on the premises somewhere, so if there was a loud argument going on for some time.he must have heard it surely?

I wonder why Nel didn't call him? (I think I know the answer to that...) but will Roux call him or will he just submit a statement? I would think he'd be a very important witness.

Hillwalker · 05/05/2014 12:02

There's no way this is going to be over by mid May.

Roussette · 05/05/2014 12:12

this is quite a good summing up of today's proceedings.

OP posts:
YNK · 05/05/2014 12:16

I believe Franks quarters were beside a large water feature, which would stop him hearing anything.

RonaldMcDonald · 05/05/2014 12:19

was Nel trying to determine who removed OP's phone from the scene?

AmIthatSpringy · 05/05/2014 13:11

Louise. That was interesting that Frankie was mentioned. His omission was always interesting as he did live in quarters at the back of the house.

and I have often wondered about how he was and if he lost his home as well as his job.

RonaldMcDonald · 05/05/2014 13:14

I thought that they seemed like nice people who wanted to tell their story and not further incriminate OP
If he was my friend and I thought he might be innocent I'd probably do the same. Emphasise bits that he needed to be bolstered.

Nice touch about the friendly dogs
Nice touch volunteering info about how dark it was in the landing
Nice touch knowing the truth from OP's demeanour
Nice touch taking about other incidents on the estate

I didn't get why Mr Stander said that he wasn't a friend of OP's. He has described himself previously as a mentor and had gone to visit him post bail, was invited to the memorial and was the first person that OP called.
The first person that OP called

The first people I'd call after shooting someone on my property would be the police, maybe the ambulance and then family/friends
Not mere acquaintances no matter where they lived

RonaldMcDonald · 05/05/2014 13:16

isn't Frank simply the 'boy'? Op's Houseboy?
I know that sounds weird to uk ears but normal in SA..lives on site and helps out with whatever
I would be surprised if he heard anything

homebythesea · 05/05/2014 13:18

I wonder whether the judge's concern is re timing- it seems amazing to me that after 2 weeks break, when the lawyers had all been told to make sure they speed things up, that Roux gets up at lunchtime and says we can't get anyone else to come today!!

It also occurred that all this evidence post shooting is really quite irrelevant- it is not in dispute that OP was upset, screaming, praying, but that doesn't go to his intention at the time he pulled the trigger. We will never know if they were tears of remorse or genuinely because he made a mistake. So why spend time on witnesses testifying as to his demeanour in the immediate aftermath?

YNK · 05/05/2014 13:22

Why did the police allow Aimee to take Reevas bag!
She wanted to give it to RS's mum but she didn't call her or have her phone number!!!
Is that not an offence?

LookingThroughTheFog · 05/05/2014 13:42

So why spend time on witnesses testifying as to his demeanour in the immediate aftermath?

Perhaps this is why Nel didn't call him.

homebythesea · 05/05/2014 13:43

Indeed, Looking, and why Nel didn't dwell on it in his x-exam of OP

AmIthatSpringy · 05/05/2014 13:44

Ronald. What did you mean about Frankie not hearing anything. Did you mean that he wouldn't have heard or that he wouldn't say anything even if he did I have no experience of having "help" so not sure about relationships and loyalty etc.

He did live at the back of the house so i would have thought he would have heard

And wasn't he there when Carice Viljoen arrived so presumably something alerted him
