It's on the BBC website

allisgood1 · 11/04/2014 14:16

Abbott confident signals from MH370 black box
www.cnn.com/2014/04/10/world/asia/malaysia-airlines-plane/index.html

This goes on to say they aren't confident, completely opposite to the articles title...

Keeping thread on list.

Ooh, but can't find it reported anywhere else?

member · 11/04/2014 22:38

It's an exclusive that only appears to be in the paper version which most Malaysians won't have seen yet as it's not quite 5.30am Saturday there.

CNN have been reporting things supposedly told to them by senior government officials in Malaysia. Namely:
The last voice heard by ACT was that of the Captain

Radar contact was lost for approx 120 miles as My370 flew back across the peninsula because it flew at 5000ft or less.

Royal Malaysian Air force scrambled jets at 8am after they heard My370 was missing but didn't tell the investigating team they had done so till 3 days later.

Malaysia have said the last claim is false (yesterday via transport minister on Twitter, today formal statement from RMAF to media), but have not heard first two claims being refuted...

Gosh! We'll have to wait for tomorrow's NST & see whether it gives sources. The headline suggests they don't know whether it was a 'desperate call for help' though.

Still more information leaking out, more than a month after the event ... Hmm

GarlicAprilShowers · 11/04/2014 22:43

Oh, it's confirmed the plane flew low to avoid detection, then?

Malaysia having sent out planes to look for it seems more likely than not, tbh. Reading between the lines, it also seems likely the investigating team was so up its multiple arses at that time, it could have well have taken 3 days for information to filter through the various bureaucracies.

More Hmm Hmm

BoiledPiss · 12/04/2014 16:13

Oh my goodness, i have missed a week or so of this, the letest few posts look like developments... Off to read links

frasersmummy · 12/04/2014 16:25

I have read in a few places that the black box batteries have to last a minimum of 30 days but in reality they last a few weeks longer so to me the fact there is is still no debris and they say the pinger has stopped working at 2 days over this time says the plane is not where they are looking just now

i rea this headline on twitter this morning and was thinking why has it taken a month for this phonecall to come to light and how come they dont know who it was to .. this story gets odder and odder

JKSLtd · 12/04/2014 16:28

And I know Goldiewill love the phone call issue! Wonder if anyone else also tried to call but moved away too soon to connect.

AnyaKnowIt · 12/04/2014 17:21

Anyone remember the earlier reports of a mystery woman trying to call the pilot?

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 12/04/2014 18:21

"I have read in a few places that the black box batteries have to last a minimum of 30 days but in reality they last a few weeks longer..."

They might last longer but there is no guarantee. That's the point. Also the signal will get weaker and so may still be "live" but not reaching up from the sea bed.

If you don't think the previous detected signals by Ocean Shield were this plane, what do you think they were?

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 12/04/2014 18:24

"The underwater search zone is currently a 1,300 sq km (500 miles) patch of the seabed, about the size of Los Angeles.

The submersible drone, Bluefin 21, takes six times longer to cover the same area as the ping locator and it would take about six weeks to two months for it to search the current zone.

Complicating matters is the depth of the seabed in that area. The signals are emanating from 4,500m (15,000 ft) below the surface, which is the deepest the Bluefin can dive. The search coordination centre said it was considering options in case a deeper-diving sub was needed."

From the bbc.

mileysorearse · 12/04/2014 18:32

Didn't the Straits Times say that the phone call info was leaked by an insider? If that is the case then it wasn't meant to be revealed and is part of the ongoing investigation. It may not be true either.

Cuddlecouch · 12/04/2014 18:33

Apparently some news agencies have had an email saying hijackers made the plan fly over the ocean whilst negotiations were taking place. It's all so unbelievable, but something is amiss and information is being withheld.

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 12/04/2014 18:37

(Though of course they would say that - rolls out tin foil Grin)

frasersmummy · 12/04/2014 20:43

to be honest doctrine I don't know.. some reports say it could be other ships sonar, it could be old oceanography equip or just general ocean sounds echoing

I don't subscribe to any of the conspiracy theories .. just think they are looking in the wrong place

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 12/04/2014 21:20

"Two sounds heard a week ago by the Australian ship Ocean Shield, towing the ping locator, were determined to be consistent with the signals emitted from the black boxes. Two more pings were detected in the same general area on Tuesday."

From the bbc but I think it's been fairly widely reported.

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 12/04/2014 21:21

The pings were at a regular frequency at regular intervals and of regular lengths - I don't think they can be general ocean sounds.

funnyperson · 13/04/2014 10:14

marking place. will be surprised if box or plane ever found. interested to know who foots the bill and who profits.

mileysorearse · 13/04/2014 14:59

Each nation foots the bill for their own part of the search, not sure that anyone profits.
