Failing to see the relevance with the houses I'm afraid (and I normally love a spot of property porn). On this thread though, it kind of says "239 dead? No news of why? Look at this house none of those people will ever be able to live in, that'll take your mind off it" Confused.

This graphic shows where the Airbus Defence and Space satellite images picked up 122 objects ranging in size from 1m to 23m in a 400km square area & where this area is in relation to objects spotted by previous Chinese & Australian satllite images

here

DowntonTrout · 26/03/2014 10:38

Agree with everyone else.

The property porn posts were ill judged, at best.

member · 26/03/2014 10:38

Satellite images here

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 26/03/2014 10:43

Ok, could we drop the houses subject now? Yes, it shouldnt have really been on the thread, but if you read it, it came from natural conversation (about the landings in the pilots flight sim being like looking at property porn) not someone trying to purposely be inappropriate.

here is the line... (Im aware i am not thread police btw, just trying to douse the fire :) )

Dont know about hoping people were on liferafts, I'm hoping for the opposite tbh. Remains i'd guess were extremely unlikely, but hopefully personal effects will be found, so the relatives have something?

TheHoneyBadger · 26/03/2014 10:47

no dutch speakers then?

MerryMarigold · 26/03/2014 10:55

Beyond, you've got to love the self righteousness of MN sometimes! It's all part of the fun.

Honey, I read the 'translation' of your article, but was a bit garbled. Sounded like another 777 had a 'problem' and needed to be accompanied to a German airport by military jets.

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 26/03/2014 10:56

122 objects sounds hopeful that it is something.

GarlicMarchHare · 26/03/2014 10:58

YY, Beyond, it seems a bit grim to be hoping they died a certain way, but I'd rather they suffered gradual hypoxia - which apparently is like being stoned, then dozing off - than injured, shocked, battered by a violent ocean & frozen :( Hypoxia seems much more likely, which is something of a relief. The plane can't have broken up if it flew for so long, neither can it have burned.

member · 26/03/2014 11:00

Very rough : two f-16 jets were scrambled after an unidentified plane entered Dutch airspace. It turned out to be a 777 cargo plane heading from Miami to Schipol airport.

Eyelet · 26/03/2014 11:04

I was not expecting to walk into the supermarket this morning with two small children to see quite possibly the cheekiest sweet smile from a baby on the front page if the newspaper, on reading I realised he was the youngest fatality on the plane - my older girl asked about the baby, couldn't bring myself to tell her why he was there.

And I'm not the ghoolish type at all.

Statement made at today's PC here

Feel that the transport minister should stick to the prepared statements tbh though he'd be pilloried for not being open but most of the questions don't add anything. Malaysian Airlines to deal with the family expressed clumsily that he found it very difficult as a father & knew what the famillies were going through.

MerryMarigold · 26/03/2014 11:08

Ah, member, that makes more sense! Still a bit odd that it was unidentified.

GarlicMarchHare · 26/03/2014 11:08

Here's a summary of the Dutch incident. As the OP says, "Dutch show Malaysia how it's done".

GarlicMarchHare · 26/03/2014 11:12

How come pilots are flying with the transponders switched off? I think Goldie said it's not uncommon, but Confused Aviation experts??

MichonnesSamuraiSword · 26/03/2014 11:37

So the Dutch incident involved fighter planes escorting the 777? Imagine being on that plane, in the current climate of fear, to look out of the window to see a fighter jet accompanying you.

I hope to god that the pilot explained the situation clearly to the passengers, because I imagine not knowing what was going on would be utterly terrifying.

AngelaDaviesHair · 26/03/2014 11:39

Cargo plane-no passengers. Pretty dopey pilot though, clearly.

MichonnesSamuraiSword · 26/03/2014 11:48

Oh that's a relief, i had horrible images of passengers being terrified.

member · 26/03/2014 12:05

Wonder if the cargo was mangosteens? Wink

TheHoneyBadger · 26/03/2014 12:17

they 'forgot' to apply for permission. the coincidences certainly pile up at times like this.

GarlicMarchHare · 26/03/2014 12:22

Indeed, HoneyBadger. Thinking back to the earlier commentaries on MH370 - had the plane continued north-west from its last known position, it would have followed a corridor used by commercial flights to Europe. Only it no longer seems to be 'known' to have gone north-west Confused

TheHoneyBadger · 26/03/2014 12:29

not everyone agrees that the following another plane to evade radar is unrealistic

firstchoice · 26/03/2014 12:46

I am a person who got involved in the brief posting about houses.

I would like to apologise for causing offence.
It was thought-less rather than anything else but I certainly see that it WAS thoughtless and that that came across as disrespectful.
As a number of people have rightly said, it should not have been on a thread about MH370, but somewhere else.

I have asked for my posts to be removed at my request but I wanted to come back on and apologise as well, to Loopy in particular as I know that you have said you are very close to the situation and that you found the posts re houses 'disgusting'.
I am very sorry to have been crass enough to upset you, I really am.
Please accept my apologies.
I shan't be posting again without pausing for thought, and then pausing again. Lesson learned and I am sorry it was in a way that upset anyone.

AngelaDaviesHair · 26/03/2014 12:51

Gracious apology, firstchoice.

TheGirlFromIpanema · 26/03/2014 12:51

It's a routine cargo flight. There are temporary restrictions in place due to the summit taking place in The Hague. Can't imagine the pilot would be in any way responsible for applying for landing permits so I wouldn't assume the pilot to be dopey Hmm
