In all seriousness, that disappearing article is weird.

Is there evidence to suggest the US and/or China have in the past removed information they don't want made public? Verifiable?

I also want to know what "cabin collapse" means.

I am so confused. My tinfoil hat is melting I tell you.

DowntonTrout · 20/03/2014 12:12

In all honesty, that report not being reported elsewhere,(come on, it's real DM fodder) even to rubbish it, and the disappearing posts about it smells of a news blackout to me.

QueenStromba · 20/03/2014 12:20

Em, it's still on the China Times website - move along, nothing to see here.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 20/03/2014 12:21

It suggests someone dropped the ball in answering the call and wants that fact covered up, maybe?

QueenStromba · 20/03/2014 12:23

Also, that website looks more OK magazine than The Telegraph.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 20/03/2014 12:25

You have a point there, Queen.

DowntonTrout · 20/03/2014 12:25

Why was it never on any English language news website then? Even to be discounted?

Why have the Chinese reported it? Surely it would throw the families of the Chinese passengers into more distress?

Is there any further report in the China Times denying/dismissing it?

BoiledPiss · 20/03/2014 12:25

Yes Downton, their are so many conspiracy theories and untrue speculation im looking at you DM they could just put it down to another of those, to delete it is admitting guilt imo!

DowntonTrout · 20/03/2014 12:27

Also- why were all posts about it removed?

livingzuid · 20/03/2014 12:29

But..that is China and they would tell anyone to bog off with a news blackout if they didn't want to take part. Also it is in Mandarin so you would really have to know what you were looking for and would have to be able to read it. Unless there are sophisticated news search engines that can translate for you?

I acknowledge this is quite far fetched but why then would it be left on one news channel and deleted from all the others?

livingzuid · 20/03/2014 12:32

Oh did not realise we were sending help as well. From the Guardian:

'Survey ship HMS Echo is designed to collect ocean data to support submarine and amphibious operations and is equipped with a survey motor boat and a contingent of Royal Marines'

livingzuid · 20/03/2014 12:34

Not sure there will be much other news on the search itself today? It must be dark there by now?

HMS Echo is travelling from the Persian Gulf so I guess it will take a couple of days at least to reach there.

QueenStromba · 20/03/2014 12:35

I searched the china times site for U-tapao (???) and only got one other hit from August. This is the section that story was in:

Home

Instant News

Wang reported immediate

Focus

Sounds to me like a section for uncorroborated stories.

DowntonTrout · 20/03/2014 12:35

There are many posts that have been deleted on PPRuNE. Usually posters ask why their posts were removed by the mods and it is usually that they have discussed confidential or sensitive information.

A bit like Goldie saying there were some things that she could not give too much information away about, like how the cabin could be accessed etc.

Certain UK/US media will print anything with only the slightest grain of truth being twisted into fact.

It's possible this Chinese report is just this kind of fluff, but why not just let it die if it wasn't being picked up by other news sources? Why go to all the trouble of wiping it almost everywhere it appeared?

meditrina · 20/03/2014 12:35

The linked China Times article is dated 8 March. I should imagine that quite a lot of the international press coverage that day includes elements now denied/disputed/gone quiet. And I find it wholly improbably that a US embassy would have made a statement about a distress call that was picked up by only one newspaper.

livingzuid · 20/03/2014 12:41

OK tin foil hat removed again. Sanity returns and back to the facts, few that there are.

DowntonTrout · 20/03/2014 12:51

Yes sensible.

But It doesn't say the US embassy in Beijing made a statement. Only that the source came from there. ( that well known word source that means they can say anything they like without having to corroborate.)

I've never been one for conspiracy theories. I guess this site is googleable? Is chat? Will this thread appear in a search?

So if I say US base at U-Tapao Thailand, hears distress call from MH370, reports of cabin collapse or cabin disintegration, emergency landing, 2.43 8th March, would that show up in a Google search? If so, let's see if it also disappears.

Otherwise I will go back to my decorating, which I really should be doing.

Apologies for banging on about it. I have become too absorbed in this Blush

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 20/03/2014 12:55

If it's removed I'm officially digging a bunker.

Jjuice · 20/03/2014 12:57

www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057164133&page=92

I searched Downton and found this on another board so it isn't being deleted everywhere

DowntonTrout · 20/03/2014 12:59

Ok Juice good.

That means the CIA aren't going to come after me.

I'm lining the walls with tin foil as we speak.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 20/03/2014 13:02

Juice I'm probably just being thick but I don't see it on your link?

SinisterSal · 20/03/2014 13:02

they have changed the aluminium content of tin foil so it no longer provides protection against government thought rays

kept that quiet, didn't they.

Jjuice · 20/03/2014 13:02

me too! I also found reference to it on a couple of other forums. So is definitely out there.

I wonder at the wreckage supposedly being found yesterday in the midst of a lot of talk about DG and biochemicals etc

Did anyone else notice we stopped talking about that and are now talking about the new wreckage

tinfoilhat just blew up
