Aussies are pretty straightforward too. Can't imagine them beating round the bush with any information or releasing something they weren't pretty certain about.

Jjuice · 20/03/2014 11:40

followed the co-ordinates and found it. weird!

I really don't like the reports of cabin disintegration and also think that it doesn't tie in with diversion or flying time.

JKSLtd · 20/03/2014 11:40

Could anyone work out where it would have been at the supposed distress call time?
Not sure what time zone.
And why the satellite got pings for however long.

firstchoice · 20/03/2014 11:42

it is getting MORE not less weird...

DowntonTrout · 20/03/2014 11:44

Difficult it was apparently a source from the US embassy in Beijing. Enough for the Chinese Times to report it.

There was some discussion on PPrune about it so I googled a few things then went back to the PPrune page to re read the posts and there they were- gone!

Further googling of cabin collapse threw up nothing. I could only remember that the "listening" was from somewhere beginning with U. It bugged me for a couple of days and I wondered if I had even read it as it was never reported anywhere, but thanks to J on here! I know I didn't imagine it now.

livingzuid · 20/03/2014 11:44

U-Taupo is near Bangkok. +7 GMT.

If the cabin was disintegrating though, that's catastrophic, and debris would have been found near to the last known position if true. Surely you can't fly on for several hours if the plane is falling to pieces?

There's just so much that doesn't make sense here, parts of theories seem to add up and then more info comes out (or is retracted) and it's back to square one.

I started off thinking it was hypoxia, then a hijack and covert landing. Now I don't know what to think, my brain is getting a bit fried! Need a better tinfoil hat I think!

livingzuid · 20/03/2014 11:45

So I guess that means if there was indeed a distress signal it would have been within Malay/Thai airspace for them to pick it up.

livingzuid · 20/03/2014 11:47

Apparently the plane can't find the debris, the visibility is too poor.

RAAF P3 crew unable to locate debris. Cloud & rain limited visbility. Further aircraft to continue search for #MH370

A US plan had to return to Perth earlier unable to find anything.

SinisterSal · 20/03/2014 11:50

Would it be a big coverup by the Malay/Thai authorities for ignoring a distress call? Would they have the clout for that - prob not, I suspect.

it's gonna be a tough job trying to locate debris in that area as it seems the sea is pretty rough, guess it'll take a while for boats to reach it

SinisterSal · 20/03/2014 11:52

When references to a certain event are pulled form several websites at once, doesn't that point to a lot of people being aware of it?

Wouldn't soemone have to get in touch with the Mods of all those sites, therefore there are quite a lot of site management teams who know certain info has been pulled by big scary guys in black sunglasses. That's a lot of people who know somethings up. Too many to keep quiet

DowntonTrout · 20/03/2014 11:54

The original post I read said "cabin collapsing"

That's why I asked, does it mean depressurising?

I think disintegrating is just a poor google translate as the report was in Chinese. There are various translations on the Reddit page using differing words, so it's more of a guesstimate of the actual script.

Depressurising would take us back to the hypoxia theory. Everyone dead and the plane flying on.

I know it doesn't explain everything, the turns, waypoints or altitudes but we don't know, for sure, the exact details anyway.

Whatever, this report was made, then killed. It's mysterious.

DowntonTrout · 20/03/2014 11:55

sinistersal exactly.

SinisterSal · 20/03/2014 11:56

Why kill it - it only draws attention.

livingzuid · 20/03/2014 11:58

sinstersal neither the US nor China are well known for their tolerance of information they don't want out there. As you say, it is so counterproductive as then everyone talks about it even more.

I dislike this seeming big brother benevolence bs from the US government. In their own way they are just as bad as China. But that's a thread for another day....

livingzuid · 20/03/2014 12:00

Sorry I don't know what is wrong with me at the moment, that was so badly worded. Both countries are well known for their lack of tolerance towards information they don't want out there.

DowntonTrout · 20/03/2014 12:02

But it didn't draw attention did it? The story went dead in the water.

I find that much more sinister than being reported, people discussing it, backtracking, denials being made, like all the other "information" that has come out.

I realise I am firmly in tin foil hat territory now.

FabBakerGirl · 20/03/2014 12:02

PartyPoison - I thought he asked the brother what message he had for anyone who might be holding his sister but could have misheard of course.

DowntonTrout · 20/03/2014 12:03

Sorry. I realise I used a very unfortunate turn of phrase there ^^

livingzuid · 20/03/2014 12:03

Eeek didn't realise they were in the Roaring 40s. It's going to be a tough, tough search.

Maybe days before sighted flotsam can be identified. Night falling, "Roaring Forties" latitude, swell high, viz bad, winter coming. #MH370

Reuters reports the Norwegian carrier has arrived at the debris spot. Arrived at 8.00 GMT. It's a car carrying ship. There's going to be a press conference by the company Hoegh at 13.30 GMT. They say they will stay and search for as long as needs be.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 20/03/2014 12:04

I'll just ask my friend's psychic granny where the hangar is and tweet the Malaysian gov't. Job done.

Probably a hangar in the middle of the Indian Ocean. A sea hangar, if you will.
