The appeal after the overturned convictions. I hope this can all be brought to a close now.

*not bothered with the NEW appeal...

HowAboutNo · 31/01/2014 19:39

Thanks nostress!

PortofinoRevisited · 31/01/2014 19:42

You didn't bother with the appeal one as you'd heard it all before? No bias then? Hmm

Cheers Lioninthesun

If they can come up with great reasons why there was mixed DNA all over the place,

In Merediths room the only DNA they found belonged to Rudy Guede and Meredith Kercher. With the amount of blood spilt and the method the prosecution claimed this proves almost beyond rational argument that AK and RS were not there.

why the murder weapon was in his flat,

They've not found a knife that conforms perfectly to the wounds Meredith suffered.

why they lied about where they had been and when they called the police, why she tried to frame her old boss

A tap-in. They were questioned without representation for around 36 hours, and no translator was provided for Ms Knox. When asked whether Lumumba could have done it she said he could then immediately retracted that.

and why they were apparently unconcerned that Merediths door was locked all the while they were in the house with her body apparently unconcerned even though blood was found in the bathroom and the front door wide open...

I have no idea. Maybe they thought she'd gone out forgetting to shut the door. I've done that before.

When you pause to actually think about this and look beyond the tabloid hype around a young woman being implicated, wrongly, in the murder of another young woman and take a cursory glance at the actual evidence you can see that there is none. Not one scrap of evidence links AK or RS to the crime scene. But then, some like having their thinking done for them by the likes of the Heil.

nostress · 31/01/2014 19:50

Heard all the evidence yes... was there any new evidence?? Literally spent hours and hours reading this and I have a life! Bias? Well as I've already said I think she's guilty. I am however not the judge so my bias does not factor in the outcome of the trial/appeal. So its irrelevant!

nostress · 31/01/2014 19:50

and that's the second appeal I was talking about!

ohmymimi · 31/01/2014 19:54

I have no idea if either RS or AK is guilty. AK's behaviour has been odd and her various changes of story makes it appear she may be implicated in some way. What disturbs me is AK's apparent lack of concern or empathy over Meredith's horrific death, or for the suffering of the Kercher family. I don't recall her being reported showing any distress over Meredith's death or for the Kerchers, but I've not followed all the reportage.

I do find the persistent focus mainly on AK distasteful. Meredith had her life taken in a brutal and sordid way, and her family may never know why - what about their pain and loss?

Lioninthesun · 31/01/2014 19:56

I haven't actually read anything in the press on this since the year it was reported. I have read the evidence. Mixed DNA was all over the bathroom. The knife had Meredith's DNA and Knox's - in his flat. How would you explain that, even if it wasn't the murder weapon?
I'd also like to know where the 36 hours of questioning was meant to happen - IIRC it was more like 1.5hrs. And yes, she had food and water!
I can't spend time on this but if you want to believe the hype her rich family and PR company have doled out to the US then feel free. If you want more information, it isn't hard to find. It is easier after reading the information to see how a guilty verdict was reached. Not so much if you rely on the stories from Knox's media machine, as it is not the full evidence heard at the trial.

nostress · 31/01/2014 19:57

Lion I couldn't agree more..

PortofinoRevisited · 31/01/2014 19:57

Trouble with many of the websites is they tend to be polarised one way or the other. The True Justice site is anti AK/RS and the Injustice in Perugia goes the other way. I hesitate to link to any of them for that reason. I have followed this case for years - and read stuff on both sides. The John Follain book is highly dodgy as I recall. There was a better one, that went into more detail and covered a lot of the questions and the misinformation. I will try to find it. I certainly went in to it assuming they were guilty - but when you look at the actual FACTS as opposed to how this has been presented in the press / they behaved in an "odd" way sort of stuff, there is NOTHING at all that says to me they are guilty. As opposed to the man who left his palm print and DNA at the scene, then fled the country.

Lioninthesun · 31/01/2014 19:59

And no, she didn't immediately retract it, she spent at least a day writing letters to her solicitors saying along the lines of oh I can't be sure, did I see him there, am I really remembering it, oh I think I did, or did I?
She gave herself an out for lying, basically.

nostress · 31/01/2014 20:02

are you saying the translation of the judges report/court transcript is somehow how bias? Can you speak Italian and are you able to read the original italian versions?

PortofinoRevisited · 31/01/2014 20:03

The full evidence heard at the trial is available on the internet as is the summing up, and well everything else you could possibly think of. But as already stated above - they have not ever found the murder weapon. it was not the knife found in RS's flat. AK went to the police station and was interrogated for hours without an interpreter or lawyer present - AND they LOST the video of this.

OP posts:
PortofinoRevisited · 31/01/2014 20:06

Did I say the trial reports / translations were biased? I said the websites were biased. You have to read both sides and make up your own mind.

OP posts:
PortofinoRevisited · 31/01/2014 20:11

But:

They didn't find the murder weapon
There were no bloody footprints - they tested negative for blood. Bleach would give the same luminol effect.
The only DNA found at the crime scene was that of Rudi Guede - the bra clasp is highly compromised.
The knife was shown NOT to be the murder weapon - it was too big, and out of all the knives in RS's apartment they only took that one for testing.
The bathroom was not blood soaked despite what was published in the press - there were a few spots - see crime scene video I linked above.

I could go on and on but it is probably pointless.

Nancy66 · 31/01/2014 20:12

As Porto said. Depending on what you believe you can pretty much find any info you want to support your view.

There's no doubting that AK lied over and over again though.

(no prizes for guessing what I believe)

PortofinoRevisited · 31/01/2014 20:19

But where is the evidence she lied over and over again? That is a view. I have a different one. False reporting and confessions under interrogation are common. Throw in a foreign language and being young and in a country far from home.....

OP posts:
diabolo · 31/01/2014 20:20

She lied. And lied and lied and then made some stuff up. Why?

Doesn't inspire confidence in anything else she says. So why should I believe she is innocent?

Lioninthesun · 31/01/2014 20:21

Or you could read her handwritten letters to see her lies in her own pen...

Lioninthesun · 31/01/2014 20:21

complete with many crossings out...

PortofinoRevisited · 31/01/2014 20:24

I am 45 - and when I have to go to commune to renew documents etc, they fire questions at me in Dutch, and look at me in a sneery way when I didn't understand something. I find it extremely stressful. Extrapolate that to going as a witness to the police station and them keeping me all night whilst they interrogate me in a language I only just understand.....

OP posts:
PortofinoRevisited · 31/01/2014 20:25

I have read. Like I said I have followed this case for years.

OP posts:
nostress · 31/01/2014 20:27

Define crime scene?
And THEY lied multiple times...why?

Lioninthesun · 31/01/2014 20:28

Only just understand? She had a boyfriend who was Italian, are you saying she barely understood him? An honours student who apparently also helped translate Harry Potter into German, even though it was not her chosen second language?
The questioning times are very dubious. It is either 1.5hrs with food and drink, or apparently 36 on the brink of starvation and with no break... Anyway, I keep getting dragged back in and I really don't want to.

DoctorTwo · 31/01/2014 20:29

Mixed DNA was all over the bathroom.

Well, durr. Of course it was, it was a shared room. Check the DNA from her bedroom though, only her and the murderer are represented.

The knife had Meredith's DNA and Knox's - in his flat

So what? That knife has already been proven to have not been the murder weapon.

An Amanda Knox thread got me my first ever deletion on MN. :) I told some cloth headed oaf to stick her head up her arse and therefore avoid the Daily Heil. Happy days. :o
