BBC Link

The appeal after the overturned convictions. I hope this can all be brought to a close now.

Why would anyone want to ignore DNA evidence?! I never understand how people have such faith in it when they want it, and yet immediately shout contamination when they don't.

nostress · 31/01/2014 18:54

Read the evidence!!! The links are above including summaries or if you have several hours spare the court reports!!

horsetowater · 31/01/2014 18:56

Sorry Lion but I'm not going to believe anything that says at the bottom of the 'picture'
Tabular representation of footprint data by SomeAlibi of TJMK Hardly official evidence really.

And the conclusion that the wibbly wobbly footprint on a bit of carpet is highly compatible to that of Sollecito is hugely speculative and misleading. I think that website should be closed down.

nostress · 31/01/2014 18:56

That's what I am saying even if you believe the DNA is flawed there is still plenty of evidence! I do actually believe the DNA.

PortofinoRevisited · 31/01/2014 19:00

What evidence? If you discount the DNA - like they pretty much did already, what evidence is there?

I did spend a couple of hours reading through all of the court transcripts and every part of the trial that is online. If anyone else has done this and still thinks she and her ex are innocent, I'd like to see YOUR evidence.

horsetowater · 31/01/2014 19:03

Lion if there had been decent evidence from the start it would have been found then and there, not years later.

Lioninthesun · 31/01/2014 19:05

How can you discount the DNA? Or all of the lies?
Anyone want to explain why she was so happy to frame her old boss? Or any other of the timings that apparently a stoner got right and yet mobile phone records with exact timings from masts didn't? Why she rang Meredith's phone for just 3 and 4 seconds, not even waiting for an answer?
Anyway - I've spent my time looking at many sites for evidence on this and come to what I feel is an informed decision. I suspect not everyone on here has bothered.

roadwalker · 31/01/2014 19:06

If they were totally innocent why did they lie/change stories and implicate an innocent man?

stickysausages · 31/01/2014 19:07

I'm still convinced they're guilty. They 'got off' on a technicality last time. He has been caught trying to flee Italy too, make of that what you will.

Viviennemary · 31/01/2014 19:07

I thought the verdict was sound. And let's hope the extradition goes ahead.

horsetowater · 31/01/2014 19:08

Of course they're guilty. You can just look at her and tell she's a witch.

Lioninthesun · 31/01/2014 19:08

It was found, and detailed. The fact is Italy's courts take longer to run than a lot of others. They wanted to do this right and get a clear conviction, which they have done.
It has been called and she is guilty. She has made her fortune out of it though, that much is certain.

PortofinoRevisited · 31/01/2014 19:09

Because they were interrogated without a lawyer for hours overnight - and asked to imagine how the other could have done it. Patrick Lumumba only came into it because of the "see you later" text on her phone when he gave her the night off. She was asked to imagine meeting up with him. She retracted her statement the next morning.

Sollecito wasn't caught trying to flee the country. He was staying in a hotel near one of Italy's many borders. He could flee any time he likes and I hope he does.

MarvellousMechanicalMouseOrgan · 31/01/2014 19:09

What's that about "who sollecito is"?

PortofinoRevisited · 31/01/2014 19:10

Of course she hasn't made a fortune - there were HUGE legal bills to be paid.

MajesticWhine · 31/01/2014 19:11

I don't know anything about blood or DNA evidence to be honest... but I would have thought that it is difficult to draw conclusions from traces of blood found in a bathroom, i.e. it might be consistent with someone simply living there and using the bathroom. Nosebleeds, menstrual blood, bleeding when you spit after brushing teeth for example. However, looking at those pictures, large visible smears of blood with DNA from both Knox and Kercher looks a bit more incriminating.

PortofinoRevisited · 31/01/2014 19:12

Her book was MEANT to come out then was cancelled due to the ongoing legal process. How is she meant to have earnt a fortune?

In Europe at least.

HowAboutNo · 31/01/2014 19:16

Can someone link to the court transcripts? I'd much rather read the things actually said in court.

HowAboutNo · 31/01/2014 19:17

Excuse my manners! Can someone link to the court transcripts please?

OnaPromise · 31/01/2014 19:19

The proposed motive has never rung true to me, given that the three of the accused barely knew each other if at all. It just doesn't seem like something that three relative strangers would get up to. She is a bit of an odd bod, granted, but a murder like this involving people who've really just met would be unprecedented wouldn't it?

CajaDeLaMemoria · 31/01/2014 19:25

Porto Her book came out in the rest of the world, and was also available in Europe if you bought it from the right places. It's been quite widely read.

It is as you'd expect, though. It comes across as a very ungenuine account, and talks a lot about how she made it through prison. It's very focused on her, and that plays right into the media idea that she is self-obsessed. She might be.

nostress · 31/01/2014 19:29

Howaboutno.... I read them off the truejustice for Meredith sitewww.truejustice.org/ ... as they happened (the original trial and the appeal... not bothered with the appeal one though as I'd heard it all before). Just checked the site and its crashed! Keep trying there.
