BBC Link

The appeal after the overturned convictions. I hope this can all be brought to a close now.

His family isn't hiring a PR company either...but he did somehow have a very good lawyer.

Why would anyone take anything a journo says or prints as gospel?
Trail is where all of the real evidence goes and is judged accordingly. They have done this and found them guilty.

Anyone trying to say they know more than the Court at a trial is a little misguided in my opinion. By saying evidence that was given has been disproved/DNA was contaminated so not viable etc you are directly stating that the court was a joke. How anyone can say that information that was RELEVANT and FACTUAL was somehow not presented to the Court (when the world media is watching and millions spent on lawyers) and is yet available on the web, and believe this is really really odd.

PortofinoRevisited · 01/02/2014 22:00

Indeed Lion - the DNA was totally disproved at the appeal, which is why it the Guilty result is so shocking. There was NO new evidence remember.

At some point one of them will crack and the whole story will come out.

I for one very much doubt it will correlate with her book which I understand is much more detailed and well remembered than her statements at the time

KeinBock · 01/02/2014 22:04

Are you calling witnesses now, Porto?

I am not in any position to "outline evidence" any more than you are capable of making rulings.

Google searches should not be confused with an actual understanding of the facts of the case.

PortofinoRevisited · 01/02/2014 22:04

I wouldn't hold your breath. I guess RG will get released though within a few years, and we jut have to hope he won't do it again.

OP posts:
Nancy66 · 01/02/2014 22:05

Porto - I really don't think what you are claiming is accurate.
The DNA evidence has been questioned. It certainly hasn't been 'totally disproved'

stickysausages · 01/02/2014 22:07

Back to my original question porto...

You seem very biased.

PortofinoRevisited · 01/02/2014 22:08

Excuse me, Keinbock - you linked to some American bloke as if that is to the key to all. I don't KNOW what happened but I have read many, many things over the last 6, 7 years that has given me an opinion as to what happened. Please feel free to to explain what you think.

OP posts:
Lioninthesun · 01/02/2014 22:14

I think the Harvard Prof made the good point that the US media has been all over this to proclaim she is innocent and make a mockery of the Italian legal system. His point was that in reality, with the same amount of evidence against her in a US Court she would have been banged up pronto and possibly killed with the Death Penalty. I very much doubt they would have any patience for RS running like a fugitive either...

PortofinoRevisited · 01/02/2014 22:14

Of course I am biased. I read much stuff - trial transcripts, summings up, news reports, websites etc etc, and decided they were not guilty. I would encourage anyone to do some reading up. I purposely tried to avoid linking to biased websites etc though this is hard to do. I would like anyone who is interested to read beyond the newspaper accounts and really think about what happened and why.

PortofinoRevisited · 01/02/2014 22:17

Lion - I disagree because I consider the case against her to be so slim. They would have caught Rudi Guede and locked HIM up though. Remember that Mignini had come up with the Sex Game stuff at least a week before they had identified Rudi Guede.

OP posts:
Lioninthesun · 01/02/2014 22:18

As I said before, if you read the trial transcripts and NOT news reports (please dear god, don't get info you rely on from the press!) you can see all of the evidence against them. You can see letters AK wrote in her own hand, photographs of the blood stained bathroom (not some amateur handicam sweep of a room in bad light), details of all of the DNA found, transcripts from Meredith's friends, and a whole lot more.

Anyone looking for any more will have to wait until RS cracks - I think he will when he sees he is going down solo, if US doesn't extradite her. Rudy can come out with whatever happened as soon as they are behind bars, assuming he hasn't been paid for his silence.

PortofinoRevisited · 01/02/2014 22:21

Amateur handicam? That was the official crime scene footage. If you consider it amateur, what are you saying?

OP posts:
PortofinoRevisited · 01/02/2014 22:23

Lion, I can assure you I don't rely on the press for accurate reporting.

OP posts:
Lioninthesun · 01/02/2014 22:23

If you don't focus on 'sex game' as a motive - say Rudi was with them smoking pot and they had no idea how dangerous he was. He then attacks Meredith and has sex with her against her will (condom residue) she is screaming and somehow the two of them (AK and RS) get involved in the fight (to shut her up, to cover the fact they used pot so often) and Meredith is stabbed (who knows who by). That sounds much more likely to me - not premeditated, just confusion and drugs and a group mentality at the time. Pure conjecture of course. Dangerous, isn't it?
AK and RS trouble is that they lied from the start, and now they look far more guilty as a result.

MajesticWhine · 01/02/2014 22:26

PortofinoRevisited, if they are innocent as you believe, why the unclear account of where they were and what they were doing? Why did RS's computer records not agree with their claims? Why the lies? Why the phone call to the police by RS, then hanging up when he was put on the spot about what happened? Why did AK lie about Meredith locking her door?

Lioninthesun · 01/02/2014 22:26

Well it certainly wasn't shot by a cinematographer. Photos are much better as they are in focus and with correct lighting i.e you can actually see what they are trying to show you.

redrubyindigo · 01/02/2014 22:29

I think if AK and RS had been tested for drugs/alcohol the morning after Meredith's death it might have cleared up a few questions.

PortofinoRevisited · 01/02/2014 22:29

the "blood soaked" bathroom

OP posts:
Bananagio · 01/02/2014 22:29

I read the book written by Meredith's Dad and he goes through the evidence presented in the first stage of the trial and the appeal. It is a really dignified account and he doesn't show any great desire for AK and RS to be found guilty, just that they learn what happened to his daughter. Because it deals with the evidence presented in court you don't have to sift through the myths and rumours that have taken on such a life of their own. And agree with Nancy66, the evidence wasn't totally discredited in the appeal. Plus the judge presiding over the appeal went on to say that he couldn't say for sure that RS and AK weren't involved.
I am not someone convinced they are guilty but DNA aside I think the circumstantial evidence is such that the liklihood is they were involved to some extent.

Lioninthesun · 01/02/2014 22:34

Porto relinking to handicam simply highlights what I mean about why you should look at the court photos instead Hmm
And calling it 'blood soaked' which I think you said was the quote from DM or some other silly rag isn't helping your case. It is not how it was described anywhere else.

Re-posting the same links over again doesn't change what the Court saw and was admitted and resulted in a GUILTY verdict.

Perhaps you should focus on what the court did see once more and try to understand that they are not interested in conjecture and the press reports or what ABC news says or what their suspect looks like?

PortofinoRevisited · 01/02/2014 22:35

I think personally that they got stoned and were shagging, taking advantage of Aks impromptu night off. There was a witness who saw them in the apartment about 9ish.

OP posts:
Lioninthesun · 01/02/2014 22:37

Banana sadly no one seems to be getting through to OP that there IS EVIDENCE against these two and it has been ruled on.

Conspiracy theories have their own place, but it is getting a little dull when we are re-linking to sites proclaiming her innocence that are not deemed worthy of being submitted to Court by AK and RS's own solicitors...

MajesticWhine · 01/02/2014 22:40

I too have been stoned. It didn't render me completely incapable of knowing whether I had spent the evening out or at home. If they were at home shagging, then why did they say they were on the computer (when they weren't) and why did RS say that AK went out for the evening?

Birdsighland · 01/02/2014 22:42

Sangria, I think RG was in court to repudiate what Alessi had said. I think Alessi was put forward by the defence to state RG had confided in him that the defendents had nothing to do with it.
