Why should women like this be allowed to keep reproducing and just getting rid of a baby because she just feels like it. It's sick.

perceptionreality · 18/09/2012 19:04

The expression 'keep your legs shut' is misogynistic. HTH

cakeismysaviour · 18/09/2012 19:04

I'm surprised by the fact a woman going to her GP and requesting an abortion at 36 weeks for no reason didn't ring enough alarm bells to get social workers knocking on her door? Surely such a request indicates an imminent state of crisis? In this case it appears that the woman was coldly desperate to be rid of her baby by any mean, but it could have indicated any number of things, eg a woman living in some desperate situation at home, abuse, rape, severe depression, psychosis...why did someone not address this sooner?

I agree. If the GP had been on the ball and called social services, I expect the baby would be alive and up for adoption.

joona · 18/09/2012 19:06

I totaly agree lovechoc

There are thousands of women TTC & failing, yet there are women like her who can seemingly get rid of a child by any means possible without a second thought, time and time again.

And before anybody pipes up & asks 'how do you know its without a second thought?' ... I think its evident enough judging on the fact it has happend several times.

perceptionreality · 18/09/2012 19:06

Just because I don't bay for blood does not mean I agree with what she did. I don't really see how your approach resolves anything though...

joona · 18/09/2012 19:08

If my approach was put into practice, it would ensure that she could not do this to any other child.

That would be a pretty good result.

perceptionreality · 18/09/2012 19:09

'Why should women like this be allowed to keep reproducing and just getting rid of a baby because she just feels like it. It's sick.'

She's been given a custodial sentence - did you miss that?

perceptionreality · 18/09/2012 19:11

Well she's not very likely to be able to do it again now anyway joona as she's in prison. Would it make you feel warm and fuzzy inside knowing she was tortured to death instead?

lovechoc · 18/09/2012 19:12

May be misogynistic but it's true! I will stand by it.

joona · 18/09/2012 19:12

A custodial sentence which will be over in 8 years.. maybe less than that.

By which time, she will only be in her mid 40's.

lovechoc · 18/09/2012 19:12

true perception but for how long until she does it all again once she's released?

lovechoc · 18/09/2012 19:13

haha, there's joona thinking along the same lines as myself. Again! Great minds think alike then Wink

lovintheolives · 18/09/2012 19:13

i have no words...this is both shocking and disturbing! Nothing short of murder Sad

cakeismysaviour · 18/09/2012 19:16

If she is mid forties when she is released, her chances of being able to fall pregnant again will be greatly reduced.

BlackberryIce · 18/09/2012 19:17

4 years.... She serves 4 and remaining 4 are on licence

joona · 18/09/2012 19:18

perception 8 yrs free bed & breakfast is not sufficient punishment for taking an innocent life.

That's my opinion, it wont be changing anytime in the forseeable future.

perceptionreality · 18/09/2012 19:18

But in perpetuating misogynistic terminology, you are doing a disservice to all women, not just her!

cakeismysaviour · 18/09/2012 19:18

Is that dependant on good behaviour? Could she serve the whole sentence in prison?

BlackberryIce · 18/09/2012 19:18

Oh and Lynette that's a good point you made up thread.... Police found her Internet searches very telling. So surely there would be info on it relating to the selling of her baby if that had been her intention

BlackberryIce · 18/09/2012 19:19

My link way back up thread explained in more detail

perceptionreality · 18/09/2012 19:21

I strongly suspect there is far more to this sad story than has been reported.

joona · 18/09/2012 19:22

cake reduced yes, but it is not impossible.

As blackberry says, she will more than likely only serve half her sentence.
4 years. For killing a baby.

She deserves much, MUCH more than that.

lovechoc have a Wine with me, i think i need one reading some of the crap on here!!

pumpkinsweetie · 18/09/2012 19:23

She will only serve four, so im guessing still be able to reproduce when she gets out & then repeat the senario all again.
Who knows, maybe she did this to get into the newspapers & on the news!

joona · 18/09/2012 19:24

Lots of women in their 40's have babies. Nothing stopping her doing it again when she's released, unless they do something to make damn sure she cant.

foolingwithmisskitty · 18/09/2012 19:29

How come infanticide is usually not met with a custodial sentence and this is? I think the whole case is very sad. This woman would have laboured alone and will have to live with this guilt for the rest of her life of what she has done. I don't really see why 8 years in jail is in the public interest. Ultimately she would have had to had serious mental health issues to do something so terrible to herself and her child. The choice of photographs used and tone of news reports is chosen to make you hate this woman but we must remember the press has it's own agenda. It's just so sad for this baby, her family and everyone involved and I'm sure this woman will live with the guilt and hatred from the public for the rest of her days.
