didn't quite get the full story but it was on the news this morning when I walked into the living room.

What I caught was that an 11 old girl got raped by some youth in the supermarket toilet whilst her mother was not to far away doing the shopping.

FFS what kind of world do we life in where your kids can't even go to the toilet on their own once old enough to find you again in the supermarket?!!

Hope they catch that animal

her mother whose identity was hidden was on sky news appealing yesterday for help to catch him and she broke down wishing she gone in to the toilet with her daughter but it is not her fault! I wish I could have said it is not your fault this is not meant to happen .

It was dreadful i wanted to cry too, I hope they catch him. I wish we weren't at the mercy of predatory males who seem to crop up everywhere, I have always had a phobia abou letting my little boy go in the mens toilets himself and i will be sticking with my phobia it is not worth any risk. I hope the little girl recovers it is so sad

sparklymieow · 07/03/2006 09:21

I had an arguement with DH the other day because he let DS go to the toliet by himself in burger king. DS then agured with me when I wouldn't let him go in the male toliets alone while he was out with me.
poor girl, hope they catch him.

chocolateshoes · 07/03/2006 09:29

You know it was this kind of thing that put me off having kids in the first place. A fear of something so appalling happening to one of mine. I don't know how I would cope. How must that poor Mum feel, & how will she ever get over it. How are we to give our children some independence if they can't even go into supermarket loo on their own? I hope the girl recovers & I hope they have strong family & friends around them.

katzg · 07/03/2006 09:30

why?

i just don't understand why anyone would want to do it.

MrsBigD · 07/03/2006 09:59

it's just sickening.

A few months ago dd 'ran off' at McDonalds to go to the upstairs loo. She came back again and was very proud of herself for her accomplishment. Well that ain't going to happen again!

It's such a shame we have to curb our kids independence in such manner because of those vile creatures out there!

Oh isn't this disgusting Shock
I have let my 4yr old run to the loos in Tescos whilst I am at the checkout with DS. I will have to make sure we all go together before we start shopping!

zippitippitoes · 07/03/2006 10:27

In this town (same one incidentally) I've noticed that supermarkets are quite uncomfortable places to be, three times in the last few weeks I've ben in the town centre tescos and there have been intimidating groups including riding bikes in the store, swearing loudly, grabbing, running etc

last wednesday evening a young man was yelling and swearing down his phone at the checkout accompanied by mates, girls, etc and before I'd finished my shopping he was fighting with police outside the store

the supermarket where this horrible attack took place is busy, with Starbucks and an after school club centre ...I don't know what the answer is

pashmina · 07/03/2006 11:01

this really is awful, the supermarkets need to do more to ensure everybodies safety. They all have excellent CCTV, which is hopefully helping with ID of this disgusting youth. Perhaps the security guards nshould ensure better monitoring of bad behaviour, and also exclude anybody wearing a hoodie, unless they remove it. They shoud ensure the security guards are approaching people who behave in this way, and get them banned, and fined.

The supermarkets take enugh money from us, the least they should do is ensure everybodies safety.

feel terrible for this poor girl and her family Sad.

GDG · 07/03/2006 11:10

Sad - just sickening and so, so sad.

ChicPea · 07/03/2006 11:36

Zipi, which town are we talking about?

They will catch him, there will be CCTV images of him and everybody will be so disgusted with such a dreadful crime against this girl that he will be named and shamed and caught.

ChicPea · 07/03/2006 11:37

Oh Leamington spa. I have never been but is sounds so pretty from the name.

Tasa · 07/03/2006 11:43

I think public toilets anywhere are pretty risky places for children,

FrannyandZooey · 07/03/2006 11:56

I haven't read the thread but I just wanted to say that I really don't like the sensationalist title all in capitals. You can't go on active convos without your eye being caught by this again and again which is upsetting in my opinion. If it had been a joky thread or whatever then no big deal, but I think to put something so disturbing and serious in great big capitals actually belittles what you are trying to say about it.

pashmina · 07/03/2006 12:04

f&z, why? if it stops one person from sending their child in to a public loo alone again? don't think original poster was trying to be sensationalist, just appalled and shocked as 99.9 of the population is, i suspect

FrannyandZooey · 07/03/2006 12:06

Yes I am sure you are right pashmina, about the OP not trying to be sensationalist. Erm still don't think it's appropriate really, but I will butt out.

GDG · 07/03/2006 12:08

I see what F&Z is saying - I understand her point about the capitals and also the punctuation at the end. I don't think it was intentional though - I don't think it meant to be sensationalist. Probably done to convey shock but I know what F&Z means.

MrsBigD · 07/03/2006 12:11

frannyandzoey

defo didn't want to be sentationalist! just was horrified.

Do admit guilty of posting in capitals most of the time. then again why should't this subject be eye catching if it prevents anythign like this happening again to some other poor mite?

OP posts:
Enid · 07/03/2006 12:13

well I will still let my dd1 go to the loo on her own in the supermarket.

puddle · 07/03/2006 12:16

This is a horrifying story. But the girl was 11. Are you suggesting that children of 11 shouldn't be using public toilets on their own?

My ds is nearly 6 and still comes in the ladies with me but there will come a time in the next couple of years when I'll have to stand outside and wait for him. And my dd will have to go on her own when she's out with dp.

we need to get this into perspective I think.

FrannyandZooey · 07/03/2006 12:19

No I spoke hastily MrsD and didn't mean to imply you were being deliberately sensationalist. However the use of capitals does come across that way IMO.
