See below

Homosexuals should not run the country

Apologies if you've seen this - is the woman mad?

OP posts:
ScummyMummy · 03/02/2006 12:56

Oh dear- what a pile of bilge. C'mon Lowri- you are better than this, surely?

Caligula · 03/02/2006 12:57

I can see her point - that people who have no experience of normal life should run the country - but tbh I don't see how it applies to gay men any more than most of the other politicians in the houses of parliament. Let's face it, most of them have lives and experiences totally different to normal people.

And I think she forgets that gay men have brothers, sisters, cousins, friends, who have sat in the A&E and agonised about the MMR. And they're not necessarily cut off from those experiences.

gomez · 03/02/2006 12:58

What utter clap-trap.

Caligula · 03/02/2006 12:58

I think empathy and intelligence is a more determining factor than experience.

I wonder how her oh-so-close gay friends feel about her now.

Imagine a male journo writing:
"Personally, I have to say that I don't think women make good party leaders or Prime Ministers. This has nothing to do with what they do in bed but everything to do with their lives in general.

Before I am accused of prejudice, I should say that not only are some of my best friends women, but i am married to one. It is precisely because I know such a lot of women that I can say that I don't think many of them are capable of representing the interests of the vast majority of businesses and public bodies that are run by us men" etc etc.

Being 'freinds' with someone does not in ANY WAY give you the right to say you are not prejudiced, as generations of sexism from married men presumably demonstrates. how DARE she put herself up as the expert on gay men's thinking and lives, as if the rest of us have never 'met one' ooh er missus.

And does she not realise that plenty of gay men - and women - haev kids, have dealt with education and jealth...silly cow.

I do have a problem with deceitful liars running the country and feel very sorry for Belinda Oaten at the mo. I'd feel exactly the same if Mark Oaten had been carrying on with a woman or visiting female prostitutes.
Simon Hughes handled the whole issue badly and has been a hypocritical liar in the past, but no-one's heart has been broken by his lifestyle.
Personally I feel the country might be a better place with more governmental input from gay men and women. Lowri you are mad, no doubt about it.

LadySherlockofLGJ · 03/02/2006 13:01

Run Lowri run ~~~~~~~######

Blu · 03/02/2006 13:01

Calihula - the country is, IME run by people who have little experience of normal life, especially if you consider class.

Blu · 03/02/2006 13:02

Marina - ditto deceitful liars...but we have NEVER seen that from the happily married heterosexual man currently running the country, have we?

Caligula · 03/02/2006 13:02

Exactly Blu. What does Ken Livingstone know about waiting in the rain for a bus with a buggy, shopping and three kids under 7?

Sweet FA. And I bet most of the politicians in the house of commons and lords don't know what that's like either. Even the female ones.

Blu · 03/02/2006 13:07

What on earth have Welsh people done to deserve this sort of drivel in theri media?

Marina · 03/02/2006 13:07

Ken Livingstone does have small children though Caligula, and use public transport, more than many politicians. Agree most of them are on Planet Reality-Bypass though.

Marina · 03/02/2006 13:09

Blu, they are all eejits. It's Friday, disconnect your perma-rant function now!
I wondered if the Western Mail would have substituted "Welsh person" for "homosexual"...

Marina I bet you when he's with his kids and it's raining, the public transport he uses is taxis.

I would stake money on it!

georginars · 03/02/2006 13:10

she is totally barking. deceitful lying bad yes, but gayness really not the point.

and love the inclusion of the eternal cliche "some of my best friends are gay"...probably not any more eh Lowri!

oh and nicely put Hausfrau

Aloha · 03/02/2006 13:11

Lowri Turner is welsh though, isn't she? Hence the Western Mail.

And Blu, I read your post and though, Blu isn't married to a woman? What's she on about?

I think it's hilarious to think that any politician (esp male ones) have ever sat in A&E all day.

tortoiseshell · 03/02/2006 13:11

There was a fab letter from her exhusband in Private Eye a couple of weeks ago, COMPLETEY slating her. He obviously hates her!

ScummyMummy · 03/02/2006 13:12

Quite, blu- I think Lowri may find that her gay friends are feeling rather peeved with her. You'd think that her brain would be shouting ALERT ALERT I AM ABOUT TO BE AN ARSE, STOP STOP, STOP! as she found her fingers typing the words "of course, some of my best friends are gay" but clearly her synapses are a little faulty atm. And I think the "you can only work effectively if you've personally experienced specific life events" argument is ultimately very flawed. Of course, it may help your work in many fields to have had certain experiences of life, but how would we get eg hospice workers if we took that argument too far?

Caligula · 03/02/2006 13:13

LOL at hospice workers.

I guess so Caligula . I retain the shreds of a sentimental attachment to Red Ken because of the all-round wonderfulness of the GLC and ILEA of my teenage years. I think it is wonderful in principle, if annoying in practice () that he has encouraged TfL to not charge any children bus fares until they are 16 in greater London.

ScummyMummy · 03/02/2006 13:20

Oh I love ken for similar reasons, Marina. I still have my save ILEA badge somewhere and treasure it far more than my Blue Peter badge! I reckon he might get the bus... And even if he wouldn't I'm glad I can.
