Rather shocked and saddened about Whitney

Never was a fan to be honest but along with other stars she formed part of my soundtrack to my youth.

I know she had issues. I'm still shocked, maybe not suprised (we'll see as details come out) and without frothing and candle lighting I'm still pretty sad.

Feel quite low about it if I'm honest, maybe that's because I'm an 80's girl, just another thing that passes, but I think her story is a very sad one.

RIP Whitney she was a strong talented and woman back in the day did have a voice that could move you.
Bobby Brown did he force her to take drugs then? Not being sarcastic but do any of us know what went on in their relationship. I never saw her as a sheep.
I out grew her music years ago but yes as a teeny bobba she was the voice I danced too and was a voice of the 80's.
I have to say though that the Bodyguard was the worse film I have ever seen in my life.

I don't think you can put the sole responsibility of Whitney's demise at BB's door, though he's a complete cock. Ultimately she didn't have to be with that bad boy, it he hadn't have existed I still think Whitney's fate would have been the same unfortunately... she'd have foudn another bad boy.

I'm sad because it looked like she was getting her life back together not so long ago... although when she sang on X factor (or whatever it was) she wasn't as good, her talent had suffered at the hands of her demons.

Still sad.

She had been away from Bobby Brown for a long time. It is unfair to put the blame on him. She was an adult who made her own (bad) choices that ultimately have led to her death.

I feel quite sad, as I was a teen when she was at the height of her fame, and her music forms a lot of the soundtrack to my teenage years. Just watching a tribute show now on MTV and she really was a stunningly beautiful woman with an amazing voice. I had forgotten she had so many hits.

I was only talking to my husband last night about her, as we were watching Dionne Warwick on the J Ross show (her cousin) and after googling to find out how old Dionne was, I saw this photo of her and commented on how much alike they were in looks at one time.

This has affected me more than I expected! I barely know anything about her, just her stunning voice. I also spent a week in that hotel a few years ago Sad

It's always the most sad when it looks like they're kicking their demons and everyone breathes a sigh of relief - re Amy.

Kate Moss is one woman who got mixed up with a bad boy and it wasn't the end of her, when it so could've been.

I'm watching The Bodyguard on ITV2 now. It is the first time I have seen this fil from almost the beginning. I've shed a tear. Whitney just seemed such a nice woman, well brought up.

Nyac · 13/02/2012 07:57

Bobby Brown used to beat her up though didn't he? If we're talking "bad choices" that has to be the worst one (his that is).

Women who are being beaten by the men in their relationships sometimes have drug or alcohol problems as they are using them as a form of self-medication.

These public outpourings of grief puzzle me. I find myself saying 'What a shame' when someone famous dies young but I just don't seem to get the grief emotions others get.

I find myself cringing a little, this was especially true when Princess Di died, it was like an element of mass hysteria going on. Her children behaved with more dignity than some of the public.

tribpot · 13/02/2012 16:53

I can understand that it must be deeply shocking for her family, friends and fans. As with Diana, I feel desperately sorry for a young person losing his/her mother at a young age, especially inside the goldfish bowl of fame.

And I suppose the fame aspect also means there is a shared experience - many of us have commented on Whitney as part of the soundtrack of our youth. We all had daft hair like hers and danced about like lunatics to 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody'.

But the public outpouring of grief - I haven't really been aware of that happening in this case, except among fans - which you would expect. I suppose in one sense (although I never saw the major expression of grief at Diana's death which was on the news at the time) Diana simply had a very, very large fanbase.

It is a great shame as well to see beauty and talent burn itself out. One of her songwriters mentioned this morning her acapella performance of How Will I Know could knock your socks off, it is well worth a - none of her trademark '20 notes for a single syllable' riffs, just sung straight.

boglach · 13/02/2012 19:45

I actually disagree totally with some of you. I think an abuser can well be implicit in someone's downfall. Choices become difficult when you are threatened emotionally, physically or sexually and in your daily life. Scars can stay with you forever.

I chose to leave an abusive relationship but the choice to be undamaged, carefree, without issues was taken away from me. I don't take drugs but I face an almost daily battle to unravel the disordered thinking and depression it left me with

So I feel very sad for Whitney

Such talent, such privilege, such a waste

Oblomov · 14/02/2012 09:54

Hardly a surprise. Infact more than predictable. She seemed to have it all, but actually never had any of the basics. She was messed up and didn't have the inner confidence or strength, which is what we all really need, more so than money.

RabidEchidna · 14/02/2012 10:55

Well no it was not a massive shock, she was never going to die an old lady in her bed was she, Looks like her daughter has "problems" also

Doobydoo · 19/02/2012 16:42

I am rather shocked and saddened about the Apple factory in China
