Rather shocked and saddened about Whitney

Never was a fan to be honest but along with other stars she formed part of my soundtrack to my youth.

I know she had issues. I'm still shocked, maybe not suprised (we'll see as details come out) and without frothing and candle lighting I'm still pretty sad.

Feel quite low about it if I'm honest, maybe that's because I'm an 80's girl, just another thing that passes, but I think her story is a very sad one.

Didn't want to actually break the news!!

I don't usually get sniffy about the passing of schlebs, but for some reason this has got me. Sad

Sorry kayano feel all responsible for shitting on your saturday night now.

I can't be sad for her, but I feel for her family.

Before anyone roasts my arse, she has had horrific problems so why would anyone be upset that she doesn't have to cope with them anymore?

I am not a Whitney fan- never have been, but she was a massive influence on modern female vocalists.

She will be a great loss to the music industry.

aldiwhore · 12/02/2012 02:01

Well I'm sad that she never overcame them to be honest. Although I see what you mean.

If truly honest, I'm sad for myself, for being old enough to have my soundtrack diminished.

I'm sad for her story.

Not going to roast yer arse SecretNutellaFix see what you're saying... don't usually do candles and hand wringing, but somehow this got me.

Tis sad. Can remember when 'I wanna dance with somebody' played in every pub in my northern hometown the year I left school.

FreudianSlipper · 12/02/2012 02:09

i am sad to hear that she has died :(

someone who had it all at one point then things went so very wrong how sad

GravityDefier · 12/02/2012 02:20

I am not one for lighting candles and crying like crazy for someone I didn't know either. To be honest I find people's behaviour over celebrities deaths often more than cringeworthy.

But I think we can all still feel sad that someone died at 48, it's just way too early. And I feel sad for the family, I think she had children? It must be horrible, especially with all the media still to come that will tear every single detail into public.

Aldi, I often get sad when things form my childhood or youth end or pass. It doesn't even have to be someone's death but the end of a book series or Tv show, my hometown getting rid of my favourite playground etc. And at certain points in our lives I think we're even more vulnerable, including when we're not feeling well in the first place. I hope you're feeling ok.

aldiwhore · 12/02/2012 02:33

Ayup Gravitydefier I'm usually a tough old bean, but you summed it up. No candles, no 'sharing of her experience' and all that, just general sadness... some selfish, some just sad.

Guess I'd better get more used to it, as I get older, it will happen more. My poor old Granny was 'last one standing' quite literally from her peers and influences whether she knew then or not... that sucks.

yup, I'm genuinely sad about it all. And yes, I think its exacerbated by my general poorliness... must've mentioned that a LOT on here but thank you for your sentiments Smile

RIP Whitney

I used to listen to her a lot when I was younger. Not so much lately but I still really like her music. She had one of the best voices I've ever heard.

I know what you mean about being sad when something from your childhood is gone. I think that's how I feel about it as well.

GravityDefier · 12/02/2012 02:43

No problem. And in my last post I meant tear it apart/drag it all into public, not sure why I got them muddled up.

You did mention you were awake due to your cough, that's why I mentioned it. My grandma is a bit like that, she is now over 90 and her husband has been dead for 20 years and all her siblings are gone. Some since they died in the second world war. And while she is starting to be demented now she is painfully aware of it and mentions losing her friends, especially since one went into a care home a while ago.

Don't feel selfish, it's how you feel. I totally understand where you're coming from even though I was not really an 80s kid.

Go have some tea with honey and try and go to sleep :) Tiredness and being poorly always makes me cry at the tiniest thing

TheMouseRanUpTheClock · 12/02/2012 02:48

The woman, had a teenage child, she was in her forty's, it's a shock. Uanbu!

aldiwhore · 12/02/2012 02:48

You should have seen me watching Lord Of the Rings earlier... I was on the brink of despair. But it was alright in the end. Smile

LOTR is mostly a very melancholy film.

inatrance · 12/02/2012 02:54

How sad. Sad I blame Bobby Brown personally.

Rhinestone · 12/02/2012 04:33

I also blame Bobby Brown, he is an utter twunt.

V sad, I used to listen to her in bed on my Walkman. Loved "All At Once", years later that song formed the soundtrack to the break up of my first serious relationship. I heard it in a nightclub for the first time in years and just broke down and blubbed! Blush

Music / film stars - seriously, stop doing drugs please. It never ends well.

CumpyGrunt · 12/02/2012 04:37

Just saw this on bbc 24.

How sad, not unexpected really, but sad anyway. Sad

I feel far sadder about this than I usually do about celeb deaths. She must have been one of my cultural references.

Al0uisee · 12/02/2012 04:57

I loved Whitney - she really was the soundtrack to my teenage years.

:(

RIP

LtEveDallas · 12/02/2012 05:09

Whitney was on DHs 'list'. She was gorgeous, but he admired her talent as well. I was never into her music, but was in awe of her fantastic voice. It's always very sad when someone who seemed to have everything to live for dies.

Icelollycraving · 12/02/2012 05:30

Very sad. Thought she was a little older than that, nevertheless it is always sad when someone with such talent spirals into decline.

Gincognito · 12/02/2012 05:34

Poor Whitney :(

BrandyAlexander · 12/02/2012 05:48

How sad, am in shock. She had such awesome talent. Such sad news :(

MackerelOfFact · 12/02/2012 06:07

I had no idea! I thought she was older than that too, assumed she was at least as old as Madonna. Which is still far too young.

runningwilde · 12/02/2012 06:38

Bobby Brown ruined WH - just goes to show how the wrong man can ruin you. She was clean living and healthy before him want she. He says he is in 'bits' Hmm
maybe he should be eaten with guilt.

marilynmonroe · 12/02/2012 06:52

Saving all my love for you was the first single I ever bought. Loved her in my teenage years. Sad

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 12/02/2012 07:02

I just mentioned on another thread how Whitney makes up some of the soundtrack to my youth. It brings back happy memories of being young with my sister.

It's an awful shame it had happened, but not a shock. Her poor family and daughter.
