Rather shocked and saddened about Whitney

Never was a fan to be honest but along with other stars she formed part of my soundtrack to my youth.

I know she had issues. I'm still shocked, maybe not suprised (we'll see as details come out) and without frothing and candle lighting I'm still pretty sad.

Feel quite low about it if I'm honest, maybe that's because I'm an 80's girl, just another thing that passes, but I think her story is a very sad one.

Whitney was a mess b4 bobby brown appeared on the scene and he has stood by her through all her shit, even taking her out to dinner with his GF and baby daughter last week.
Money, fame and drugs just dont mix. Amy, Kurt, Jimi, Belushi, Janis the list is endless.
It seems she may have drowned in the bath after taking her prescription sleeping medication!!!
Never liked her music much but sad to see a mum die at 48.
RIP

Nyac · 12/02/2012 10:34

How very sad. Rest in peace Whitney.

Megatron · 12/02/2012 10:37

Whitney Houston was addicted to drugs before Bobby Brown came along. Two addicts being together most certainly do not help each other but it's unfair to blame this one man.

notfluffyatall · 12/02/2012 10:45

Quite sad I suppose but hardly shocking. She spent the last 20 years or so killing herself so she was never going to see 85.

I am a little gutted we'll be subjected to endless renditions of I Will Always Love You on the news today, it makes my ears bleed.

gettingeasier · 12/02/2012 10:59

I remember the billboards advertising her debut album , she looked amazing and had a great voice too.

MessNessPess · 12/02/2012 11:05

Sad but predictable :(

WorraLiberty · 12/02/2012 11:15

I'm shocked, I had no idea until this minute Shock

RIP Whitney Sad

insancerre · 12/02/2012 11:16

Although I don't like any of her music, it's still sad that she has died so young.

hatesponge · 12/02/2012 11:39

It is terribly sad - I was at a bar/club last night when it was announced - they played Whitney songs for the rest of the evening :(

I feel so sorry for her daughter and family.

Sometimes all the talent in the world isn't enough if you go down the wrong path.

We were talking last night and saying would she have been better off if she'd never made it? Never been famous, just lived a normal life? Or would the same demons have plagued her in another way. Guess we'll never know.

RuleBritannia · 12/02/2012 12:08

Just another pop singer who shouted the words - didn't sing them.

Yes, I think she could have sung well if she sang though.

Greatdomestic · 12/02/2012 12:50

It's such a waste.

Very sad, but she had been a serious drug user for many years.

Shame for her family.

sausagesandmarmelade · 12/02/2012 12:57

Also very shocked here....and very sad too (listening to some hits here on youtube)

She had an exceptional voice....what a waste of a talent!

Very tragic!

SparkleSoiree · 12/02/2012 13:06

She was my idol when I was a teenager - amazing voice and attitude towards life.

Such a shame she lost her way because I don't think she ever found it again really, not to the same extent before she was involved with drugs anyway.

PosiePumblechook · 12/02/2012 16:41

I am alwasy astounded when the need to sound like a smart arse overrides the desire to be decent.

Abloogywoogywoo · 12/02/2012 17:16

to be rather shocked and saddened about Whitney?

It's not right, but it's ok

PosiePumblechook · 12/02/2012 17:24

like the above comment/.

I remember being at the Braintree Barn Beach party Hmm back in the day during the war and being thrilled to win the actual Vinyl LP of Whitney - The Album. I definitely remember doing something vaguely degrading on the stage Blush while wearing one of those awful black swimsuits that were cut incredibly high on the leg and very low between the boobs (I had none then). I was so pleased to have won the LP but what the actual fuck was I doing in a nightclub in 1985? I was 15.

Good old Whitney, sad she's dead but I bet she crammed more into her 48 years than I will manage in my (hopefully) 85 years.

LAlady · 12/02/2012 17:51

She was the soundtrack to my teens. I had her first album as soon as it was released and used to play it all the time in my bedroom. In fact, when I got rid of my records I kept my Whitney albums. My first kiss was to "Saving all my love for you".

So I do know how you feel. I think I have so many memories associated with her music, it's just made me think back.

RIP Whitney

SparkleSoiree · 12/02/2012 17:58

LAlady I kept all my vinyls too. I occasionally get them out, have a look and remember the good old days.

I remember one evening my parents were out food shopping, TOTP was on and Whitney was singing 'Saving All My Love'. I was standing on the back of the sofa singing into a hairbrush trying to be all super sexy and smoochy - would never have done it with an audience! Of course I was only around 13 or something with NO idea.

it is really sad, she had a real gift, not my kind of music, but there's no denying her vocal ability.

troisgarcons · 12/02/2012 18:11

I think she had a wonderful voice - cant say her genre of music was my taste - but I would imagine she was the choice for 'first dance' at a lot of weddings, even today.

I feel that her child has been left motherless at such a young age. That saddens me.

sozzledchops · 12/02/2012 18:16

we were discussing it today with my 9 and 6 yr old as they could see the headlines on the news. Difficult trying to explain how having everything that people seem to want sometimes is not enough. What do these folk do once they have everything, the fame, love, money but it still isn't enough and hasn't magically made them happy. Was the same conversation with Michael Jackson's death.

EricNorthmansFangBanger · 12/02/2012 18:25

Yanbu. 48 is no age to die. It's such a sad thing that these people get hooked onto drugs/alcohol/both. Not necessarily a fan but she had a brilliant voice.

According to tmz she was found dead in a bathtub and has apparently been taking Xanax, though there is no explanation to what actually happened yet. Very sad day for the music industry.

duckdodgers · 12/02/2012 19:51

Bobby brown is a murderer as far as I'm concerned.

Oh please don't be so ridiculous! Yes because he forced her to take drugs didn't he - she had absolutely no say in the matter - just another poor wee women destroyed by a big nasty man Hmm
