.... they ate like the English. www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-15561501 And so would the Welsh and Northern Irish as well. So put down your deep fried Mars Bars O Celtic brethren, pick up a Yorkshire Pudding and do your arteries a favour. What could be controversial about that?

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo you can take my freedom, but you can't take my irn bru. Glass bottle full or orangey bubble goodness.

Mealy pudding with your mince and tatties? Mackies ice cream? Tablet? Chappit Neeps?

sospanfach · 03/11/2011 13:24

I like white pudding.....

LaFilleSurLePont · 03/11/2011 13:24

Well we must be doing something right in my part of Scotland,East Dunbartonshire. According to this we have the highest life expectancy in Scotland.

sospanfach · 03/11/2011 13:24

Pan drops!!

GlaikitFizzog · 03/11/2011 13:27

Soor Plooms, brandy balls, lucky tatties!!

LaFilleSurLePont · 03/11/2011 13:28

I've never tried white pudding.Am I missing out?

CogitoErgoSometimes · 03/11/2011 13:30

If you try it, have the defibrilators on stand-by.

tbf I have only ever eaten it when taken with drink slightly. It tastes much the same as black pudding....

LaFilleSurLePont · 03/11/2011 13:31

I love black pudding. It's hard to find a really good one though. Most aren't spicy enough.

I've heard of red pudding too. What's in that?

OriginalPoster · 03/11/2011 13:31

We called the white pudding sausages 'mealy jimmies'.

Stovies are/is? healthy, though, wouldn't you think?

sospanfach · 03/11/2011 13:32

Red Pudding

LaFilleSurLePont · 03/11/2011 13:33

It tastes the sam even though there's no blood in it?

A good black pudding must have a slightly cloying texture too,not too crumbly, but like the fudgy part of a brownie, or the soft centre of a cookie.

GlaikitFizzog · 03/11/2011 13:34

Are white puddings mealies in the disguise of batter?

Oooooh Stovies! How do you make yours? It's a never ending argument here on how to make stovies! I'm from Aberdeen, now in West lothian and the first time I was served up stovies down here, well, describes it well!! I am now on a one woman mission to convert the central belt to my stovie making ways!!

LaFilleSurLePont · 03/11/2011 13:34

Thankyou,Sospanfach.

And black pudding must never be deep fried!

sospanfach · 03/11/2011 13:35

pretty much the same, even though no blood. Spicy and meaty and fatty. Texture different though.

kando · 03/11/2011 13:36

phew, we'll I'm OK then - I'm Scottish but live in the South East of England ... And I see no-one has mentioned haggis?! Am veggie so don't eat the "real deal" but veggie haggis - no-one will ever get me to give that up, served with yorkshire pudding and lashings of gravy ... yum!

LaFilleSurLePont · 03/11/2011 13:36
LaFilleSurLePont · 03/11/2011 13:37

I love Haggis. Again as with black pudding it can be difficult to find a good one. Some makers try to fob us off with beef offal, which doesn't work.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 03/11/2011 13:37

But you must step away from your mealies and your neepies and your bru of irn..... be warned!!!! If you don't start knitting your own pasta or letting the sun dry your tomatoes as we do in that well known national paragon of rude health and long life that is 'England' you're all doomed. To coin a phrase.

Ok so they are saying on the news the English diet is still crap, just not as crap as ours Confused and if we really want to make a big difference we need to take on a mediterranian (sp? typing quick, because i need the loo) diet. Thats pizza? I'm sorted!!

sospanfach · 03/11/2011 13:39

GlaikitFizzog I have the solution. Deep fried Pizza. That's that sorted.

LaFilleSurLePont · 03/11/2011 13:39

Thankyou Seb. I think I'll give it a try.

GlaikitFizzog · 03/11/2011 13:40

I'd rather be doomed living in my beautiful country ....

Anyway I'm from good stock! All my grandparents were still going strong well into their late 80s early 90s!

kando · 03/11/2011 13:41

So that'll be stuff deep fried in extra virgin greek/italian/spanish olive oil instead of smartprice vegetable oil - sorted! (PS Glaikit - how do you have your stovies? When I was growing up, ours was always corned beef and mashed tatties ..)
