Enfield riots?

Just seen on Twitter and in a few articles like this, that there are meant to be plans for a riot in Enfield tonight and riot police are in the town centre?

Used to live there, and got family there (luckily a fair distance from the centre), but fucking hell! What the hell is going on?

DH has just phoned from Waltham Cross, its sounded awful, all you could hear was sirens. He's now got to rearrange a site full of Mercedes, in hope that they dont get damaged!!!

Another Hackney dweller. Out near the Marshes. All our local shops are shuttered and boarded. The store holders are angry and scared. Helicopters everywhere. Even our quiet little area is really tense.

Had a day out at Science Museum and decided to come home early with the kids as I felt certain it would all go off and lo and behold it has. It all feels really edgy and sad around here...

So many good things happen here. There are so, so many good, kind people. I'm so sad that, once again, the eyes of the nation are turned to us for such negative reasons. Yes, there are some with genuine, reasonable grievances. But most seem to just want a fight.

I've lived here a long time and never, ever seen anything like this Sad .

Ryoko could you get more lame excuses in one post. These cuts affect everyone and they do not feel the need to behave like bloody savages

Empusa · 08/08/2011 17:49

:( How many more nights of this will we get?

DrPolidori Grin re Boris scaring the rioters with his haircut - I said on one of the other threads we needed him back for some black humour to lift the mood. at least everyone can agree when Boris comes out with one of his Boris-isms that he is indeed an upper class twit.

MissBetsyTrotwood · 08/08/2011 17:51

On the way to feed my neighbour's cats I saw a guy wandering down the street with four, yes four HP printers in a big plastic bag. Eugh.

Ryoko · 08/08/2011 17:52

DrPolidori

No he's going to tell em all to get on their bikes and look for work, preferably one of his awful Boris bikes so he can make a few quid off their fruitless searches.

Ryoko · 08/08/2011 17:55

teejwood I didn't say here I said on the news, the way the news use that word and I didn't say Labour where any better they are all out of touch Etonian sods.

"rIf you're down for making money, we're about to go hard in east london tonight, yes tonight!! I don't care what ends you're from, we're personally inviting you to come and get it in. Police have taken the piss for too long and to be honest I don't know why its taken so long for us make this happen. We need a minimum of 200 hungry people. We're not broke, but who says no to free stuff. Doesn't matter if the police arrive cos we'll just chase dem out because as you've seen on the news, they are NOT ON DIS TING. Finders keepers and we all look after each other so if you see someone getting grab by feds then make sure we help stamp out that fuking PIG. M.O.B money over bobbies =D broadcast this to everyone you know and let's get paid!! RE SEND. LONDON MESSAGE"

Theres no excusing that or blaming it on the cuts.

lottiejenkins · 08/08/2011 17:56

My Mum has just rung me to say that my sister who works in London can't get back to her home in Hackney as there are riots there! She is having to spend the night with a friend!!

If my business gets trashed, that's 10 people out of work. Blinding idea.

Coconutfeet · 08/08/2011 18:01

Dp's just come home through Hackney Central on the train. He said there were riot police all up the high street. We're in Stratford and apparently shops here shut early today as well.

lottiejenkins · 08/08/2011 18:03

They have just said on Radio 2 travel news that Hackney tube station is shut!

BulletWithAName · 08/08/2011 18:04

Is the action in Hnackney anywhere near Hackney Wick? My dad has to cycle home from there...

janelikesjam · 08/08/2011 18:05

why dont police use water cannons?

DrPolidori · 08/08/2011 18:06

radio 2 bless, we don't have tubes in Hackney! its the overground at Hackney Central that's been closed.

lottiejenkins · 08/08/2011 18:07

That was probably my error! Blush

lottiejenkins · 08/08/2011 18:10

BBC news on Hackney

DrPolidori · 08/08/2011 18:14

watching thugs on tv get bottles out of bins and throw them at the police...a couple of streets away

Coconutfeet · 08/08/2011 18:16

Bulletwithaname - I get the impression it's more focussed on Hackney Central. There's not many shops at Hackney Wick so I would think there's less likely to be trouble there.

BulletWithAName · 08/08/2011 18:18

Phew! Hopefully his cycle home from work should be uneventful, if it doesn't kick off in Walthamstow again!

Coconutfeet · 08/08/2011 18:32

Fingers crossed Bullet. I was very worried about dp coming home this evening too.

TheOnlyWayIsEnfield · 08/08/2011 18:43

Hello, guess where I live! (clue's in the name) Just wanted to say that a lot of the pics on twitter last night were claimed to be of one thing, eg Krispy Kreme or Nandos on fire, but were actually RT pics of flaming buildings in Tottenham from the night before.

Just that there is a lot of bs on twitter - as if everyone didn't know that - so hopefully it won't be as bad in RL as it often seems on there. Obviously, it is pretty terrible for a lot of people whose homes and businesses have been affected, but there is a lot of hysteria as well.

Having said that, I have just overheard some kids walking down my road discussing whether they were going looting again tonight, or whether they might leave it til tomorrow...

Hope everyone is safe, and your families. The police were all over Enfield last night, so I hope they are better prepared for tonight than they were on Saturday for poor Tottenham. Tragic.

Boredom is NO excuse for this kind of sociopathic behaviour!

Have we not ALL been bored at some time in our youth?

Don't give me the, 'deprivation,' argument, either.

I grew up in real poverty -as did most of my peers - but we didn't consider ourselves to be deprived. Nor would we have considered rioting and looting to gain the luxuries we had missed out on.

Too many social workers these days, with all their modern psychology telling today's youth that they have, 'rights,' should, 'expect,' certain things as their birthright.
