This thread seems to have been taken over by the same old minority of cats-bum-faced smuggards who think they know it all but have nothing of any substance to say.

So easy to sit at a computer screen spouting lazy opinions you read in The Sun, so much more difficult to explore and maybe even get off your arses and do something about the underlying causes of this sort of civil unrest.

Sometimes MN is really disappointing.

There's lot's of whispers and talk around here (Finsbury Park) re the shooting,not always reliable I know. One thing that is going around is that the 'non police gun' was found in a sock....no word on being fired,but if the man's face was laying across Ferry Lane....who put the gun back in the sock?

Tottenham is full of all sorts of minority people including, Eastern Europeans, Turkish, Albanian, Columbian people etc..

BTW, the biggest organised crime syndicates in the area are run by Eastern European, Turkish and Albanian gangs.

I saw a fair few Jewish guys running from mounted police,and I presume there were many more ethnic/cultural groups there,not only black.

I've done lots of voluntary work in Tottenham and there are horrendous issues there, housing, crime, prostitution, drugs, slavery, you name it they've got it. The women I supported bear the brunt of this, the council makes notes and the government add them to statistics. But very few people will actually roll their sleeves up and do anything to help these women who are desperate for help in making their childrens lives a success.

As I said before, many of these young men simply have nothing to lose.

So I guess all those students who will be graduating this year and attended to student protests won't be employable either?

Actually, most of my student friends who attended those protests and were called yobs and thugs were in employment at the time or have recently started post graduate work.

LDN I was not black bashing fgs i was only saying what I saw. I have seen one report and there was looting and all shown on that report were young black men. I have no doubt others were involved.

Bullet, she said that to justify sending her son to a private school rather than to one of the third rate schools in her constituency. After going to grammar school and Cambridge she was not going to risk her son falling by the wayside.

I think Noddy was probably referring not just to the riots particlurly, but to the reason the shooting took place in the first place, which was Operation Trident - targetting black youth gun crime, gangs, drugs etc.

I don't think DA is nasty, but I do think she is a massive hypocrite. As was Ruth Kelly and Tony Blair. Do as I say, not as I do. I know his went to state school, but they didn't go just any old inner city state school, like one with problems, did they?

Apparently the guardian and sky news are saying that it was a police bullet that forensics have found in the police radio. That certainly puts a different spin on things...

Such generalisation, including calling people scum, saying people deserve to die and their family do not deserve support. Truly shocking.

The police are there to protect us. They are not judge and jury, people should not be gunned down in the street in the middle of the day.

I think the people must feel disenfranchised, let down and shocked. I also feel a lot of the people rioting are opportunists and trouble makers, not from Tottenham and there for 'fun'.

Tottenham has a mix of many culture and races, it is not a shithole but a place where people live and bring up their families.

Why work hard for minimum wage when you can live off the state and supplement your income with a bit of petty and not so petty crime?

I find the idea that people are rioting and looting because they have massive social problems and aren't getting enough help hugely insulting to the thousands, possibly millions, of people in other areas who are struggling with similar problems and aren't rioting and looting.

rainbow I just read that too. If that truly is the case then I think a lot of people on this thread will be eating some humble pie.

And what about if it is true that he had a loaded gun, and especially if he aimed or fired it? Should the family and the protestors eat humble pie too?
