story??? just found the story here .

Some of the commments from people about the story (which they apparently had at lunchtime too) were absolutely shocking - "it's disgusting" were among ones that stuck out at me. Not wanting to get into a huge breast/bottle/formula advertising debate about it (as I'm going to work tonight so won't be around to partcipate until tomorrow afternoon/evening.

But I'm sure it's attitudes like that which have a bigger impact on a woman's decision to breastfeed, than some formula advertising.

MummyDayDream - you could get them charged with 'threatening the ozone layer'

suzywong · 22/11/2005 10:00

spray@OO

it sounds like the copper was an over-zealous boob fetishist or the person who complained was his dad. Either way there must be more important things to get your knickers in a twist about in Norfolk, ffs, I mean we've all seen Alan Partridge

harpsichordcarrier · 22/11/2005 10:00

people with annoying voices?
bad haricuts?
straggly beards?
it's for their own benefit

hunkermunker · 22/11/2005 10:05

People who can't spell discreet?

Oh, I'm going to hell!

acnebride · 22/11/2005 10:07

there's nothing in the story to say whether the PC was a man or a woman. In this country i would not be at all surprised if it were the latter

i don't care if she was discreet or not - she could have had the entire nork out trying to work out where her areola started or finished (frequent prob for me), who gives a t*ss?

Stockinghanger · 22/11/2005 10:09

Okay Hunker - that was me!! Was getting abit carried away - was in tto much of a rage to spell properly

Stockinghanger · 22/11/2005 10:09

too

NotQuiteCockney · 22/11/2005 10:11

I thought female toplessness was legal in this country? At least, that you couldn't be prosecuted for walking down the street topless, no matter your gender?

flamesparrow · 22/11/2005 10:16

I'm sooo looking forward to getting my norks out anywhere and everywhere !!! I was too shy last time and hid away lots.... this time the exhibitionist in me is kicking in (helped lots by pro-breastfeeding friends... not that I didn't have them last time, just don't think I was ever out in public with them at feedtime before.)

(that last bit was a pointless ramble....)

Back to point - GRR @ Police - my foster sister was being harrassed in town a while ago, an old guy went to the police (who were just lurking doing their "on the beat" thing), and told them that it looked like trouble was abrewin... the police did nothing - a bottle in the face, casualty and surgery later.... and yet stopping a woman feeding her child is something that they think is their business!!!

georginars · 22/11/2005 10:18

Vanessa Feltz seems to be discussing this on BBC London. Apparetnly stupid Joanne Good made remarks about 'puts it right of my food earlier'. If I can get DD sorted, I might ring up and rant!

moondog · 22/11/2005 10:20

I got my norks out all over the shop for yearsand (disappointingly) got nothing but approving nods and comments.
Grrrrrrr

georginars · 22/11/2005 10:21

And I breastfed IN a police car and they didn't say anything to me! (I'd have gone bonkers anyhow)

cupcakes · 22/11/2005 10:22

My dh told me about this story last night. It's so depressing. It took so much courage for me to breastfeed in public so I can imagine how this poor woman must have felt. I'm so upset for her.

georginars · 22/11/2005 10:22

there is a ridiculous man on the radio now saying a breastfeeding mother can only leave for 2 hours at a time

handlemecarefully · 22/11/2005 10:23

it's definitely something about East Anglia - a bit inbred and country bumpkin. The place where time stood still (I can just about say that since I have the misfortune to come from that area originally)

georginars · 22/11/2005 10:26

this man thinks that many women use breastfeeding as an example to show their breasts. I despair, I really do. I'm trying to phone to rant but I can't get answered - hopefully that means loads of people are also ringing in!

dillydally · 22/11/2005 10:26

Breastfeeders of the world unite (BOTWU)

handlemecarefully · 22/11/2005 10:28

georginars - is he fucking mad?

Sorry to swear, but I'm stunned at that

handlemecarefully · 22/11/2005 10:30

Which radio programme - can we email them? (if you have the name of the show and radio station they will have a website with contact email most probably)

georginars · 22/11/2005 10:31

I can't begin to tell you thye depths of his madness. He's being roundly slagged off you'll be glad to know, including by Vanessa. But not by me, coz I can't get through!!

Marina · 22/11/2005 10:31

Perhaps they should transfer some underemployed Norfolk Police to SE London where they could do stuff like stopping a gang of youths wrecking a churchyard memorial garden and verbally abusing an elderly resident who was unwise enough to come out and remonstrate with them. On dialling 999 to get some help she was called back and told not to waste police time.
Much easier to harrass a breastfeeding mum and then have a good snigger about tits in the canteen afterwards I suppose
I hope the NCT are baying for blood on this one

harpsichordcarrier · 22/11/2005 10:31

yeah moondog me too
i think I must repel negative comment - I expect you do too...

georginars · 22/11/2005 10:32

It's BBC LOndon, Vanessa Feltz
here
it's actually a pretty good show because Vanessa is outraged and they are talking about how it is such a ridiculous problem in England.

georginars · 22/11/2005 10:33

all email contacts on my link, good old Vanessa though, talking sense as per usual

handlemecarefully · 22/11/2005 10:35

Thanks for that. A colleague in the office is now trying to tune into the show for us!
