story??? just found the story here .

Some of the commments from people about the story (which they apparently had at lunchtime too) were absolutely shocking - "it's disgusting" were among ones that stuck out at me. Not wanting to get into a huge breast/bottle/formula advertising debate about it (as I'm going to work tonight so won't be around to partcipate until tomorrow afternoon/evening.

But I'm sure it's attitudes like that which have a bigger impact on a woman's decision to breastfeed, than some formula advertising.

ooh I didn't get all my points in but at least I made the effort. I am SHAKING!

Stockinghanger · 22/11/2005 11:13

You didn't sound nervous

bamboo · 22/11/2005 11:14

You came across really coherent. Well done!

hunkermunker · 22/11/2005 11:14

What did you say? I rang David Priva re bfeeding in public on LBC about a year ago.

Listening now, but I missed you!

roosmum · 22/11/2005 11:15

"we have to re-adjust our sight socially"

good quote - from a bloke

Stockinghanger · 22/11/2005 11:15

Sorry!! BUT THIS GUY ON NOW!!! what is he on!!!!

DON@Y BLOODY LOOK if you have a problem with it!! It seems to me he wanted to see a bit of tit!!

georginars · 22/11/2005 11:16

I said that:
breast are sexualised in this country, we have a tradition of Carry On, nudgenudge wink wink etc, and people just get embarassed. breast are there for feeding!
we have a low rate of brestfeeding in this country as compared to others, e.g. Norway, in part due to these attitudes
motherhood is about guilt, bottle feeders feel guilty, breastfeeders embarassed, as a new mum you have no idea what you're doing
the man who thought we did it to expose our breasts was bonkers!
it's illegal to stop someone brestfeeding in Scotland but not here
I breast feed in a police car (that's what got me on).
I think I was clear, and I think I also said that if people want to formula feed that's fine by me as well, we should be encouraged in every way to do whatever!

georginars · 22/11/2005 11:17

oh my radio connection has gone bust (ha ha) what's he saying?

handlemecarefully · 22/11/2005 11:17

Sounds like an utterly brilliant contribution...

Sai · 22/11/2005 11:17

I've been listening in too - well done Goerginars!

Sai · 22/11/2005 11:18

Sorry - Georginars!

georginars · 22/11/2005 11:18

I would like to know exactly what people find offensive (I forgot to say it).

hunkermunker · 22/11/2005 11:19

GAH! Out of respect for other people women should do it out of sight?!

WANKER! Doesn't want to be subjected to "the milking of the udders in a cafe when I am trying to eat my lunch"

Vanessa telling him to eat his lunch in the loo

roosmum · 22/11/2005 11:19

bit unfair SH, think he's saying we need to look differently - at bfing, at boobs - as a society. agree actually, cos if we did then surely we wouldn't have problems like this (ie mum being harrassed...)

ok at 'milking of udders' quote???!
that IS offensive!

hunkermunker · 22/11/2005 11:19

Sorry, that was an email she'd had from a stupid man.

georginars · 22/11/2005 11:19

oh god another man saying 'milking of the udders' puts him off his food. I'm a vegetarian and don't massively like watching people eat some food, but would I dream of telling them off or complaining? No of course not. Oh there's so much more to say, grr

hunkermunker · 22/11/2005 11:20

Wonder if these men and women who mind it have got children?

handlemecarefully · 22/11/2005 11:20

Obviously a mysogynist

roosmum · 22/11/2005 11:20

yep, different bloke to be fair.

roosmum · 22/11/2005 11:21

hunker the guy who thinks we need to look differently has/had a bfing dw.

hunkermunker · 22/11/2005 11:21

That was along the lines of what I said to David Priva - he'd quoted from someone who said they didn't want to see it in public and women should drape with pashminas.

So I rang to say I didn't like to see men with beards eating in public and could they perhaps hold napkins in front of their mouths.

He snurked. Honestly. Snurked.

Stockinghanger · 22/11/2005 11:21

Sorry Roosmum, I wasn't knocking the entirety of his view. I agree with what he was saying about it being alot to ask of men to suddenly change their views of what they see boobs as. What I didi find wierd was what he was saying about being in a clinic and being surounded by B'Fing women and "having a discreet look". If he didn't want to be subjected to seeing more than a little bit of breast, really he shouldn't have been looking. He admitted to haveing a look

hunkermunker · 22/11/2005 11:21

RM, yes - I thought he tied himself in a few knots, but was basically supportive.
