story??? just found the story here .

Some of the commments from people about the story (which they apparently had at lunchtime too) were absolutely shocking - "it's disgusting" were among ones that stuck out at me. Not wanting to get into a huge breast/bottle/formula advertising debate about it (as I'm going to work tonight so won't be around to partcipate until tomorrow afternoon/evening.

But I'm sure it's attitudes like that which have a bigger impact on a woman's decision to breastfeed, than some formula advertising.

OP posts:

internet radio is quite a few seconds behind live, explains the delay. the man on the phon siynde ok, matt on email NOT!

Stockinghanger · 22/11/2005 11:22

Sorry - terrible spelling there

hunkermunker · 22/11/2005 11:22

"inappropriate displaying in public" - this woman on now wants breastfeeding done "sensibly" and shouldn't force people to see. FFS!

hunkermunker · 22/11/2005 11:23

She breastfed both her children - but for goodness sake!

OMG, on ONE occasion, she's seen a nipple. FGS! Why are they studying women breastfeeding so CLOSELY?!

roosmum · 22/11/2005 11:23

LOL - she's seen nipples!

how WILL she get over it?!

hunkermunker · 22/11/2005 11:24

I'm going to ensure that both boobs are on display at all times after this one's born. It's due in January, but it's all for the cause, right?!

hunkermunker · 22/11/2005 11:25

Isn't it their problem though - why should it be the woman who is made to move?

hunkermunker · 22/11/2005 11:25

PMSL at feeding a baby under a scarf. DS would NEVER have tolerated that!

Gobbledigook · 22/11/2005 11:25

YOu going on page 3 hunker?!

roosmum · 22/11/2005 11:26

gdg

roosmum · 22/11/2005 11:27

no no no!
it's not in your face, silly moo, it's in BABY'S face, or it should be!
vanessa talking some sense at her, thankfully...

georginars · 22/11/2005 11:27

these people who do it 'flagrantly' - I don't believe I've ever seen that. And I hung out with many breastfeeding mothers

bamboo · 22/11/2005 11:27

Who are these "flagrant" breastfeeders? Does anyone know one?

Stockinghanger · 22/11/2005 11:28

HUnker - thats kind of my view on that man in the clinic - why was he taking that much notice?

Right I'm going to run now! (very fast as I seem to have spoken out of turn sorry Roosmum and anyone else ). I think we all agree that B/Fing in public is a necessary and natural thing and no woman should be stopped. I did it in public, I will do it in public if I have anymore children, but that doesn't by any means mean I will thrust my chest under any body's nose. Besides, I wouldn't want anyone to see my boobs after B/Fing 2 kids!! They aren't exactly a pretty sight

Georginars, well done you

Sorry if I have spoken out of turn

roosmum · 22/11/2005 11:29

SH

georginars · 22/11/2005 11:34

think i heard you on LBC HM.

hunkermunker · 22/11/2005 11:37

Really, G?! Cor!

GDG, I'd need to be on pages 3, 4 and 5 while bfeeding

PeachyPlumFairy · 22/11/2005 11:48

I saw that on BBc1 this morning. I mean, wtf? I think she must have been restrained: I'd have sat outside the police station feeding for the rest of the day.

Completely amazing, but I hope all the BF groups are surrounding the area now to protest.

sharklet · 22/11/2005 11:48

I saw this on the national news - absolutely shocking!I fed DD all over the place I certainly couldn't afford to go and buy a coffe or a meal to sit in a reseraunt everytime she needed a feed- which when she was small seemed to be all the time! I've happily fed her in her sling walking round shows, waiting for the bus, in the queue at Tescos. All I can say is he's Lucky it wasn't me he stopped - I couldn't be responsible for what I might have said!

QueenVictoria · 22/11/2005 11:54

ed at all this! Cant believe there are people out there that see b/feeding as a flagrant nork flapping display. I b/feed wherever and whenever i need to. Elsewise i'd never get to leave the house.

Will make concerted effort to b/feed in public more often. IMO the more its seen the more acceptable it becomes (to others).

Good for you georginars

georginars · 22/11/2005 11:58

I'm just so astounded that people think I WANTED to get my norks out all over the shop. It was just neccesity. And of course, I would prefer to go somewhere quiet and have a lovely cuddle with my baby in a clean peaceful envirnoment - I don't think that people realise that these places are few and far between. I'd have used them if they were there, rather than in a noisy/dirty cafe/shop/park/police car.

georginars · 22/11/2005 12:00

oops pressed post too soon. I mean, you feed wherever, I just preferred a quiet place if poss becausee DD was so flipping nosy! But if the baby needs feeding, feed, however you do it! Would people prefer screaming? Mad, mad all mad (goes off muttering)

PeachyPlumFairy · 22/11/2005 12:42

And if you didn't feed them on the spot, the same people would be on the phone to Social Services....

With my last baby (the only one to bf well) I spent hours in dirty public loos. If I am fortunate enough to have a No4, I will jolly well feed where I like. Not that anyone's going to sexualise my saggy tits, but anyway!

milward · 22/11/2005 12:56

just read this story !!! - awful.

milward · 22/11/2005 12:57

At least in scotland there is a new law protecting the right to bf or bottlefeed where ever.
