great story

Isn't it brilliant, a fabulous story that I can't remember being on the front page of any Newspaper.

I witnessed a Christian Minister turn to a Sikh student and say 'So I guess you're Muslim eh, how would you feel about September 11th then?' about 4 years ago.

there seem to plenty of people whoc an;t differentiate race from faith, or terrorist from faithful. These people have a name: idiots.

Islamophobes

OOh is that the latest buzz word. Well I suppose calling people 'racist' is wearing a bit thin.

I do not want Europe to become Islamified. i do not want this country to be influenced by this religion.

I do not like seeing churches, our heritage being turned into mosques.

I do not like Halal way of killing animals as they are not stunned and poor things scream and wail as the blood pumps from their necks.

So if that makes me an Islamophobe, fine by me.

I called you an Islamophobe because racist isn't correct, as Islam isn't a race. Are you ill-educated as well as bigoted?

You won;t se Europe islamified: have you not looked into how RC countries such as Italy are?

I don;t like Halal either, I don;t like lots in different faiths or indeed in otehr sectors- I don;t automatically dismiss the whole thing as a result.

As for Islamophobia- it's been a term for ages. We used it in uni, and I graduated from my first degree in 2008. Because in fact, racism is about race not faith. Muslim does not = Arab. Christian does not = european. They are different things.

MargaretGraceBondfield · 14/01/2011 18:21

Talk about a spanner in your own works, Riven. Noone wants this country to go backward and trust a ancient story to guide how we view things, fucking hell. I would rather go back to being pagan.

Flats and shops are okay, yes. why not, it's only bricks and mortar.

'I do not like seeing churches, our heritage being turned into mosques.'

I do - the best way to preserve a building is to find another use for it, and keeping it as a place of worship will promote preservation more than turning it into flats or a nightclub.

surprised you think Islamophobe is a new buzzword btw - it's been around at least 20 years.

ReclaimingMyInnerPeachy · 14/01/2011 18:26

If a Church becomes a Mosque it is because no Christians wanted it: plain fact. That is down to Christians and not Muslims surely?

I know a few Churches that have become Synagogues: interstingly they get very little hassle, I assume becuase they have the same face colour in the main to the stereotypes of Christians that people have (A joke given that it is the local black community saving our Church but anyway)

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 14/01/2011 18:31

isn't there a Huguenot (sp?) church in the East End that became a synagogue and is now a mosque?

ReclaimingMyInnerPeachy · 14/01/2011 18:34

I didn't know that Seth, sounds about right though.

The only way to keep churches Christian is to attend them. I rarely do, for a multiple of reasons, so I am equally to blame- but the Church doesn't sell a church for fun, only for lack of use.

Besides, despite my won Christanity (or becuase of?) I struggle to worry: One amn's Abrahamic faith is another man's obsessively delineated branch system claiming supremacy I guess.

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 14/01/2011 18:39

I saw it on some architecture programme I think. Or maybe something about Spitalfields?
In that instance the reason why the building was no longer needed by each group was the success of each wave of immigrants, as they moved out of the East End to posher parts of London. So in some ways the church being passed on to the next group was a happy thing as well as a sad one.

compfan · 14/01/2011 19:24

Here is a vid of St Johns church in Manchester being converted into a mosque. The grave yard of hard working Victorians is being destroyed to make way for a car park. you can seen smashed pieces of gravestone amongst the rubble.

REST IN PEACE NOT!

p.s the person on the vid is none other than the BNP candidate who stood in Oldham.

ReclaimingMyInnerPeachy · 14/01/2011 19:28

The graveyard of teh church where I used to live was built over for a road. Are you opposed to roads, or just Mosques?

Do you think the hard working Victorians know? Becuase if not I struggle to get really upset; if you do tehn you are not really a Christian are you so why the moral outrage?

ReclaimingMyInnerPeachy · 14/01/2011 19:29

BNP are wankers.

ReclaimingMyInnerPeachy · 14/01/2011 19:35

Oh that video- ffs

My God live sin me, and he is the love I can show to otehrs (reagrdless of tehier own faith)

He is love; the bible states that.(1 John 4:8).

He is not hate or fear. He is also not a building or a concrete block. There is more God in an open field than a church if the field is where the people practice love.

I am a Christian; I ahve read the Qur'an, Bhagavad gita, jain scripts, Guru Granth Sahib, many of the books of the Buddhist canon.

I have a degree in world faiths.

And I find that tehre is far more love and tehrefore god in those books than in any work of the BNP or other racist organisations.

In fact ther BNP serve one true purpose: to give proof yto the fact that there are idiots in all faith systems.

ReclaimingMyInnerPeachy · 14/01/2011 19:36

Mt God lives in me

Must find those damned glasses!

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 14/01/2011 19:43

it is always disturbing watching a graveyard being destroyed whatever the reason; I watched bulldozers and diggers knocking down and moving all the old graves to make way for a bypass which was built next to our school.
Using this to make an anti-Muslim point seems fairly illogical though; do you think Christians have never destroyed graveyards for anything?

compfan · 14/01/2011 19:59

It does not surprise me that you lot are not bothered about graves being crushed for rubble for a car park for the new mosque.

Nothing more than a bunch of airhead liberals. Its your kids that will have to live in the mess you are creating.

KalokiMallow · 14/01/2011 20:31

compfan You really are a twat aren't you?

I think we can safely say we all fear/dislike extremists of all religions/views, except it seems you don't.

Just Muslims.

I'd love to live in a world where all religions and non-religions were equal. And no one threw a temper tantrum just because someone else wanted to practise their faith. Can you say the same?

MargaretGraceBondfield · 14/01/2011 21:08

Complan; Who is selling these grave sites?

And if you read this thread you may notice that most people here would condemn acts of extremism.

OP posts:
kate1956 · 14/01/2011 22:01

Given that the edl has threatened to blow up the mosque in luton on feb 5th it seems that there are extremists of all sorts. But then Complan presumably identifies with these sort of thinkers!

And despite the Islamophobia of the American press initially immediately after the Oklahoma bombing, Timothy McVeigh turned out to be a Christian, as is Jared Loughner.

Riven's post of 08.57 is the best as it presents the reality of life for most people - Jews, Muslims, Christians or whatever.
