great story

Isn't it brilliant, a fabulous story that I can't remember being on the front page of any Newspaper.

Fantastic. ANd heart warming.

MargaretGraceBondfield · 13/01/2011 10:36

It wasn't picked up by the press here was it?

OP posts:
AMumInScotland · 13/01/2011 10:55

That's wonderful - I don't think there was any mention of it here at all, though there was mention of increased police security round the churches. Solidarity!

MyrrhyBS · 13/01/2011 10:58

It is incredible, how fantastic!

ThisIsANiceCage · 13/01/2011 11:00

Oh how wonderful! Thank you for sharing that!

MargaretGraceBondfield · 13/01/2011 11:01

Perhaps we should start a Twitter campaign or fb to get this front page news,

Lizzylou · 13/01/2011 11:04

How wonderful and yes, very heartwarming.
Why didn't we know about that?

MmeLindt · 13/01/2011 11:06

I read that on Twitter, such a great story. No idea why it was not picked up here.

And why are underlined in green, Margaret? Are you posh?

BeenBeta · 13/01/2011 11:15

This a wonderful piece of news.

Interesting it took place in Egypt. I worked for an Egyptian man and he was brought up by strict Catholics. He had an unusual quality I have seen in other Egyptian people of being comfortable in holding the Muslim, Christian and secular view of the world in his head all of the time. Speaking Arabic, English and French he was widely regarded as an honest broker between Arab and Western people.

Good on the Egyptian people. With more political freedom Egypt could be a significant force for good in that region.

MargaretGraceBondfield · 13/01/2011 11:16

I have no idea, I haven't messed with the settings.....perhaps it is my new activity on Twitter....I may have retweeted you actually!Blush

MmeLindt · 13/01/2011 11:23

Who are you on Twitter? Can you tweet me so I know? (If you want to)

coatgate · 13/01/2011 11:25

I think I may have heard something about this on Radio 4. Great story.

TwoIfBySea · 13/01/2011 13:27

Muslim extremists, if you were to believe the media, are everywhere, don't trust Muslims as far as you can throw them so on and so forth...

Then this...

Not so much as a mention as far as I've seen and certainly not as big an emphasis put over what I can assume is the true nature of the majority of Muslims.

Had they protested against the Christians we would have then heard all about it.

Now at last I can show my dts something positive rather than negative as Muslims are pretty much the bogeyman of their generation.

MargaretGraceBondfield · 13/01/2011 13:43

You'd think the press would have grabbed this opportunity, maybe not the DM but The Guardian, Independent?

OP posts:
ThisIsANiceCage · 13/01/2011 14:27

Hmm, this and this were all I could find on the Beeb (tho I find their search impenetrable).

Seriously underreported story. I've prodded Channel 4 News through their general Contact Us link.

We really need more stories like this to be taken up by the press.

MargaretGraceBondfield · 13/01/2011 15:31

Perhaps we should appoint someone who is a regular in philosophy/religion section to feed us stories that the press miss?

Or pledge to always put these in the news somewhere?

www.persecution.org/2011/01/09/islamic-countries-are-top-persecutors-of-christians/

BEFORE YOU ALL GET TO EXCITED.

ThisIsANiceCage · 13/01/2011 15:54

Thanks compfan, I couldn't agree with you more that's it's really important NOT TO CONTINUALLY SHOW JUST ONE SIDE OF THE STORY.

MargaretGraceBondfield · 13/01/2011 16:16

I'm sure there's a Muslim site somewhere with the opposite information. Humans are all pretty awful.

OP posts:
compfan · 13/01/2011 17:16

If you're that sure wheres the link then. I'd be very interested to read about Christians bombing mosques, arresting muslims for blasphemy etc. I think you might take a while as it doesn't happen.

MargaretGraceBondfield · 13/01/2011 20:17

Well, seems like the internet can't find anyBlush. But this is an act of kindness by some Muslims, the same Muslims that are tarred with the 'evil murdering suicide bomber' brush.

OP posts:
compfan · 13/01/2011 20:59

Thats because it is about as much a problem as lack of sand in the Sahara.

Go to youtube.com and type as a search

christian muslim persecution, all you will find is video after video of the most brutal disgusting crimes against Christians in muslim lands from Southern Sudan to Pakistan.

KalokiMallow · 14/01/2011 00:16

compfan Muslim extremists aren't the same as all Muslims.

And there are Christian extremists. The KKK I believe say they are acting on "Christian beliefs", in the same was Muslim extremists are acting on what they call "Muslim beliefs".

If you bother to pay any attention to history as well, you will find that the majority of religions have had vile behaviour carried out on their behalf.

So basically, unless you are happy to say that all Christians are represented by the KKK or (closer to home) the IRA (acting in the name of Catholicism apparently), then you cannot say that all Muslims are represented by extremists.
