Hi all I am just posting this in order to keep Joannes name in the public domain- This case is very mysterious and so far the police have no real leads although her parents suspect she has been abducted!

The link is below-

It's now a murder investigation.

LetThereBeRock · 28/12/2010 12:04

Cause of death, compression of the neck.

I was hoping, against the odds, that it might be natural causes. Her death is awful either way,but it's even more terrible to think that someone deliberately ended her life.Sad

IAmReallyFabNow · 28/12/2010 12:05

Poor poor girl and her family Sad.

I hope they can resolve this and get some answers for her family asap.
Someone must have seen something.

MeUnscrabbly · 28/12/2010 12:15

There are so many cctv cameras on the suspension bridge that surely they'll be able to find something, if that's the route he took Sad

It's scary being in Bristol now, I'm not in Clifton but I'm really not that far away and I have a teenaged daughter who now won't be allowed off the leash too much, and certainly won't be out after dark unless I know exactly where she is and that she's indoors somewhere.

OrangeCountyStrip · 28/12/2010 12:16

Oh poor girl. Rest in peace. Sad

The police didn't want to give much away at all did they.

Really, really sad. I hope they are onto it.

MollieO · 28/12/2010 12:16

How awful. I was wondering if she had been running and was the victim of a hit and run. Her poor family. Someone must have seen something and with so much CCTV hopefully it is only a matter of time before the murderer is caught.

This is an heinous crime. Heartfelt condolences to her family. As a mother I despair. My greatest fear is that my daughter may one day be in peril and I will not be there to protect her.

OrangeCountyStrip · 28/12/2010 12:20

Just to clarify what was said:

they think she had been there for several days, under heavy snow.

they said she was fully clothed.

they think she returned to the flat as her belongings were there (hopefully they have considered someone could have put those back afterwards, to make it look like she left them there herself)

they want people to get in touch with ANY information even if they assume the police already have it...better to be told twice than not at all.

So if anyone did see anything - please email them or call them. The police website is linked at the bottom of BBC news pages.

LetThereBeRock · 28/12/2010 12:20

I did think if it was murder then it was likely to be death by strangulation,as they said there were no obvious wounds, and it's one of the most common methods of death with female murder victims.

Her poor parents. They're going to have that thought in their heads near constantly, now that they know she was murdered.
What she must have gone through I can't imagine.Sad

LetThereBeRock · 28/12/2010 12:23

It must be terrifying to be in that area,Unscrabbly.

Hopefully the police will find the guilty party soon, because a lot of people won't feel comfortable with going out until they do,and also to put him where he belongs.

OrangeCountyStrip · 28/12/2010 12:34

Oh and crucially, her boyfriend Greg Reardon is NOT being treated as a suspect but as a witness.

winnybella · 28/12/2010 12:36

Would they say if he was?

LetThereBeRock · 28/12/2010 12:38

I don't think it's uncommon for someone to be treated as a witness at first, and later as a suspect.

That's not to say that he's guilty. The odds are that it was someone close to her,but that could be a number of people. And again it might have been a stranger.

OrangeCountyStrip · 28/12/2010 12:39

I think they are obliged to.

He was asked directly at the conference and said very clearly and immediately that the boyfriend was not a suspect.

OrangeCountyStrip · 28/12/2010 12:40

x posts - I mean if he were formally a suspect they would be obliged to say so.

He could ebcome a suspect later on but I would have thought it would have been easy enough to rule him our using alibis.

He was many miles away from the area when she disappeared - and if this was in question they'd have been onto it by now.

Saying that the DCI seemed either very reluctant to talk about anything, or else just didn't know anything...he didn't inspire confidence imo but then he could be a dark horse.

wannaBe · 28/12/2010 12:42

presumably they wouldn't make a statement either way if he was being treated as a suspect, because if he was then arrest would obviously follow in time.

MummieHunnie · 28/12/2010 12:44

People who give alibi's for relatives, have been known to bend the truth in the past.

PercyPigPie · 28/12/2010 12:45

How horrible. What a terrifying way to die Sad. That will haunt her family for ever. Glad she wasn't sexually assaulted though.

She didn't look unlike Melanie Hall, or Melanie Road, both blondes murdered in the South West at about the same time I think.

IAmReallyFabNow · 28/12/2010 12:45

He said he was being treated as a witness. That isn't the same as saying he isn't a suspect.

MeUnscrabbly · 28/12/2010 12:45

They'd know if he were actually miles away because they can track mobile phones. It isn't a perfect science but everytime your phone connects itself to a local radar (sorry, can't think of the name, a station that sends out signals is what I mean) a record is kept of that connection and can pinpoint the position of the phone to within a few miles depending on how many radar things there are in the area. I know this because I tracked my dd this way when she did a runner a while back.

SlartyBartFast · 28/12/2010 12:46

we might never know. or not know for years

LetThereBeRock · 28/12/2010 12:46

A woman,Suzanne Pilley, disappeared in Edinburgh about six months or so ago,the police are convinced that she was murdered and dumped in a forest in Argyll, unfortunately they've yet to find her remains.

I'm sure in that case her ex lover was considered as a witness at first, but was arrested a month or so after her disappearance.
