I haven't led a blameless life. Pre-children I indulged in a few 'chemical experiments.' But since having the boys, the thought of being unable to cope with them being taken to hospital in the middle of the night doesn't work for me. I've had a fair few nights on the vino, but I've always had a sober Mr Bubble around to drive and deal with things if required.

If this is true, I don't know how she can do it.

I'm sure her nanny or her ex could deal with things, but getting a call when you're out of your mind would be a no-no for me.

Or am I being a sanctimonious cow? Is the nanny or her ex the equivalent of my sober Mr Bubble?

did you see that programmed where she rented some lovely house in the country and totally trashed it? It was filthy when the owners came in and took possession. I think she's pretty but a bit trashy and dare I say it ....common (runs and hides and immediately regrets saying it)

Earlybird · 16/09/2005 20:06

Interesting that there has been no comment from her or her publicist. Evidence must be so damning that there is nothing to say (haven't seen the newspaper reports). I wonder if this will affect her ability to travel internationally/clear immigration. It's also possible that Burberry, Dior and others will give her the boot. Not exactly the sort of reputation they will be happy about associating with their brand names.

monkeytrousers · 16/09/2005 20:26

I don't really care about Kate Moss but I think there are plenty of parents who take drugs (legal or illegal ones) very responsibly - as many people drink responsibly anyway. Having a line or two of coke will leave you in a very different state than having a skinful of alcohol.

I know alot of people who have taken and still take drugs, none of the ones I know over 30 are addicts or binge on them (they found their limits in their twenties like the rest of us do with alcohol) and yes, some of them are parents. They are all good people and fantastic parents. It seems alot of people are damning here out of ignorance on a strictly black and white perspective. And no, I haven't used coke myself and the only drug to affect my life negatively has been alcohol.

Miaou · 16/09/2005 20:28

Apparently TigerLily used to co-sleep with Paula, and woke up to find her dead in bed. She rang a friend of Paula's, sobbing "I can't wake mummy up"

That will stay with me for ever

Agree with Fio re Paula Yates. The Times had profiled her for their 'life in the day' series and printed it in full after she died. It was heart-breaking. She evidently had such love for her girls, but everything else in her life had just fallen apart. The last sentence of the piece was something like "before I go to bed I take a dose of sleeping pills and wonder if they will work this time".

Thomcat · 16/09/2005 20:41

You're hardsly likey to be dating Pete and be anti-drugs are you!
If she has a serious problem, well she'll get help now, she'll go into re-hab and maybe stay clean, but maybe not.
One things for sure if she wants a career she'll be forced by those around her to never see Pete again.

aloha · 16/09/2005 20:43

Monkeytrousers, she is also dating a heroin addict. Would you like your two year old child to stay with your partner if he was dating a hopeless heroin addict, when you knew he also carried around wads of cocaine? I wouldn't.

bubble99 · 16/09/2005 20:52

This may be un-sistaly of me, but I feel for her ex, Jefferson Snack (or whatever.) He has (allegedly) been trying to gain custody of his daughter. And I agree that one line of coke in a night will render someone a lot more capable that someone after an evening of alcohol, but this was (allegedly) a lot of coke and a lot of booze. I feel let down by the 'mummy knows/can care best' attitude displayed by a lot of judges, when KM's daughter may well do better with her father than with a nanny.

I can't believe that this would affect her career negatively - the fashion press love her. There always seems to be one article or another charting her fabulous career/ magazine covers/ iconic look. And not many of those magazines will care about her role as a mother. Her image brings in so much revenue that they would forgive her anything

  • unless she got fat.
hatstand · 16/09/2005 20:57

am I the only one not remotely not for one second suprised? the only difference between the day before yesterday and now is there are pictures.

monkeytrousers · 16/09/2005 21:01

No, I'm not defendng her Aloha, I agree she's hardly anyones idea of a good mothjer however you look at it, except that she 'provides' as in the masculine sense. Do you think she and Jefferson swapped gender roles? That would explain alot.

No, I'm simply saying that 'drugs' aren't 'bad', drug misuse is and that includes alcohol. A gfriend of mine died from drinking too much, he was a strict anti-drugs kind of guy. I'm only mentioning it because anecdotally it can work both ways. Statistically, alcahol is the bigger killer.

Blu · 16/09/2005 21:03

I have no sympathy with the fact that she threw herself into a lifestyle with an out of control heroine addict when she had responsibility for a baby daughter. I hate the whole galmorisation of her life. Maybe this is a turning point from the 'oh look isn't it brillliant, she is a mum but still parties like a maniac' line.
Did you see the documentary about bad tennants? She rented a country house from an elderly couple and absolutely wrecked it.

monkeytrousers · 17/09/2005 10:07

I agree Blu. I also should have said drugs aren't bas per se. There are some drugs which are very bad, heroin for one and of course the industry that surrounds them isn't nice either, but that?s a political issue.

I mean take for instance the trials for marijuana (sp?) for people with MS etc. I worked as a PA for a woman with MS in my first year of uni and one of my tasks was to roll her spliffs. As soon as she took a puff her whole boy relaxed, he palsy in her legs abated and her whole quality of life was improved. I don't understand the government when it says it's trying to develop a marijuana based drug but without the 'high'. It's the opiate effect that helps. It's like developing an alcoholic drink that doesn't get you drunk. Pop basically.

It's a different issue from KM I know but people do tend to get all Daily Mail about it.

monkeytrousers · 17/09/2005 10:08

her whole body relaxed. She didn't have a boy at all.

teeavee · 17/09/2005 10:21

apparently she's thick as sh*t

teeavee · 17/09/2005 10:24

actually, that is what bugs me most about KM - that she can make so much cash with no brain.
I mean, all she has to do is have make-up put on her face and move her head to one side or something, and bang! £50,000. I'm not surprised she's bored, but have no sympathy with her at all.

Plus, doherty is so unattractive and his music/supposed amazing talent incredibly over-rated

monkeytrousers · 17/09/2005 10:27

That's interesting Teeavee, cos she isn't an icon to men, is she? She's an icon to women. The cosmetics goddess? Men don't buy them, women do.

dropinthe · 17/09/2005 10:31

I read an article in the Daily Mail yesterday that she is a regular user and proud of it-she really can't see what all the fuss is about,(if you believe the DM).I must say she certainly LOOKS like she on some form of something-if it is coke and she is "sticking to one gram a day" her looks are going to get pretty ravaged soon and I would have thought no amount of make up will "airbrush" that lovely gaunt, sallow look that ladies who indulge in a bit of the old Peruvian inherit!
Will Chanel wan't her then?

teeavee · 17/09/2005 12:54

herimage is totally without substance and empty - 'clothes-horse' is exactly what she is
that's why make-up asrtists love her - her face is the ideal blank canvas apparently - I would add that her brain is too

donnie · 17/09/2005 18:47

agreed, teeavee, but then a lot of stupid people make lots of money in this world - look at wayne rooney!

TwoIfBySea · 17/09/2005 18:53

I thought it was heroin KM took (between the toes allegedly.) She wasn't the only skinny female celeb doing it either.

VB looks like shes made of wax, she could be renamed Scary Spice now. Her I feel sorry for, KM I don't.

MeerkatsUnite · 18/09/2005 08:40

I think KM is looking for two elusive somethings in her life and she cannot find it in whatever she does. This is happiness and contentment.

Despite all her money, child and fame (infamy) she is not happy and has not been for many years. People who take drugs/drink in large quantities are unhappy and they use this as a way to block the emotional pain/fear/anxiety out. These are the actions of some who is crying out for attention - be it positive or negative.

I think she is with Pete out of a desire to try to rescue and or save him from himself. Unfortunately it is all too clear that he is dragging her further down with him.

I have seen what cocaine does - it wrecks lives. It is not somehow less dangerous than other class A drugs.

If she really wanted to get clean then she would not go to the Priory and be photographed attending there. It may be "fashionable" etc to attend but it is not the centre for her.

The person I primarily feel for in all this sorry mess is her daughter. If this child comes out relatively unscathed from all her mum's sorry antics then I will consider said child fortunate.

alux · 18/09/2005 09:07

you know. I am such an innocent. when I first saw this thread a couple days ago, I thought it was about a song and a silly dance.

only saw her in the daily mail yesterday and realise now what you meant. (not that I read the mail [shudder emoticon])

triceratops · 18/09/2005 09:17

It seems to me that KM has an obsessive personality. This has contributed to her success in that she manages to be very thin and well groomed, but she has always smoked and probably always taken cocaine. It seems perfectly in character for her to have taken up with a trendy but dangerous man.

She does not seem to have taken to motherhood with the same intensity. I feel sorry for her daughter.
