Just strongly worded, but basically he was abusive and controlling (hence is the ex) he refused to return them after contact despite there being a contact order in place and somehow managed to lie his way through a hearing to get an interim residence order. Meaning I can see them for 8 hours every saturday and sunday and that's it for now. And they are in London with him, I'm in Yorkshire. Shower of shite.

btw - worked out why it was hard to gauge how many there were.

They did 12hr shifts apparently. And rather than coming back up, they just stayed down there when off shift and either slept or chatted to the miners.

Ah okay. But surely someone was counting how many they sent down!?

yes - but it was the media that didn't know how many - not the guys running the rescue operation
