There's no fooling an April fledgling flyer

Welcome to the April edition of the fledgling flyers where shower screens are shiny and rain never stops play.

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

This is what it's all about - Babysteps each day to try to get some order back into our home with LOADS of support from our regulars.

So join in! We start this thread on April 1st (no joke), but you are welcome to dive in at any point in the month.

Splish, splash, swish and swash along to reserve your place...

Slugbrains - nice to hear your evening cheered you up!

Ellie - I bet you're relieved about your mum!

Linzer - sounds like a lovely day. I've got plans for most of mine but I expect DS and I will end up in the garden when we get home as its a lovely day here too.

I managed to get through some paperwork last night and am feeling I will get it done in time - but I'm off to the office to do some more stuff while I have the chance.

I've also done plenty this morning, despite managing to sleep till 8.15!! (that's a record!):

  • washing on line
  • watered garden
  • bathroom swished and swiped
  • dishwasher on

There's something so uplifting about realising that you're going out and when you get home later there isn't a big pile of cleaning/washing/whatever to do!

DreamTeamGirl · 17/04/2010 18:10

Hey all

Life slowly getting back to normal here
Amid the random floods of tears and killer temper that is ... Its like having every dose of PMT I have ever had all in one hit!! Thank you for all your fab messages.

PA WTG on the ironing!!!!!! So impressed. Actually thats the name of the ironing shop near me 'Sew Impressed' as they do ironing and repairs. Clever huh?

DEM well done on a decision made which I am sure will be the right one for you

MM wouldnt things like a craft room & laundry room be fab? Wish I lived in a huge house

Chairmum I agree as you get used to doing routines it all falls together doesnt it? Like the swish & swipe that I avoided for years that now takes less than a minute

PW Possibly the only person NOT jealous of your hens. I hate birds. And dirt. And things that fly. (except you lovely lot of course) The putting themselves to bed bit sounds really cute tho

Ellie Softplay urghhh! Great fun on the right day, but on the wromg one, hell on earth

OM SCHOOL PLANNING. Consider yourself nagged

MissB Hope your mum is ok ((HUGS))

Linzer didnt realise you were far away. It sounds lovely- Outnumbered is on Iplayer if you can get that?

House etc all ok, daily routines mainly kept up
Need to be all back to normal next week, so thats the job for this weekend

Slugbrains · 17/04/2010 18:11

Right in the name of procrastination and the need to get my head in gear, i have used my trusty white board to help.

MissB- glad your mum is ok and that it is nothing too serious. How was dd1's concert?

Ellie - shame about soft play -it does get easier when they get bigger. Hope you had a better day today.

Linzertorte - did youenjoy your book in the garden?

Chairmum - did you get done what you wanted? Personally i yearn for that state of tidy, here is the site of a disaster and there is a long list looking at you when you walk in.

MiniM- glad you had a good day yesterday, hope today has been good.

Waves to all others who have been missed. Special wave to DTG, sending kind thoughts your way.

Right so far i have marked over half of the year 7 books. So should get year 7 and year 8 done tonight. Just year 9 and hunting out the paperwork tomorrow to do then.

Ds has had a lovely day with dsis and her bloke. But will go do some parenting before bedtime. I have been unwanted til now (he is getting tired). AS for muscle ache, not got too much today, am holding out judgement on how much there is until Monday. I suspect my muscles are still in shock

planning ahead:
sunday - finish all marking and pool stuff for return
Monday - return to school and transfer infor stuff, post office, training/skating in evening.
Tuesday - attack the bombsite and CV.

That is the plan and most of it is compulsory so will have to be done. Looking forward to Tuesday. Dreading monday.

Hope you are all off enjoying your weekends!

Smile the sun is shining!

!

optimisticmumma · 17/04/2010 21:11

Evening all
Thanks for the nags - you'll be pleased to know that I have done my planning and went to school to photocopy various bits soall is well.
I ended up with 16 for a full English. The cousins range from 4-17 so we find breakfast is a fantastic family meal. Everyone is in good form - we do it for each birthday and then the DC have friends at another time. DD is taking 7 out for pizza on Monday!
Well - DGrandma is grounded as her flight to South America is cancelled. It's her birthday tomorrow so instead of taking her to Gatwick and a quick Happy Birthday in Departures she is coming with her to watch DS1 in a National U17s Rugby final [proud mummy emoticon} . Unfortunately 2 of their best players are stranded abroad but there's every hope that , that will have affected their oposition too.
DHs trip to Asia is looking unlikely and he has rebooked for Thursday. The upside is he'll be here for DDs birthday but the downside is he will have to be on calls at 2 in the morning etc etc! Oh well
No real flying done but that lovely feeling that the house is reasonable wihtout huge effort - great!
have a lovely evening all....
Nightx

optimisticmumma · 17/04/2010 21:16

meant to say Grandma is coming with us to a National u17s Rugby semi final - getting ahead of myself!!!!!!!

MiniMarmite · 17/04/2010 21:20

Evening Ladies,

I'm feeling quite lazy so, since you've all done great round-ups anyway I'm just going to say hello .

I went shopping without DH or DS for the first time in about 6 months today. It was enjoyable but I was rather under pressure as I needed to find an outfit for a wedding next weekend...thankfully a very helpful shop assistant rescued me from my own very bad dress choices and steered me in the right direction, I think! I will be wearing a hat...I've never done that before - I will be like a real grown up!

Lovely and sunny here

Morning All

Today's babystep is a reading one for a Sunday .

Have a relaxing day x

OP posts:
Slugbrains · 17/04/2010 22:08

i love these, they are laminated and stuck to the back of the door. As such they are the second thing i see first thing in the morning. First usually being ds. I am going to fail the bedtime thing. decided to pull an all nighter to get the marking done and out of the way. enough is truely enough now and it must be done for return monday. Will then sleep tomo mornign and do something with ds tomo afternoon. Otherwise will have to do early tomo and late tomo too. not up for that tbh. but knackered so will have to see.

purplewednesday · 17/04/2010 23:09

Have done nothing in the house today. Went to the local horse trials for the day (they were all guilty....!!)

Kitchen looks like a bomb has hit it but thanks to baby still waking 3 x night I am off to bed now as i need to prioritise some sleep.

DTG DH hates the hens too. Well, he says he does but i keep finding him outside talking to them. Perhaps he is asking them to eat the sage.

Chairmum- when is baby due?

PA- a mum of 5!! Big respect! I am knackered with 2.

Wishing everyone a nice relaxing sunday lie-in!

Make me do some stuff in the house tomorrow......

purplewednesday · 17/04/2010 23:11

Have just looked at the reading babystep - the 11 commandments.

Looks like I have failed on number 4.......

MrsDinky · 17/04/2010 23:57

Me too!

Have been on here for an hour and a half, spent £100 (mostly on Ocado), but should be in bed.

Just wanted to say hello to everyone, I have been reading the thread, but for some reason (the weather, the school holidays?) have been very slack with my flying lately, and not felt I had much of interest to chat about (the highlight of this week was the look on DD's face when a giant tortoise pushed her over at a local animal sanctuary!).

Determined to get back on track now, I really am going to sort out my control journal now, been putting it off for ages.

Night night all

Slugbrains · 18/04/2010 05:41

Morning!

Coffee is on, tea is in pot. You might have to reheat or refresh depending on what time you wake up.

No lie in here. Marking marathon.
Soooooo shouldnt have left it to last minute.

Slugbrains · 18/04/2010 07:08

Year 7 done.
Fresh pots of coffee and tea on.

elliepac · 18/04/2010 07:41

Thanks for the coffee slugbrains, much needed this morning, just can't wake up for some reason. Did you pull an all-nighter or just get up really early? I still have to do my coursework marking ready for moderation tomorrow, just know I will be there late tonight!

Not sure what I am going to do today apart from aforementioned marking. DH went out last night so I suspect will be in bed for most of day nursing a hangover although will let him off as he doesn't go out very often.

Back later when I have decided what to do with myself.

LinzerTorte · 18/04/2010 07:57

Good morning!

I would have joined you earlier for coffee Slugbrains if I'd known you were already (still?) up - I decided to have a lie-in this morning and got up thinking it was about 8 am, only to discover it was 6.40 (so 5.40 UK time). Still, I managed to get one of my translations finished before everyone else got up so it's been quite a good start to the day really.

DTG Yes, I'm in Austria - so we can't get iPlayer here as we're outside the UK (there are ways round it apparently, but I haven't looked into them as my parents are very good about recording things for us on DVD).
Btw I don't like birds either (I have a phobia of dead ones in fact); my ILs used to keep hens and I can't say I was sorry to see the back of them (though I do miss the eggs!).

OM Hope you enjoy the rugby match and that it goes the way you want it to! My dad and brother are big fans, though only go to matches occasionally - they can watch it on TV for hours on end though!

purplewednesday I struggle with the 4th commandment too. And with going to bed at a decent hour (not entirely unrelated...)

I don't think I'll be getting much flying done today as I still have work to do and am also hoping to fit in a visit to the thermal baths with the DDs (DS will be out at a friend's). I'll have to try to get back on track tomorrow.

Have a good day everyone!

Slugbrains · 18/04/2010 09:23

Fresh pots of coffee and tea for the late risers.

year 8 books marked

Just to finish year 8 tests and year9 course work now. it is a possibility of getting done at a semi reasonable time although saying that it will now take forever to do year 9.

Ellie/Linzertorte sort of an all nighter. went to bed at 2am got up at 4:30am (alarm went off at 4am)

LinzerTorte · 18/04/2010 10:27

I've finally got round to putting some coffee on here; another cup, Slugbrains? Am now enjoying some peace and quiet as DH said he would take the DDs swimming on his own so I could get on with some work, so I have a few hours to get as much done as possible before DS gets back.

You're much more understanding than I am, elliepac. I tend to get slightly annoyed about the fact that DH can just stay off work and take to his bed whenever he's ill whereas I have to struggle on no matter what, which is highly unreasonable I know. But if it was actually self-inflicted, well... Luckily his drinking days seem to be over.

Slugbrains · 18/04/2010 11:34

Thank you for coffee. Year 9 marking abandoned. realised i had no idea what i was doing with it. So appologise will have to go out the that teacher.

Going to tidy up now as have til 1pm boy free.

Hope you are all enjoying the weather.

elliepac · 18/04/2010 11:43

Thanks for coffee linzer still struggling to wake up here and have only just got round to morning routine type stuff. Still haven't decided what to do today, though as it's so late I think we may just relax in the garden in this lovely spring sunshine.

Well done for doing all that marking slugbrains, I hate marking with a passions, know it's got to be done to help progress blardy blah however if there is one thing I am very sure I could be sacked for it's lack of marking . (sorry to anyone who is on here who's child I happen to teach, )

LinzerTorte · 18/04/2010 12:58

You're very welcome Slugbrains and ellie. I'm forcing myself to wait until after lunch for my next coffee, although I'm feeling much more awake now anyway. Just trying to decide whether to carry on with my morning routine while everyone is still out or to have some lunch. All that coffee (plus some leftover pains au chocolat from breakfast ) has filled me up so I think I'll go and hang out the washing - even if it does look rather cloudy... Please send over some of your sunny weather!

teamcullen · 18/04/2010 15:08

Slugbrains and Elliepac if it makes you feel any better, DD is in Y9, has still got loads of revision to do (last day of hols ) and Ive never heard her complain that her teacher hasnt marked her work. Make yourself a cup of tea in the knowledge that all your students havent finnished their homework either.

Ive been busy this morning. The new washing machine arrived this morning and hasnt been off since. Im trying to juggle doing all kinds of jobs instead of just getting one job done properly.

Its clouded over here this afternoon. But Im still going to try and get some gardening done.

Tea first though, no biscuits Ive got to be good.

Slugbrains · 18/04/2010 19:33

Productive afternoon here. Car contains mostly emptied. Car outside wash and fluids topped up. I have almost discovered my floor by means of the box stuff that needs looking and whilst chucking and recycling what can be done. Have sorted through 2 bags of pcge stuff. only two more to go. Need to make sure everything is ready to go as i want to get over early so that i can get rid of the stuff and then sleep tomo. I am also working my way through mount washmore. so will have mount foldmore and mount ironmore to deal with tomo.

Monday is going to be rest day as at risk of burnout. SO appologies am going to finish getting stuff done.

MrsDinky · 18/04/2010 20:03

Evening all,

Spent today with DCs at a friend's house while DH tackled some heavy gardening jobs, came back and spent an hour or two after tea doing lots of planting and repotting while DH played with the DCs, therefore not much flying but the garden looks good.

Slugbrains - was it you who made your own water feature? What was it like? We want to make some sort of fountain without a pond, just a little thing for a sunny corner. We had a pebble fountain which was beautiful but impossible to keep the water clean underground, it used to get really smelly, so DH has dug it all out today and refilled the ground, want something where the water is easy to change!

Off now to watch Come Dine with Me and plan ahead for tomorrow, busy day ahead with all after school activities resuming.

Night night

Slugbrains · 18/04/2010 20:19

Was me. it is wooden tub with plastic trug liner. AM hoping to add some chemicals to the water to help keep it clean. just waiting to see how reliable ds is with it. Will post some pictures tomo or tues if i remember/ have time. Need to get some new batteries for the camera. It is not the fanciest, but i like it and the main cost is the pump so if you still have yours it will reduce the costs considerabley

purplewednesday · 18/04/2010 22:10

Ooh thermal baths sound lovely linzertorte

Have done bugger all again today but my friend was staying for the weekend with her DD who is my goddaughter.I did manage to paint a load more of the fence with woodstain though. Only the gate left to do now.

Will be up early for the school run so see you all for tea and toast in the morning!

Must do some babysteps tomorrow....
