just made a really yum dinner with no effort
Leftover gammon chopped up and put in a dish with mushrooms, frozen peas, creme fraiche and black pepper. Puff pastry on top and shoved in oven or 30 mins or so. Thought it was going to be bland but was really yum.

FlamingoBingo · 03/02/2010 18:38

Hello

I have been recommended this thread by some of my friends on the shiney thread. May I join you?

I can see you all write lists, but could someone explain in more detail what you do?

Do you post your lists several times a day, adding more 'dones' as you go?

JustKeepSwimming · 03/02/2010 18:45

Hi Flamingo & welcome
We don't have rules as such (well the only 'rule' is don't post too many completed lists in a row or we'll kick you over to Fly ) - just do whatever suits you.
Some days i post my list lots to make me feel i've done more
Others days i'm actually doing stuff so too busy to post, lol.

FreakoidOrganisoid · 03/02/2010 18:46

Hello

No real rules tbh, just post a list of everything you need to get done that day (make sure you include the real basics like getting up so that even if you do nothing it looks like you have ) and then mark done next to things once you've done them.

Most of us seem to update a couple of times a day, if I am having a real can't be arsed day and need to get lots done I tend to update after every one or two things just because ticking them off spurs me on iyswim.

I'm quite bad for just chatting rather than actually updating though...

PlumBumMum · 03/02/2010 18:48

yeap flamingo, because if your like me I forget to come back at the end and update

some of us put down things we have already done, or obvious stuff like washed dressed etc, so we can see some dones

Sometimes we post long term goals on big lists like DIY etc, just to keep it in our minds

welcome

FreakoidOrganisoid · 03/02/2010 18:49

can anyone help re sweaty dd?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 03/02/2010 19:26

Welcome Flamingo

HMHB - we can't even do that - no kids allowed anywhere at the wedding venue. The hotel where everyone is staying is about 10/15 mins down the road.
for you as well, people seem to think that the entire world should bend over backwards for their wedding.

Freak - I have not added you yet, I will do it as soon as I have posted this message!

Had a nice day with my Mum, we cut DS' hair! It was getting too long at the back but not growing so fast on top so he was in danger of developing a mullet!

TODAY
Me and DH up - done
Shower and dressed - done
Get DS up and dressed - done
Spatone + vitamins - done
Breakfast and tidy kitchen - done
Make beds and tidy upstairs - done
Wipe over bathroom - done
Pack bag for day - done

FlamingoBingo · 03/02/2010 19:31

Thanks for the welcome!

Ali! Nice to see you here!

Ok, I am definitely going to try to get on here in the morning to write my list for tomorrow...or might do it tonight, in fact, to get my head straight. Been having a lot of black dog days and if I don't have a plan, I just get lost in them.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 03/02/2010 19:46

Flamingo - doing lists the night before is definitely a good plan, I find I sleep better and get going better in the mornings if I have a plan. As you know, I know exactly how you feel about the black days, and this thread has been huuugely helpful to me

FlamingoBingo · 03/02/2010 19:54

Ok, my list is scarily long, but that's because I've put in lots of things I know I'll do to make me feel better when I get to put a 'done' by them!

I have someone coming over at 11am for lunch to talk about home ed (as in she wants to know more as she wants to do it when her 2yo is of compusory education age!), so not sure whether to do the things I normally do before a visitor comes, or let her see an HE house in all it's chaotic glory? Thoughts?

Anyway:

AM

Shower
Get dressed
Brush nice newly cut hair
Eat breakfast
Get chicken out of the freezer for supper
Get children dressed
Get children breakfasted
Get DD1 to practice recorder
Get DD1 to practice handwriting
Hang up nappies
Hang up washing
Put on dark wash
?tidy up
Put dishwasher on
Clear away breakfast things and wipe table
Bake bread with DD3
?make soup or walk all three to the shop to buy soup and/or ham if there's time

PM (after visitor has left)

Get DD1 on mathletics and/or education city
Get DD2 on education city
Play catch (I'm crap at playing with the children so I'm thinking if I list it, I'll do it!)
Empty and re-fill dishwasher
Clear away lunch things and wipe table
Mumsnet while DDs watch a film and DD4 sleeps
Do something active - wii, walk or dancing with DDs
Get supper started at 6.15pm

Phew! This'll kick black dog's arse!

JustKeepSwimming · 03/02/2010 19:58

Ali - i'd be so tempted to just not go at all, but i suppose he is your brother...guess you all stay in the hotel down the road, you pop to the ceremony, toasts, etc, then go back to the hotel for a nice night away with DH & DS?

Flamingo - i prefer to get tomorrow's list ready the night before, even if i change it the next day as plans change.

Freak - i have no idea about your DD, sounds odd. will look in again later to see if you've got any more useful advice.

Think DH & I do 'tired' in different ways, i'm in pjs on sofa with blanket, wine & pringles. He's on train, wants to get takeaway and sit in the kitchen to chat...
He always comes home so much more 'hyper' than me!

Wed:

  • remember to book a restaurant for Sat NotDone!
  • my dinner & collapse DoingCollapsingLol
  • DH home OnTrainCollectingTakeaway

Thurs:

JustKeepSwimming · 03/02/2010 20:02

Well done Flamingo, good list!

So, tell us more about you, you HE? good on you, pretty sure i couldn't
and you have 4 DDs??? wow. Plans for more?

FlamingoBingo · 03/02/2010 20:10

No, no more DCs for now, Swimming

HE is fun, but as we have no structure because I think what they call autonomous learning is best, on black dog days I kind of get lost in the swirling mass of unmotivation. So I need at least a routine for myself - a plan of things I can be doing that the DDs can dip in and out of. They're very young still though - DD1's practicing her recorder because she wants a clarinet for her 7th birthday in May, and she is doing a lot of writing now, and she and I thought some handwriting practice would help ensure she didn't consolidate any of her bad habits. She forgets to do it if I dont' remind her though!

I'm looking foward to getting to know you all and joining in more here. Now how am I going to keep up with two long-standing threads?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 03/02/2010 21:28

FB - Don't worry, we don't go at anything like the pace of you lot on Shiney - it's why I don't post there, I could never keep up!

Heating back on - Hurrah!
Much better day today.

Ali/Plum - I can't believe 3 of us on this one thread are being messed about by other peoples weddings . My mum says they are all selfish .

Unfortunately we can't not go to the wedding in May as it is my best friend from school. They have no kids so no idea of the hassle it causes.
The annoying thing is we have to drop off DS at grandparents then drive for 4/5 hours with baby DD, go to the wedding, then drive back and get DS the next day! Exhausting or what. More problems in that DH is a teacher therefore we can't drive on the Friday as he can't get time off.

I'm going to worry about it nearer the time, can't be bothered with it at the minute.

Tomorrow
Breakfast
Clear away breakfast things
DS to school
Pilates/walk
Vitamins
Rubbish out
Recycling
Make beds
Food shop
Put shopping away
Lunch
Bring logs in
Light woodburner
put washing on
put washing to dry
Washing folded and put away
tidy kitchen
empty dishy
reload dishy
filing!
dinner
bath DD/DS
DD/DS to bed
tidy bedroom
put toys away in lounge

also
Pay DS's dinner money done
Write meithrin nursery donation letters
admin/post
pay money into DD's account
Speak to builders re ridiculous quote for wall
thank you cards!!! donex2
Pick up stuff from laundry and put away
Get photos printed
Buy new address book and fill in
