Everyone welcome!

Here you can, for one month:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

As we are coverning more ground, to avoid confusion, I'll be posting links early in the morning on the relevant day.

Good luck!

Hi pushmepullyou
Oh yes do join in. Dont worry if you cant do sink- maybe just clean the area around it, then clean it when you can.

Shoppingveggie · 05/10/2009 17:26

Hi everyone

Your bag does sound lovely DTG and please don't get me started on Radley's - I just love the signature bags..... anyway that's another thread I guess .

Didn't do all my list (see I told you ellipac ) - got chatting to a mum from school and by time I got in only had time to do some ironing and a quick clear up in the kitchen.

I have though been good since getting in from school and do aim to do lots tomorrow - especially as chiropodist is coming here in the afternoon!

Again, sorry to repeat but I am in awe of how much effort so many of you put into your posts - this is a lovely thread.

stepaway · 05/10/2009 17:43

hellsbelles and ctgh
it's funny how much you can get done when someone else is there and you can't escape!! when my mum visits me from overseas, i ask her to make me declutter at least one cupboard! she gets herself a cup of tea and has a seat while i get on with the decluttering. works wonderfully! i am embarassed that it takes that to make me do it but hey, if that's what it takes, so be it...

EverySingleStar · 05/10/2009 18:53

I have done wayyyyy too much today and have burnt out

Started with clearing second bedroom - put loads up on freecycle (good)...chucked out lots (good)...needed to put some in storage so then took everything out of storage room and did an overhaul (this is where it started to go wrong)...

Then the kitchen needed reorganising, so I swapped things around...

Then the lounge had piles of clothes in chairs so I took them upstairs, but was too exhausted to do anything with them so...

Our bedroom is a holy reck, shit is just everywhere, clothes, books, towels, bedding, etc. etc.

But, the second bedroom is clear although needs a good hoover, the storage cupboard is neat and tidy, the lounge is clean, and have loads awaiting new freecyclers.

Soooo tired now though and I won't want to do anything tomorrow. Why do I have these manic-depressive house-cleaning episodes???

droitwichmum · 05/10/2009 19:00

What sort of day have we all had? Been in a meeting all day so not been able to keep up with everyone.

washing done and dried (thanks to DH)
clean kitchen bin done both
15 mins declutter in kitchen (window sill I think today)- will do once DS in bed. DH working tonight so have a free run
shine sink - after declutter (forgot last night)

Will also iron washing before I get a mountain

I am in total awe of all of you who are pg or have more than 1 DC. I can't cope with one!

Countingthegreyhairs · 05/10/2009 19:19

Well done to all of you who are Flying with bumps or babies!! Hats off to you all!!

Don't worry Star - you did well!! The trick now is to sustain it - not the whole caboodle - just keep going with the few baby-steps .... If it's any consolation, this is something I still struggle with ie "all or nothing" cleaning and "all or nothing" attitude with regard to alot of other things too. I'm working on it and the Fat Fairy system is helping to temper my worst excesses ... honestly it does help!! Well done for today!!

A warm welcome to Pushmepullyou - just dive in!!

lol Stepaway - I wonder if a large cardboard cut-out of the Fat Fairy would have the same effect??

Anmar you've done plenty - sit down and enjoy!

Dreamteamgirl - when I click on your link the mission is in the kitchen. Is there something wrong with your computer clock perhaps? Maybe it is lagging one day behind (sounds a bit like me!! )

Sorry not to reply to each and every one of you but hope you have all had a productive day. If you haven't - don't worry - start again tomorrow.

Remember, little and often, gently does it ... (particularly Snitch!!)

waves to PA (am of your kitchen)

hope your puppy didn't mind the injection too much tibni

See you all!!

positiveattitudeonly · 05/10/2009 19:20

pushmepullyou - Hi, are you married to dr dolittle! and welcome!!

paranoiabigdestroyer - I am sure if I had walked past the lilac cloth it would have jumped screaming into my trolley, too. But how can you bring yourself to use it and make it all a dirty colour. I would get one for show and another to use!

DTG - I want your bag! And could I have got the posting thingy wrong this morning. I thought we were on kitchen, but maybe I am really sending everyone astray. Is it Living room?, but last week it was the porch/hall wasn't it? Sorry if I got it wrong. CTGH will know

Star - Babysteps. Just one thing at a time. You will run yourself ragged. Feet up, now and relax. start gently tomorrow, but it is so easy to get all enthusiastic for 5 mins isn't it!

HaG (no I can't call you the hag, can I???) Having a giraffe!!!! - GO on, get the journal. I really resisted for ages, but just use the bits you want to (and laugh at how organised others are!) I am just nosey, so it was great fun!! But I am now using mine and loving it!

Stepaway - I sure I could be a friend to your friend too, send her down here. A few bedrooms to sort, I am sure she'll love us!

Enough scrolling up and down for one night! Evening to everyone else. Have a good evening!

positiveattitudeonly · 05/10/2009 19:23

we x posts!!

havingagiraffe · 05/10/2009 19:51

Hello to all

Very quick for a bit of a brag!!

Cleaned out fridge and cleaned up 2 kitchen cupboards
Washing off line and kitchen left tidy after dinner.

I am going to do the zone thing this week.

walkthedinosaur · 05/10/2009 19:58

stepaway I need your DH, my DH promised to do our Bosky this weekend in time for it being relit for the cold days, but he was so wrapped up in decluttering the garage he forgot. I guess that will be his job next weekend. Although I'm not looking forward to it being relit as that will add another job of cleaning out the ash and relighting to my morning routine, plus of course the layer of soot that's going to be over the kitchen every morning for 4 months.

Well today I have:-
Changed DS1's bed and washed bedding
Did second load of washing - both on the airer in the house because it was raining this morning
Swished and swiped of course
Took DS1 to piano lesson after school
Did 10 mins piano practice with DS2
1 hour of homework with DS1
Cooked a dinner for the DC's
Have cleaned all the kitchen cupboard doors
Washed down the window sills and frames
Mopped kitchen floor and hallway floor

I'm so glad we're on the kitchen today, because my minging old fridge walked itself got chucked out this weekend so I don't have to clean it because I've got a nice shiny new one and DH thinks it's funny to rearrange my kitchen cupboards every weekend when he's home, so he always ends up tidying them anyhow.

I think we're all really flying well thanks so much to CTGH and PA for keeping us all motivated.

Right am off for a well deserved glass of Pinot Grigio I think.

madwomanintheattic · 05/10/2009 20:01

helllooo?
i looked at this fly thing last month and thought 'oh, i'll try that in october', and here i am, late again...

can i start now? we've just moved, i've unpacked boxes but got stuff everywhere, and i'm already behind on my laundry and ironing. and my sink is minging.

can someone refer me to a link to start on? or should i just wait for tomorrow's? there's no way i can plough through all ten pages of this thread to try and catch up but i need somewhere to start!

i'm 7 hours behind btw (literally, not metaphorically, although that too) so won't be around much uk day time, but really really need some help to sort out this house. i can't let it get into the state the last one was in althouhg it may be too late...

positiveattitudeonly · 05/10/2009 20:12

MWITA - Welcome.Come on in and jump in from today. Instead of being 7 hours behind, you could always be 13 hours ahead!

here's today's baby steps

here's tomorrow's

and here is the homepage where you might like to get some background info
Unless you want to be deluged with emails at hourly intervals, don't sign up for the emails!!

Good luck with your new house. I suppose you just need to get it all straight to start with, then tick over.

WTD - Cheers and a clink of glasses!!

elliepac · 05/10/2009 20:45

evening fledglings. Am just dropping in quickly to hang my head in shame. House is a pigsty, sink is filthy and not even babysteps complete. Have had a crappy day which culminated in car breaking down. This is just about the last thing i need as DH is in and out of work (joiner in construction industry...we have been well and truly credit crunched) and i am skint. aaaaaaaagh.

i have not the time to scroll through tonight so will just have to wave to everyone. I can't believe how quickly this thread is moving, when i check in every evening there's 2 or 3 pages to scroll through. It's fabulous i just wish i had mn at work so i didn't feel like i was missing out on everything.

See you tomorrow.

MiniMarmite · 05/10/2009 21:00

Hi Everyone, all busy again today I see

Elliepac don't beat yourself up, sounds like you've had a bad day, sounds like you need to put your feet up for a bit and then just give your sink a quick shine before going to bed (oh no, I sound like the big fat fairy)!

I'm glad we're onto the kitchen this week as that was the room on the declutter plan that DH and I made for this week. I started on saturday so I've also cleaned fridge and two cupboards. Having said that DH has stayed on the study area as we hadn't quite got the paperwork under contol .

My ironing pile is overflowing but I'm really tired today so think I will just do the essentials for tomorrow, a quick vacuum and sink shine and call it a day.

Snitch I hope you are taking it easy this evening, from what I remember you haven't got that long to go now.

HAGiraffe I missed handbags too so I got myself a change bag I love so much that I've been known to take it out when I don't have DS with me - it is a Lin and Leo one.

Welcome MWITA and PushmePullme and anyone else I've missed. Lot of enthusiastic waving to you all. Lots I wanted to say to individuals as I read their posts but I was about 3 pages behind and I've already written an essay but to summarise I'm really impressed at how well everyone is doing and it really inspires me to keep going

madwomanintheattic · 05/10/2009 21:08

okay - i'll start with tomorrow
i may be able to keep up if i start a day ahead of everyone else lol!

can i ask a dumb question -what are the 'reminders' of which the link speaks?

was this something from days 1-3?

i'm off to deal with a hot spot for two minutes... just which one to do, really... (dining table - decisive, eh.)

(it's a bit of a cheat to start with 'dressed to shoes' as it's just past lunch lol...)

MiniMarmite · 05/10/2009 21:15

Hi MWITA

This refers to post-it type notes that you stick around the place to remind you to do stuff. Eventually these will go to form your control journal where you keep details of your daily, weekly, monthly routines etc.

I think that a few of us aren't really doing the reminders like this TBH. I'm not. Sometimes I write a list in this thread if I'm not feeling very motivated but usually I know what I need to do and I'm planning to get my control journal together soon.

It is up to you how you do things (of course!) - just take the bits that help you the most.

Just take it one step at a time so that you (sort of) enjoy it rather than getting swallowed up in the enormity of it all!

madwomanintheattic · 05/10/2009 21:19

thanks! 'control journal' makes it sound v scary - i think i'll leave that until later on!

MommyUpNorth · 05/10/2009 21:53

Wow, this thread is sooooo busy!!! Not keeping up with everyones posts here, but doing well in the house. Sink is looking good 5 days into the month. Thoroughly decluttered the under stairs cupboard, and am looking forward to 2 full days of massive decluttering elsewhere in the house (sad!)!

Well done to everyone else, and maybe I'll catch up with these posts one day!

optimisticmumma · 05/10/2009 21:55

Hi all - just a quick wave to everyone and to say I too am impressed at the amount of work everyone is doing. It's certainly motivating...
Been at work today but am slightly dreading this week as I have a kitchen/family room which is the largest space in the house . 15 mins per day just aint going to do it I'm afraid.
Anyway I have cleared out a truly disgusting spice drawer. Do we all have one of those? Where the cinnamon has combined with the curry powder in a bright orange pile? not to mention the odd bay leaf interspersed!
On a positive note my mornings are so much better and I feel in control when things are orgainsed. I can see that in 6 months or so the house will just keep ticking along almost by itself .

Have a good day tomorrow all.
Sleep tight....

pushmepullyou · 05/10/2009 22:11

Wow - busy thread! Where am I going to find the timne to do any housework keeping up with you all?

positiveattitude Yes, I am married to Dr Doolittle (who despite his engaging passion for animals should more properly be named Dr Dofeckall)

I work full time and have a 10 month old so suspect I may be one of the slower starters. I have managed to do my morning and evening routines, but no extras and really can't face washing the bin out at this time of night!

droitwichmum · 05/10/2009 22:12

Quick check in before bed

Managed to get everything done including the ironing from today
washing done
clean kitchen bin done
15 mins declutter in kitchen done - I can see out of the window now. it makes HEAPS of difference. Will do the pile on top of the fridge tomorrow
shine sink done

FWIW I don't have sticky notes everywhere or a control journal. I find posting my list on here enough for now and I have ordered the life diary and calendar from Organised Mum to help. I've used these before and found they suit me. But as someone else said - each to their own

Countingthegreyhairs · 06/10/2009 00:15

OK just checking in quickly (woken up by dd)

Will catch up with everyone tomorrow but just a quick welcome to Madwoman

And:

here is the baby-step for today

Tuesday 6th October

Detailed cleaning list (if you have already decluttered) only 15 mins remember!!

OP posts:
droitwichmum · 06/10/2009 06:18

Good morning everyone!

My list for today:
empty dishwasher
empty washing machine
15 mins decluttering kitchen - changed my mind and decided to do worktops in view of today's mission. I'll do the top of the fridge tomorrow
2 min Hot Spot - top of cupboard in lounge
ironing

before bed:
washing machine on
dishwasher on
shine sink

Check in later!

elliepac · 06/10/2009 06:35

Morning one and all

Don't normally post lists on a work day but need motivation to do something when i get back in seeing as everyone else is doing so well. So tonight i will:-

shine sink
clear worksurfaces
general tidy downstairs
swish and swipe bathroom
sort DC's washing/putaway
Do one hotspot (poss on top of fridgefreezer)
15 mins decluttering (cupboard in hallway)
Mission (haven't looked to see what it is yet)

If anyone sees me on here before all this is done please shout at me in a forceful manner

Am knackered, DD up half night teething. She's cutting those big pointy ones (can't remember technical term...incisors?) and really suffering.

quick note to pushmepullyou - i am also full time working mum with DS(6) and DD (19m). It is possible to achieve the fly. Just be careful you don't do too much and don't beat yourself up if you don't get it done. Last month i got stuck at the hotspot stage because i couldn't physically do anymore after a day at work but it still made a huge difference to my house. Good Luck.

Countingthegreyhairs · 06/10/2009 06:53

Hello fledglings!

Just to reiterate:

baby step for Tuesday 6th October - an important one!!

today's mission

this week's zone and detailed cleaning list (if you have already decluttered

Take it steady everyone!
