So was i being too unrealistic to think I could keep the heating off, and have you caved in?

It is still off in my home, but gosh it's cold today.

Upstairs is ok (boiler up here) with the hot water pipes giving off a bit of warmth. Yet downstairs is miserable.

It was ok to say, 'ooh i am going to wear fleeces etc...' when it was 12 degress, but 5 is slightly different non?

I CAN@T AFFORD IT and i feel like poo, for not being able to put it on yet.

lit a fire in front room to keep dd warm. rest of house is buggery cold.

a fire would be good. My dad has lit his woodburner.

i want things i can burn!! things i can 'source'. alas i have no fireplace or burner!!

We have got it on, but we have it turned down so the thermostat is on just over 15 degrees rather than a nice comfy 17.

Have you got a thermostat? I never used to be able to do this before but this place having a little dial on the wall is a godsend. It means it doesn't get any colder than 15 and it's liveable with if you pile on the layers.

I still haven't put my heating - we can't afford it either
I did put it on for an hour on saturday as my friend was bringing her baby up but otherwise we sit with fleeces and blankets over us

it's freezing here. fuck it. we'll just have to go into more debt over it and listen to all the tutters naysay about how only people who spend frivolously have debt because they fritter away money on holidays and gadgets - and to every one of them i hope they find hell a cold place.

Our thermostat is also set at 15/16.

we have to heat one room for dd but I am that I am so worried and have to be cold.

Yes, why have the prices gone up so much? I don't get it. Petrol came back down, why isn't energy doing the same?

Heating has been on for an hour in the mornings for a couple of weeks. In the evening stove gets lit.

I've had it on more today though, I must admit. It's freezing up here and we were away for the weekend (with heating switched off) so the house had really cooled down by the time we came back last night. Was about 11 degrees in our bedroom where 5mo ds sleeps...

expat it must be. it's the drop today. it was mild here yesterday.

dd is in the bath lol, hoping if i whip her out and layer her up she'll keep warm.

even the cat's under the duvet.

i too am to have to think like this.

it's bloody fuckin unfair that so many are going to suffer. bastards.

I took DS1 up to the docs today (he re-opened his head wound), and they have free home thermometre things for people to have at home, to help us work out temps.

I am quite surprised to find that what I thought was too cold is in fact 'ideal' .

i read yesterday that the oil suppliers are going to dwon thier barrel output so that they can put the prices back up.

its wrong. it's playing with lives.

pirate, it has not been mild here for some time.

it will snow up in the glens around here tonight.

got credit card statement today. still have debt from when tax credits office left us to starve nearly 3 years ago.

so what the hell?

our gas is on a timer. we set it - it's LPG.

the thermometer in this house dropped to 8 after the sun went down, so the heat's going on.

we're LPG.

we had 885 ltrs delivered a couple of weeks ago.

haven't got he bill, but it's usually around £350 for that much.

everyone keeps thinking the worst of the recession is over.

but i'm here to tell you, we're a flu epidemic away from a lot of needy pensioners not making it through the winter.

is lpg cheaper than oil ?

8 in the house is crap. this all makes me cross.

i'm completely blown away by how much the oil-fired people are paying.

my dad has oil burning rayburn, he paid £550 for about 900 litres the other day.

me and ex dh had oil central heating about 6 yrs ago, i remember it being 17 a litre. now its about 60 p.

my mum reckons the Guvmint want the elderly and dsiabeld poor to die off. Cos it saves money. Why else would they keep on Baroness Warnock with her constant rants on 'duty to die' for the elderly and expensive sick.

We still have the heating off. But we have lit several fires over the past week in teh front room.
And the children are dressed like the michelin man when they go to bed

i havent turned my heating on yet...

but i do live about as far south as you can get in england!

at the moment my lounge is 19C (I have a real proper thermometer in here)

it got down to 17C last night and did feel cold, but when its sunny (like today) the front windows (ie lounge / hall and my bedroom) seem to act like green houses and warm up the room so quickly...

went from 17 - 20 in about 90 mins
curtains now closed to keep the heat in.

I have to say that if i set my thermostat at 15 it would kick in at about 18c (I have checked and monitored quite closely )

My aim was no heating til October (passed; just ) then no heating til clocks changed (passed), my mission is now to wait until November, but the next few days are supposed to be MUCH colder at night, and not very warm during the day, so realistically I might turn my heatiing on tomorrow evening...
definitely not tonight afterall my house is 19C right now.

Also my bathroom is always extreamly cold, and my bathroom has got down to 12C this year (last year my record 'low' one morning was 8C )... at the moment my bathroom in 15C and unless the radiator is actually ON it is never any warmer than that in the winter
