Silverfish - does everyone have them?!

it seems everyone has an issue with these horrors at the moment. How do I get rid of them!

Yes! Before google lens I thought that was what they were. Why so many in the bathroom I have no idea? I put them outside because I always assume that's where insects generally live naturally?

if carpet beetle, they also like to eat through clothes and soft furnishings

Yes, I gave up on having nice jumpers for a few years at home…and had a lot of nice jackets for work ruined as well

It’s unfair isn’t it. They say they’re easy to rid of but they’re definitely not. I feel like they’re seasonal too. Rife at spring.

I thought it was just me!! I guess something to do with the weather must have caused an explosion in their population everywhere. Humidity maybe? I noticed a couple a few weeks ago and stuck a trap down and thought nothing of it. Then we went on holiday for 2 weeks and when we got back they are bloody everywhere! I used to get carpet beetles in my jigsaw mat because we had an old rug/sofa that was infested. Actually we ended up replacing the sofa but then keeping the old one anyway but I actually do think I did manage to get them out of the old sofa so it was OK. However now bloody silverfish seem to have taken over.

Our house is not particularly damp but I will admit it is dusty. They seem to have been most active around the big bookshelf, though, which includes all the important paperwork 😩

It’s dreadful isn’t it. It makes me feel dirty knowing they’re here. I know that isn’t particularly the case as they like damp not dirt. Luckily I’m leaving here to move into my perm home soon so will be shaking and cleaning all I can to ensure that I take none with me and will be laying down traps too in my new property. Let’s see if it works! I seen some sprays on Amazon that are apparently quite effective so you could have a look there?

Surely that approach means your home is soaked in toxic chemicals?!

isnt everyone’s who uses bleach and cleaning products? None of it is natural anyway but we all use them

Yes I would and do, but they are very fast and very small so not easy to pick up like a Ladybird. They don’t wee nasty stuff on you like Ladybirds though, or bite !
