Silverfish - does everyone have them?!

it seems everyone has an issue with these horrors at the moment. How do I get rid of them!

Christ 😱. I would be checking 🕵️‍♀️ the whole new house out, burning my old belongings and going arse bare till i could afford new stuff (just in case) i am a big fearty though 😬😢.

I think they are too. They do no harm.

OP humans also shed skin. In an arguably much muckier way than snakes do.
We also kill one another and do unspeakable things to kids and the vulnerable. I always wonder if people think their own species is wonderful while wanting to kill anything that dares dwell in a space we effectively created for them (or stole from them, depending on the species). We've not even been around a fraction of the time silverfish have.

I had them in my old house. I now bug bomb the whole house once a year and flea spray carpets / soft furnishings every 6 months. Not seen one since. It makes me a bit sad cos the cellar spiders move out for a month after each bout of poison but they make their way back after that.

I had them last year.. got a spray online and spayed skirting boards each night before bed and after a week or so and 100s of bodies every morning they were gone.

Im guessing you are scottish (and scared) too?.

Oh they are fantastic things, quite beautiful and just amazing theyare stiil around if you think about it. Older than dinosaurs and completely harmless. I haven't seen one for years sadly. We once had them in a house share I lived in.

I bet op would gladly package them up and send you them all for free. 🤭

I remember them being part of my games on a fluffy rug when I was a kid. Haven't seen one for 60 years.

Same here. We had them in our living room when I was a child, and I loved seeing them. My friend has them in his kitchen.

Oh dear god. I've had them in a brand new flat, turned out there was a horrendous leak in the building. They stayed in the bathroom though...yuck about them being on the toys !!!

When people are saying they love them, I can’t help but ask if you’d hold one of you came across one? As a kid I did hold lady bugs and wonder if it is the same kind of thing

I feel for you, we had a really bad infestation in our last house, they were in every room and inside drawers.. it was horrible! I bought the spray you can get for off Amazon and sprayed it in the areas I saw them the most like the bathroom floor but it didn’t do a whole lot simply cos they were everywhere and it would be impossible to spray every bit of floor, wall and ceiling.
it was such a relief to move and into a house with no silverfish!

Yes, would, but I don't mind handling spiders, craneflies, woodlouse or earwigs either.. Ladybirds bite, so Id rather not...

I used to try and catch them but they're very fast.

I have slugs in my kitchen and I clap them - and give them wee snacks.

Silverfish in a house is usually caused by excess moisture, available food sources like starch and cellulose and tiny entry points from the outside
