Silverfish - does everyone have them?!

it seems everyone has an issue with these horrors at the moment. How do I get rid of them!

I’ve been told they are so common. None of my family seem to have them though so I don’t understand. They were in my old house too

Yes they’re so fast. I’m kind of used to the ones that I find right in the middle of the floor and slap them once they pretend they’re not there by being so still. The ones next to skirtings I don’t even try as they’re pros. I seen a baby one once I let it go, I think I felt bad for it😆

I do. Hoover / mop immediately after the bug bomb and the morning after flea spray.

Oh I have had the bombs before x2 for £18 and it says on the back of the tin to not hoover it mop for 28 days

I’ve just checked cos I had one left from last time. The ones I use are insectokil smoke bomb and they’re 4 for £20 on amazon. I put one in each room then have to light them in the correct sequence so I can get out of the house. It says to leave in for two hours but I tend to leave it for four, open all windows and hoover / mop.

The flea spray I use is indorex. 2 for £25 on Amazon and my (small) 3 bedroom house needs about 1.5. It says you only need to do it once a year (my mum says that works for her) but I do it every 6 months. The cat does get flea drops too (yes, I am paranoid).

Neither product says anything about waiting to hoover.

I've never seen one (touch wood) but my friend was saying she had them in her downstairs bathroom.

I googled them and they do look horrible.

Oh okay! We must have got different ones but yours sound a lot better. It is off putting when I can’t mop and hoover.
I don’t blame you about being paranoid. It is worth it to put your mind at ease isn’t it.
I am getting a cat soon too so I may take your advice and de-flea my house (when I move in and get my cat). You can’t be too careful

The last time I saw one was about 40 years ago when I lived in a damp house.

I had loads in my toilet (its a seperate bath toilet pain in the ass in my house) I threw talc on the floor brushed it into any cracks and they went Johnsons baby talc has uses apparently

Lived in this house for 4 years and had a bit of an ant problem but easily solved with those bait stations. This year, no ant problem (yay) but first ever silverfish discovered in a regularly cleaned, not damp bathroom a few days ago! WTF? I squished it and flushed it down the loo. I only knew what it was because a week or so beforehand my son messaged to say he was deep cleaning his bathroom and I was like what that doesn’t sound like you. And he said it was because he had silver fish. So I googled and it said they liked damp places. I was like well you obviously never clean your bathroom and also don’t leave the extractor fan on long enough. It doesn’t have a window either. So anyway I put it down to him being gross, but maybe there’s just more of them around this year?!

It’s definitely not being dirty. They’re in or not they love damp humid places and a few people said they’ve noticed them more this year. I think they’re on the rise the rotten little buggers
