Decluttering Thread 13 - Hopefully Lucky For Some!

Good morning fellow sorters, chuckers & sellers! Starting a new thread as No 12 was almost full. This thread is one of my favourites & I find it hugely inspiring. I have a very long way to go as my house still resembles a jumble sale but I have got rid of a lot over the last few months plus made some money into the bargain. Last night I transferred several carrier bags of clothes that are on Vinted into a pink velvet storage chest that, ironically, hadn’t been assembled & was taking up space in DH’s office 🤣🤣🤣 It’s now in front of the storage cubes in the lounge & honestly, the pleasure I get from seeing it & the space created is immense.
I need a day to dedicate to Vinted as I have bags of clothes still to photograph & upload, some clothes to try on which may end up on there too & some TJC rings to photograph for selling. They were quite expensive but I rarely wore them & now they’re too big. I have a huge car bill to pay so the extra pennies will be great. Have a productive day all!

Thanks for the new thread @MarmaladeSandwich7

The weather’s been so lovely that most of my decluttering consists of tidying the garden which still has traces of storm damage. Then I come into the house and feel as though I don’t need a fraction of the junk in the house.

Gave away two books I was no longer interested in to someone who was delighted with them.

CheesePlantFeet · 29/04/2026 21:52

Thanks for starting the new thread!

I think I've sold all I'm going to on vinted right now. Everything has been listed for ages and isn't shifting. I'm going to take the rest to the charity shop at the weekend. But progress this week so far...

Charity shop: shoes,
Bin / recycling: plant ties
Vinted/sold locally: dress, skirt

Total: 1132

IncessantNameChanger · 29/04/2026 23:02

Hello! I'm clearing my storage locker out on Saturday ekk! I might well hit my 2026 target yet!

IndianSummer78 · 29/04/2026 23:21

I love it when I find someone to give things away to tidyclutter

Was unwell today so no decluttering here. Total brought forward from previous thread 4634.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 30/04/2026 00:08

@CheesePlantFeet I love Vinted but do get a bit frustrated as a lot of things don’t even get viewed. I’m planning to iron the tops etc with our new iron, re - photograph them & re - post.

Thanks for starting the new thread.

Today my plan is to declutter all the warm clothes which I didn’t wear this winter. Probably the wrong time to be listing wooly jumpers on Vinted, but want to do it now while I have the motivation!

Pigtailsandall · 30/04/2026 19:48

If anyone wants help with vinted you can dm me your details and I'll go and view and follow - it helps the algorithm to push stuff onwards

Mine is moving decently just now. I sold a kids' jigsaw today but collected a pair of dungarees for dc (they had requested some). However, big win was 20 toddler picture books to a friend. They had been languishing forever so was happy to pass them on

Total ins= 111
Total outs= 282

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 30/04/2026 21:48

Binned - one pair completely wrecked safety trainers
Burst basketball that had been lying in the garden for two years.

Donate/sell - unworn outgrown girls’ gilet.

Paper bin - cardboard packaging from the big pile in the kitchen. Amazon have a useful webpage about how to recycle their packaging. Interesting bit about different kinds of tape. This evening I got a package from evri that had yards and yards of plastic tape round it, so I had to put that particular box in the landfill bin :-(

Now that I have a Cupboard of Doom I find that decluttering it slips my mind almost all the time because I’m not tripping over stuff, unlike the Floor of Doom which it replaces.

I tidied the utility room and toilet, and put laundry powder, etc, on shelves.

IndianSummer78 · 30/04/2026 23:41

One dress that keeps riding up
One pair trainers somehow the wrong shape. You'd think feet were feet, but apparently not.

Thanks for starting the new thread! I need to do an April summary to count how much went out of the house, and how much came in to the house, so that’s a job for this weekend.

I asked on a local freecycle group about which supermarkets take hangers for recycling, and as is typical on thus group, someone has contacted me saying they could use them and asking where collection would be…then gone silent! So annoying 🙄

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 01/05/2026 19:30

A quick heads up after my googling for advice on sticky strips on packaging. The glue on amazon and whoosh bags will damage the recycling machinery, and result in the entire batch being discarded. Cut off the sticky strips on both sides of the bag or envelope.

I’ve always cut off the strip of glue to err on the side of caution. But it does make recycling a little harder with arthritis and having to remember all the rules.

I recently read about the new bins for our area. Three to replace the one recycling trolley. And as far as I can see we have to cut paper labels out of soft plastics.

And I did some weeding and the paviers are looking tidier.

edited for clarity and sp

The charity shop bags plus an unused Taylor Swift calendar have made it from the hall to the car boot! Today they will hopefully make it to the charity shop!

Hiya 👋🏻 I’ve taken all my vinted stuff down (aside from my sons games) & put into a charity bag which was collected yesterday. The new bag to sell /do gate has started. Got some outgrown school trouser which I’ll pop on vinted soon, would like to go through all of his & sort them out but as he’s now a teenager all his time is spent in his pit/room & prising him out is getting trickier. Have had to buy new school trousers though so that’s just evened out.
the vets were asking for blanket donations so sorted though the dogs pile & got rid of them that way. I’m sure they breed in the box overnight.
I’ve just had a back pay/recognition payment so trying so hard to save it & not buy stuff 😬

IndianSummer78 · 02/05/2026 19:22

Pair trainers too small
Half used tin of paint that's gone gloopy

Some more packaging and the paper recycling tub is just about full. The messy corner in the kitchen is getting lower, very gradually.

Swept a small quantity of leaves into a pile. Couldn’t be bothered looking for the brush, so left them there for tomorrow. Then watched from the kitchen window as a blackbird systematically flung the leaves one by one back onto the path in a search for bugs and insects.

Pigtailsandall · 03/05/2026 20:25

I've had a really good decluttering weekend so far. Both dc and dh found some stiff and we listed things on vinted together too Nothing new in. Out so far:

Book sold on vinted
Handcream used up (god it was old!)
Sample mascara used up
2 v old bottles of booze, empted and recycled
2 kids Xmas activity books (filled up) recycled
One kids notebook recycled
One adult notebook recycled
A book of postcards donated
A poetry book recycled
Pair of my sandals recycled at Schuh
3 covid masks binned
3 kids jigsaws donated
Christmas decs set donated

Out, 301 items so far and not counting paper or recycling although a lot of that went too

Filling up a charity bag again too. I'm feeling more ruthless thinking about moving and having to pack it all up!!

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 04/05/2026 11:35

So chuffed - DD17 at last agreed to sort through the massive pile of her clothes, throws & bedding at the top of the stairs. It’s a big thing for her so I’m proud of her. Two bags going to the charity shop, summer stuff to find a home for & winter stuff going in the loft. We need to get some storage boxes to put our bedding in. It’s currently toppling over in DH’s office. DD17 presented me with a list of what she wants for the summer so that’s why she showed me what’s in the pile. There are still clothes on the landing & on her bedroom floor as well as a few bits in the wardrobe, although that’s used mainly as a general dumping ground. If/when DD moves out, I think we might have to hire a skip & also fumigate the room!

DH has ironed some of my things so I have a lovely full length chocolate brown Monsoon dress, a neon yellow Whistles t shirt & a pretty designer top from TK Maxx to put on Vinted.

4 parcels sent off just now- 1 dog lead, motorbike armour pads, kids tracksuit & a bundle of kids joggers all on their way. Only came to about £15 but that’ll go into savings & not buying more.
found some old towels that are going in the bag to drop off at the vets this week for them to use up.
