Whatever your speed or method, whether it’s a few shelves, a couple of boxes or entire attics, rooms, or garages, come here and share both your successes and your struggles. There’s support and commiserations, and lots of good ideas.

Posted too soon!

  • One sock with a massive hole in the heel
  • A small bag of long out-of-date food items
  • The last of my patience with MiniFool's inability to settle down to bed (not counting that one!)

Outs = 14

Happyhettie · 02/01/2026 20:20

@toomanyhobbies so sorry for your loss. Not doing much is ok, you need to look after yourself and do what feels right. Xx

Realfastfoodie · 02/01/2026 22:09

Small habits are everything @toomanyhobbies, I just wish I could get my family to join in…

IndianSummer78 · 03/01/2026 00:28

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 03/01/2026 07:24

Forgot to say that I have deleted loads of E Mails & am about to go through my photos as I have hundreds, with several duplicates.

Vinorosso74 · 03/01/2026 09:02

I'm still waiting for DP to do anything regarding decluttering while he's had time off; he was going to sort through his stuff in the letter rack. I've done the small amount from there of mine and joint household stuff.
Last year's calendar gone along with packaging from some gifts.
Tree will come down tomorrow and I want to do a thorough post Christmas clean.

Specialagentblond · 03/01/2026 13:12

Tidied out the drinks cabinet. I have several bottles of spirits with one or 2 inches left so have got rid of some and will use the rest up. Also chucked some OOD mixers.

cleared out more clothes, some on Vinted, some to charity.

sold a nespresso machine on Vinted.

need to do more listing today.

mutleyschuckles · 03/01/2026 13:31

Have gone through my wardrobe & have a charity bag of hoodies & jumpers to take to charity next week. Have gone through a chest of drawers in the bedroom- have another carrier bag of old socks& undies that don’t fit/holey. Some forgotten to take down & pack away Xmas decorations binned because I can’t be bothered to go back into the loft.
posted off a coat that sold on vinted, & taken done the unsold stuff for charity next week as well.

IncessantNameChanger · 03/01/2026 14:48

Right I'm of to the charity shop in a bit. Need to count what I'm getting rid of but just posting to placemats.

I have picked up my sale items from M&S today. Really happy to see that I ordered two pairs of identical jeans in two sizes so that's at least two to go back. I'm on WLI and have lost three stone so far. I think I'm going to keep both sizes. One is too small but hopefully will fit me soon enough.

Realfastfoodie · 03/01/2026 15:43

Well done @IncessantNameChanger -that’s a great achievement - decluttering unwanted weight. I’m hoping to do something similar this year 🤞 and take the opportunity to rationalise my wardrobe

Zireael · 03/01/2026 16:48

Dropped off a box of 45 DVDs, BluRays and computer games for Music Magpie at the post office today, will hopefully make about £35.

IncessantNameChanger · 03/01/2026 17:33

Went to charity shop but it was shut. It often shuts earlier than advertised so left in the boot for another day.

Got to add my sales in but I ordered them in 2025 😅🤣 but I will add them anyway. Just looks better today at zero. I need to hit this month's target and do the rest of 2025 which is only 130. Easy right?

Total for 2025 year
In = 169
Out = 1895
-----
1st Jan out dd dress and trainers Vinted
3rd 49 toys and dd clothes to charity shop
9 hangers

Total out 60
Total in = 0

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 03/01/2026 17:41

Just put a pink cardi in the charity shop bag & dug out yet more clothes to sell, including a pair of Nicole Farhi trousers.

Have you got a referral code? I've a very small box to go after sending 2 boxes to Sell my Books yesterday.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 03/01/2026 18:27

4 eggcups in the charity bag - can’t remember the last time any of us wanted a boiled egg. Also chucked a couple of chipped mugs & an old drinks bottle of DD’s without a lid.

FoolShapeHeart · 03/01/2026 18:44

We've had a couple of Ins today, late-arriving Christmas gifts & sensory equipment ordered late last year. I hadn't really thought it through before but I've decided to count the Ins too and try for a net 2026. I won't include consumables or gifts for others, just anything that will live in the FoolShack.

03/01

  • Another sock that I only realised had a hole in it when one foot felt cold
  • A misshapen and no longer very white t-shirt that I only wear as a last resort if I'm behind on laundry
  • 2 useless tea towels that don't dry anything
  • 2 houseplants that I hoped would rally, but are undeniably really and truly dead. They are ex-plants 🦜
  • The packaging for the consumables parcel. MiniFool will use the other for construction games.

Outs = 21
Ins = 1
Net = 20

CheesePlantFeet · 03/01/2026 19:24

We've started taking down the Christmas decorations today, and while we in in the loft we decided to sort out the stuff that lives behind where Christmas gets stored, or else it'll stay there for another year.

Outs
Charity shop: 3x charging wires, christmas stocking, fairy lights

Bin / recycling: 6x empty duplo storage containers, 2x mdf boards

Total 52

Iceisnice · 03/01/2026 20:04

Evening.
Today i have managed my 2nd laundry basket full:
Charity collection;
Tree bag
Kids books x10 (some were so badly written it was 😬)
Ornamental clutter, some I bought but loads that were gifted and not at all my style. (I prefer nothing!)
4x baking tins
10x nail varnish - all unopened
Apron
Elf set
2x too small kids dress up clothes
Marble run (novelty worn off)
Bag of blocks.

Ar the moment decluttering is a bit haphazard with no real focus on any area as dc are being demanding with both time and attention 😀.
On Tuesday I will be able to concentrate in an area and see how the decluttering improves. I have a tip run and charity collection booked for Weds and I will plan on taking myself out for a full English afterwards as a reward.... the weight decluttering can go on pause until Thursday 🤣
2/52

Realfastfoodie · 03/01/2026 20:26

Wow @Iceisnice and @FoolShapeHeart - you are really going for it! @CheesePlantFeet - well done! I have also made a start on the loft /xmas stuff challenge.

With the loft, I managed to get 2 bags full of rubbish and recycling (counting as 2, not the number of things) and managed to give away 5 really bulky games/puzzles. A bag or so into the charity pile, so that’s more to go next week. A bit of tidying too, but we still look like a disaster zone 😭

Realfastfoodie · 03/01/2026 20:29

Oh plus another 4 vinted things - so that’s a total of 91 for the year so far.

@IncessantNameChanger - I wonder if I really should be counting the “ins” like you… would definitely impact my number!!

Iceisnice · 03/01/2026 20:56

Thanks @realfastfoodie I am determined to end the year a lot lighter (in lbs of weight and lbs of clutter 🤣) than I started it!
I have been 'decluttering' for ages.... but in truth I haven't been ruthless enough and have skirted around the edges a lot. Now that all 3 dc are in school I have more time (sahm) to focus. I must admit that I have spent the time from Sept to Dec kinda floundering (missing the dc especially my ds who started in sept and also the first time in 10 years child free during the day 😱) but hopefully this is the kick in the backside I need!
I am determined 2026 is the year get my shizzle together 🤪

Iceisnice · 03/01/2026 20:57

I was going to say as well that I was going to start on the loft today but chickened out because it was freezing up there so well done @realfastfoodie!

I don’t think so, but will put code on here if one materialises!

If you count your "in's" you have some peace of mind that your not just refilling the house. It's nice to see that I'm still doing ten outs for every 1 in. But I am reformed hoarder. My shopping habit is very dead now. I'm being very careful in the sales.

I have bought two pairs of M&S wide leg ( sparkly) jeans. I fear I do lovely a bit of sparkle but not quite Katy Price level. Yet.
Two pairs of primark pjs as my old ones fall down.
Cyberjamies nightgown from M&S ( got too many already to be honest).
4 bras from M&S ( two old ones fit for the bin I can't bear to part with).
White stuff leather Tote ( totally unjustified purchase )
I also ordered some things from TU but they haven't turned up yet.
So ten ins 😬 but I'm not intending to buy anything else this year 😇
