In June my name was 2in2022, I've changed my name.

Join us in building routines to make housework more manageable. Start out with the baby steps, add in the missions in each zone, it will eventually become second nature. Jump right in, you're never left behind!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in 😊

July's habit is swish and swipe. That's keeping your bathroom clean. Flylady explains in detail under FAQ.

https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/fly-faq/#swish

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Also, don't even look at missions until you reach that babystep. Or you'll tumble out the nest without wings. Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.
Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
Tuesday: plan & play
Wednesday: anti-procrastination
Thursday: errand day
Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
Saturday: family fun day
Sunday: renew your spirit
Common acronyms we use:
LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
LMS: lose/lost my shit
DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications. I use it for the morning and evening routines, you can modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

I'm a flybaby as I'm still taking my time over the baby steps been slowly building routines since march. So I've posted a link to babysteps, I've been working through. This link will take you to the website with everything on.

Placemarking - thank you very much for the new thread!

LaMarschallin · 01/07/2025 12:53

Thanks for the thread, Alwayslearning25 Flowers
I haven't posted much for a while but am always following. These threads have definitely kept my house (and me) ticking over well and I enjoy hearing what everyone's up to.

HazelNotHungryLC · 01/07/2025 15:10

Alwayslearning25 thank you for starting a new thread for July!
Thank you Dilly for running June's thread!

ED you've already had a busy day, before work! I'm glad to hear that your family is all tackling their hotspots as well.

I've not done any flying lately, but will fly today!

To dos:
🥵 take dogs to groomer
🥵 bathe dogs
🥵 get hair done
🥵 bank
🥵 take DS to get his perm again
🥵 laundry: sheets, towels, dog beds, blankets from the couch, whites (the loads I don't have DS wash!)
🥵 meal plan
🥵 grocery shopping (yes, this still hasn't been done here!)
🥵 figure out everything I'm making for our BBQ on Friday (for Independence day)
🥵 vacuum
🥵 mop
🥵 bleach both bathrooms

It's going to be a busy day!

SunshineAndSummerShowers2025 · 02/07/2025 00:48

Thank you for June, @DillyDeclutter and thanks also to @Alwayslearning25 for this new month.

Started the paperwork backlog yesterday. I set it out on the table and worked my way through the muddle to get it into correct piles.

I'm making the most of the solitude and doing as much paperwork as possible this week. The forecast is for rain every day, which is as good a time as any to get to grips with the life admin and have an actual strategy for the future.

HazelNotHungryLC · 02/07/2025 06:20

Ta das:
🧘‍♀️ took dogs to groomer
🧘‍♀️ bathed dogs
🧘‍♀️ hair done
🧘‍♀️ bank
🧘‍♀️ took DS to get his perm again
🧘‍♀️ laundry: sheets, towels (x2 loads), blankets from the couch, whites (the loads I don't have DS wash!)
🧘‍♀️ meal plan
🧘‍♀️ grocery shopping
🧘‍♀️ vacuum
🧘‍♀️ tried to mop, I'm out of cleaner in my mop, apparently!
🧘‍♀️ bleached both bathrooms
🧘‍♀️ put 4th of July decor up
🧘‍♀️ handwashed dishes
🧘‍♀️ rotated DW
🧘‍♀️ yoga!
🧘‍♀️ logged food into mfp (yes, that's an achievement, so I'm adding it to my list!)

I'm starting to fall asleep, so best get off here!

Alwayslearning25 · 02/07/2025 07:00

Good morning!
It's much cooler here so a day I can get stuff done.

Todays babystep is get up and dressed to shoes, including sorting your face and hair. Flylady recommends doing this first thing, I've not as I went straight to the kitchen and do barefoot at home. It will be next on my to do list.

Daily mission from the app is actually zone 4 still, your bedroom. Is that right fledglings? Fly lady has asked us to clean our bedside table, or nightstand, and put something new and pretty on it. 'waking up and not seeing a pile on your nightstand will make your morning a little brighter!'

Wednesday is antiprocastination day, so that's it for Mumsnet for me this morning.

@DillyDeclutter thank you for last month
@HazelNotHungryLC well done on all those jobs, enjoy the festivities!

Good morning ☕️

Thanks for this months thread @Alwayslearning25 and for last months @DillyDeclutter 💐 🍰

My anti procrastination task today is to take items back to next and get other items ready to take to the post office to send back tomorrow 👍 also need to finish application form and sort some paperwork out . First is the usual school run, work , school run , tea and kids clubs 🙂

DillyDeclutter · 02/07/2025 09:28

Morning! The app missions are all messed up, so is the website, I could only find them through the links on Flylady Facebook.

My anti procrastination is to sort out a bank account that needs closing.

EssentialDecluttering · 02/07/2025 22:20

Thanks @Alwayslearning25 amd also @DillyDeclutter for last month.

I found the missions through FB too, or if you click on missions in the app someone kindly posts the actual mission in the comments every day but you can't copy and paste, the whole thing is a bit of a mess at the moment.

Cooler here today thank goodness. I am very busy at work and am likely to be for the next few months so I am definitely going to keep nagging the family to do more housework.

HazelNotHungryLC · 02/07/2025 23:50

Alwayslearning25 at the beginning of the month we always go back to zone 1, entryway and dining room. The app isn't updating, but there's usually at least one person that comments on the mission with the correct one.
Today is spend 15 minutes on decluttering in the dining room. Apparently they email this info, but I'm scared to get 100 emails a day from flylady!

Searchingfordaffodils · 03/07/2025 06:06

Yesterdays tada
✅ took clothes back to next

I didn't really get much else done other than the usual's (work , everyone fed and where they needed to go, school , clubs etc, dinner pots, laundry ) 🙈 I went for a long walk with a friend instead !

Tonight would usually be a bit of a catch up on the general tidy night , however I have a meeting until 5 so perhaps a catch up of everything at the weekend will be needed ! We will see how the day goes .

My dining room is so very nearly fully decluttered 🥳 I can't wait to say next month that I'm onto the deep cleaning of that room and only spend a short time keeping on top of the clutter ! Exciting times !! It's the only room in the house at that stage but the rest will get there !!

Alwayslearning25 · 03/07/2025 11:00

Good morning!

Todays babystep is to explore the website. I just did that, it's still a bit of a mess, but there's some gems of essays in there if you dig about. I started watching a video of flylady trying to pursude us to sign up to emails but it felt like I was getting told off so stopped watching. The app, I like better, with the to do lists. Thank you @HazelNotHungryLC for your tip on reading the comments for missions.

Todays mission is to clean cobwebs and dust in your dining room. Check down on skirting boards, and up on the cobwebby corners and dusty light shades.

There's also a comment on flykids. It won't copy and paste but if you have suitably aged kids (I'll try with my 7 year old tonight), it's worth a read. it's a fun cleaning mission as a firedrill to clean their bedroom hotspots for 5 minutes.

Toddler is still teething, no problems yesterday but the runs overnight and gum poking this morning.I overslept, so didn't feel I had to get myself ready before sorting out the kids. Then I drove the wrong way to work and walked in just on time but not mentally ready. I'm now all caught up and had had my breakfast. So morning routine was out the window. I'll go back to basics and get my sink shiny this morning and myself ready early tomorrow... maybe not shoes though.

OP posts:
Alwayslearning25 · 03/07/2025 20:24

My sink is shiny and one lol was rotated on the clothes horse today, which is outside the front door, but it's been a bit drizzly so can easily bring it in.

DillyDeclutter · 03/07/2025 21:11

Washing done and yard swept, lots of out of the house jobs done but not much inside. Hotspots are OK because we've barely been in.

Ds is at primary school and we're on the run up to the summer holiday with something different at school every day for the next two weeks (it feels like) so quite chaotic!

Alwayslearning25 · 03/07/2025 21:30

@DillyDeclutter Same, DD has her first proper school trip (on a coach) in a couple of weeks too!

@HazelNotHungryLC happy 4th July! 7 years ago today I registered my first baby. At the library, and got a couple of free baby books from bookstart. We use the library a lot because reading is her favourite thing.

Baby step 4 is the start of your control journal. Use sticky notes to remind you of daily habits, somewhere you will see them. I tried using old sticky notes earlier this year and they fell off. DH finds them a bit messy so I will review my conntrol journal which I've slowly written on. It is a notebook. Page one and two is the morning and evening routine, in pencil because I keep, adding and removing tasks from it. Page 3 is inspirational quotes, this is a later babystep. Page 4 is a list of babysteps I started, maybe beggining of may for quite review. Today was missing, maybe as I didn't get on with sticky notes. What do you use as a control journal? I find the app keeps me on track better but a paper journal makes me feel good!

Friday is clean out your bag and car. My bag needs a good emptying but things for today are allredy packed, so tonight. And date night. I need to give this a think, and arrange babysitting for next Friday for me and DH. We don't really do babysitting and dates, but my aunt has offered, toddler is less clingy now. We don't drink, and DH especially doesn't like to eat in the evening, finds he sleeps better, I've also got into the habbit with intermittent fasting... might look at theatre....

Check back later for the mission. Or check the app under my progress and chose something from there.

Mission for zone one today is to dust, water and declutter your houseplants, by removing any dead leaves or debris around them. Flykids mission is just a one minute task. Go to your room and empty the bin. That was so easy! You're room looks so messy with an overflowing bin (trashcan).

HazelNotHungryLC · 04/07/2025 15:19

ED well done for having a plan to keep nagging the family through your busy period at work. In an ideal world nagging wouldn't have to happen, but we know how that goes sometimes!

Searching that must be such an achievement to have your dining room just about fully decluttered! Do you have other things stored in there? Like a multi purpose room?

Alwayslearning25 I have no idea how you remember what day you registered your 1st baby! I certainly couldn't! I guess it would make it easier if it was a day like the 4th of July though.

To answer your question, I have never tried the control journal or sticky notes. I have utilized the notes app on my phone though, especially when I have a lot to get done. I can click on the little box that puts a line through that item, it's quite satisfying! I really should go on the Flylady app and personalise it, I still haven't done that!

So our BBQ is today.. it's pouring down with rain right now, very, very unusual here! We've never had a 4th of July that's not been super hot and dry! Other than what we've heard about, in the 80's they had snow SNOW!
We are still going ahead with it, but people might not want to get into the pool today 😂

Alwayslearning25 · 04/07/2025 17:05

@ed, at the time 4th July felt symbolic as registered her was in a way giving her independence from me. Allthough we don't celebrate it in anyway. I struggle to recall my 2nds birthday at times so feel that's unfair on him!

OP posts:
EssentialDecluttering · 04/07/2025 17:11

Happy 4th @HazelNotHungryLC hope the BBQ goes ok.

I have got my whiteboard (it is a thin roll up type) under a runner being flattened. Made my lists. Undecided whether to handwrite them or type them and stick them up. Probably the latter as reading handwriting can be an issue for my dyslexic/dyspraxic family.

DillyDeclutter · 04/07/2025 18:27

Happy 4th Hazel!

I remember registering my children as both have a lot of long middle names which come with multiple spelling variations (e.g. like Katherine), so it took a while! Can't remember the date though!

I don't really have a control journal, each morning I do a daily list based on the app and the Big Jobs list in my bullet journal. Sometimes I do this daily list the night before.

Car needs a clean out and DH ie away partying without me this weekend so no date night here. Still, nice to have some fun time with the dc. Handbag is OK for once.

Alwayslearning25 · 05/07/2025 05:41

Babystep 4 is recognise your negative voices and turn them into positive ones. Looking after yourself. I followed a link to a pampering section, and here is a flylady mission if you are following babysteps.

"Hi again friends! I’m excited to share this week’s Pamper Mission with you. With the end of the school year finally here, I think it’s time we all take a little break and relax and enjoy this summer vacation. And today’s Pamper Mission is just that… take a break! Yep, you heard me. Sit there and do absolutely nothing for at least 15 minutes. More if you can spare it! Kick your feet up and just relax. No making a to do list, no answering work emails, no decluttering the magazines on the table beside you. RELAX! Want an added health benefit while doing nothing? Give yourself a scalp massage! Some “experts” claim that a daily scalp massage will help your hair grow longer and faster. Even if they are wrong, who cares! You still get a nice relaxing head massage out of it! Lol. Set your timer and GOOOOOO!"

Saturday is family fun day. No missions on Saturday?

Morning ☕️

Happy belated 4th July , how did your BBQ go ? My dining room had boxes of paperwork - the kids homeschooling things from Covid, I really struggle to declutter it all but finally did a few months back , I kept the kids diaries which they may want to look at . I also had a couple of things that was given to me that was mum's , I still can't look through her possessions but I managed what I'd put in the dining room . It is still is a multi purpose room , my heated airer is kept in there and during term time a clothes rail with the uniforms on (seems strange but the kids seem to get dressed downstairs so it's the easiest option and works for us at the moment). We do use it as a dining room though and sit at the dining table everyday so it's nice to be in there knowing I'm nearly there ! Just a couple of empty boxes and a small filing drawers (about 30cm x 30 x 30) the filing drawers I'm going to keep my cross stitch patterns in and I want to keep the empty boxes just in case I can use them in another room 🙂

@Alwayslearning25 I can remember registering the births of all my dc but I can't remember the dates - those early days were a blur ! I love The Works! I read all the time so I'm always popping in and out of there and the library 🙂 I hope your afternoon at work went better .

@DillyDeclutter the school activities at this time of year and the run up to Christmas are crazy aren't they !! I often get mum guilt as I can't attend many of them either working in a school myself. I wish they would do some events in the evening so working parents could attend some 😏

Todays to dos
🧺 30 mins ironing to get a head start on the uniforms
🧺 tidy living & dining room
🧺 finish decluttering dining room 🥳
🧺 catch up on laundry
🧺 fold clean clothes
🧺 bag up and take returns back to the post office
🧺 pack gymnastics bag ready for dd2 competition tomorrow

There's more that I need to achieve this weekend, however I'm going out at 10am for a couple of hours to meet with friends. I'm going to make a coffee , then have an hour on the list and see how far I get before jumping in the shower (hopefully the house will be awake by then)

HazelNotHungryLC · 05/07/2025 15:03

ED I think it's really good that you know what works for your family re handwriting vs typing.

Dilly my Jeep isn't bad, other than needing washed and vacuumed. My handbag OTOH is a mess! I'll try to clean that out this weekend. There's too much! Honestly I still have our boarding passes in it from our return flight 🫣 I'm embarrassed to admit that!

Alwayslearning25 that's right, no missions on the weekend, just fun and recharging for the next week.

Searching the BBQ went well. Had an incident where the neighbour toddler decided to jump off the floaty he was on, into the pool (that's deeper than he is tall) and his dad had to jump in, fully clothed, to save the day. Other than that, non-eventful! Lots of jello shots that the neighbour made and brought over were consumed, lots of food and we still have lots of food leftover! As always.
I don't think there's anything wrong with having a multi-purpose room, you have to live there, not live in a show house, so if something works for you as a family, I don't see anything wrong with it!

I do have a lot of cleaning up to do today, handwash dishes mainly, then a vacuum, mop and clean the bathrooms needs doing.
I do have to make a cheesecake today, ready for tonight. It's BILs birthday dinner at our house. We also have to go to the next big town to buy the steaks for dinner, as they have the best steaks at Costco!
As of right now, I just need to make my 2nd cup of coffee, drink it with my feet up, and hope the rest of the family wakes up soon, mainly DH though, so I can take a shower!
