🌷"Moving in May" - with Flylady🌷

BloomingHazel · 30/04/2025 22:30

Join us in building routines to make housework more manageable. Start out with the baby steps, add in the missions in each zone, it will eventually become second nature. Jump right in, you're never left behind!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in 😊

May's habit of the month is daily loving movement. Whatever gets you moving, whether it's walking, dancing, cycling, gardening etc. 🚲🕺💃🏊

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.
There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!
Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.

Sunday is renew your spirit day.
Go to church, walk in nature, take a relaxing bath, meditate, yoga, read a book, whatever you like to do.
I also include pampering yourself too, so manicure/ pedicure, extra skincare (face mask etc), whatever you need.
Drink extra water, stretch, feel refreshed for the upcoming week.

It's Monday, so that means it's home bleugh day. Quick vacuum, empty bins, change sheets.

It also means we are in a new zone - the master bedroom.
Monday's mission is to clean off the top of your dresser. Throw away rubbish, put things away that got left out, then dust. If it needs a lot of attention, just set your timer for 15 minutes and get done what you can in that time.

I'm so sorry it's late again! I'll try to be better for the rest of the month.

Yesterday was a long and busy day, big city, took DD shopping, and found a few things for myself as well.

Tuesday is plan & play day.

Tuesdays mission is to spend 15 minutes decluttering the top shelf of your wardrobe. If you can't get to your top shelf, declutter whatever is in your way. Set your timer and go!

Very much looking forward to this today plus I’ll add in yesterday’s mission as my weekly home bleurgh took all day to complete yesterday (mix of mess after the weekend and health stuff).

BloomingHazel · 20/05/2025 06:18

We played softball again tonight. I slipped on the sand as I was running towards 1st base. My elbow is a little bruised and tender, but my legs, holy cow they hurt from running!

I had an awful night's sleep last night, so I'm going to try to get to sleep now!

Back to work today. I feel like I've barely been at work recently with exams, odd sick day and my toddlers childminder is sick, yesterday I was looking after me but my aunt is looking after him today...I'm back on baby steps... Step 9 but I've not convintantly done my morning routines so may pause then for a bit. Do you have the same morning routine on work and non work days?

I think I’d struggle with full on fly lady routines if I was still working, anyone who manages even little bits on work days is amazing.

2in2022twoyearson · 20/05/2025 11:39

To be honest, having a deadline of leaving for work really helps get the routine done.

EndlesslyDecluttering · 20/05/2025 13:06

I'm OK on work days, but my DCS are grown up and I'm not having to sort them out, do school runs on the way to work etc, also we are flexi so I can take a bit longer in the mornings, but I tend to do more routine stuff in the evenings anyway as I am something of a night owl.

2in2022twoyearson · 20/05/2025 13:22

I'm definitely a morning person, my evening routine I have no hope. Especially after small children bedtime.

EndlesslyDecluttering · 20/05/2025 13:42

Yes, it's very different once they are older. I potter about all evening and frequently go out to the gym or allotment too so it suits me to do odd jobs then. But when they were little I did used to flop on the sofa once they were in bed.

BloomingHazel · 20/05/2025 14:15

As far as my routines go, both the morning and evening are about the same for me, but they're mostly to help me get ready for the day or her ready for bed. I'm ashamed to say I don't do much (if anything) for housework on my work days, as they are so long. I'm out of the house between 6:30am to 6:30pm, and after dinner it's time to start getting ready for bed again!

On my days off I do try to keep up with my morning routine of getting dressed etc, or I'm not productive at all!

Today I have my hair appt, but I'll get a lol going before I leave.
DH is having his guitar lesson at the house tonight, so it'll need to be somewhat presentable by then.
I'll be back on later with some ta das.

OP posts:
SunshineAndSpringCleaning · 20/05/2025 15:21

All the lovely tada lists and to-dos are putting me to shame. I’ve been enjoying the weather so much that very little has got done in the house. I’m trying to get the garden tidied before all the weeds spring up again with the rain later this week. Then I’ll try to tackle the shed.

Exams have finished for TG, but study leave continues. She has just had three appts in two days and is now slumped in front of some well-deserved netflix. TB is with DH at a clinic appt far enough away for it to be a whole day trip, which they’re fine with because they both love buses. 😀

2in2022twoyearson · 20/05/2025 18:46

Exactly, flop on the sofa is what I need after toddler bedtime.

BloomingHazel · 21/05/2025 06:18

Ta das:
🥎 LOLs x7
🥎 hair appt
🥎 grocery shopping
🥎 vacuumed
🥎 mopped
🥎 bleached both bathrooms

We went out to practise softball tonight, just DH, DS and me. I pulled my quad muscle again in my leg, so I'm having trouble moving around 😩

OP posts:
BloomingHazel · 21/05/2025 06:26

Wednesday is anti-procrastination day.

Wednesday's mission is to go through your master bathroom, if you have one, and declutter anything in there that's out of date. Go through your makeup and get rid of anything out of date.

Decluttered en-suite and scrubbed the floor in there . Decluttered some clothes - there’s a charity bag come through for next Wednesday collection so I’m filling it.

BloomingHazel · 21/05/2025 23:42

Good zone work lifeisgood! I loved getting the charity bags, but I haven't had one in years.

2in2022 when they are that little it really is a matter of doing what you can, but getting the rest you need. They're only little once!

Sunshine definitely take advantage of good weather when you have it 🌞

No flying here yet. After work I'll have a softball game, dinner, get my clothes out for the next day, make my lunch, shower, then bed! I will try to do some yoga stretches as well though after softball, as it really makes me hurt!

OP posts:
BloomingHazel · 22/05/2025 03:49

Well, softball really did a number on my quad muscle tonight. I can barely walk! It's swollen and so, so painful 😫 I'm glad we have a week off from playing. I'm currently elevating it with some frozen veggies on it.

DH & DS took care of dinner (just leftovers) and clearing up, rotating DW etc.
I just have to do my evening routine before bed tonight.

OP posts:
BloomingHazel · 22/05/2025 03:53

Thursday is errand day.

Thursday's mission is to clear off your bedside tables. Get rid of anything that doesn't belong, like empty glasses, tissues etc.
Wipe it down then put something nice/ pretty on it. Find a home for everything else.

Friday is clean out your car & purse day. It's also date night.

Friday's mission is to remake your bed. Strip out down, get clean sheets out. Flip or turn the mattress. Spray it with fabric spray or a disinfectant spray if there's been sickness in your house. Remake your bed with the clean sheets, fluff your pillows.

Baby Step 23: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-23/
Add "start dinner" to a new section in your control journal. Name it afternoon routine or after work/ school routine.

Good morning

I know there only little once but we are considering a third and each child will be about 5 years apart so if we do, little children will be a longer chunk of our lives. (Can you tell it's DH who's more keen, and allthough I'm happy to stop with 2 children, I have moments when I see babies when I'd love another, and just so interested to see another personality develop. But this is it's own thread)

I woke up early and could do my morning routine without being disturbed, including hotspots! I don't wear shoes on the house but may start as I have started wearing arch support due to flat feet, however, I may get myself an inside pair. My arch support shoes broke last week and I quickly bought a pair that aren't as supportive. Then, wearing no shoes, making dinner standing on a tiled floor my big toe joint became very painful. My toes are heading towards bunions like my mum, as well as flat feet so I ordered a support online and have used cotton wool and tape on the meantime. I will buy better insoles today...I have been walking less but walking is really important to me. A colleague recommended a podiatrist, I may have to book an appointment as I'm currently winging it. I've seen 2 NHS GP based people about. First one is a muscular skeletal physiotherapist, recommended the high arch. Yesterday I had a booked in GP checkup so mentioned my toe, he agreed it was turning in and said what I'd done with the tape and cotton wool is generally recommended at this stage.

@BloomingHazel ouch that muscle pain sounds bad. Hope you feel better soon and take it easy. I pulled a muscle in my back months ago, just giving ds a bath, and jumping to stop him throwing a jug of water out and I kept feeling it for ages.

To do today:
Go to work - busy day
Check out baby steps, currently on 9, may just aim for maintaining them rather than adding more yet.
Someone is up now I can hear....

DillyDeclutter · 23/05/2025 08:08

Morning

Yes clean the car definitely on the list - I usually feel I'm fairly on top of it but I unexpectedly had to give some colleagues a lift and it suddenly looked a lot dirtier. (Grot under the car seats!)

I got a lot of stuff shifted from the conservatory and it's looking better.

22in2022 mine are 3 and 6 and I'm vaguely thinking no 3 would be nice - but I hated the baby stage and don't think I could go back!

Hope the leg is feeling better Hazel!

Has been busy busy at work, one more week to push through and then it should die down for a bit.
