Join us in building routines to make housework more manageable. Start out with the baby steps, add in the missions in each zone, it will eventually become second nature. Jump right in, you're never left behind!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in 😊

May's habit of the month is daily loving movement. Whatever gets you moving, whether it's walking, dancing, cycling, gardening etc. 🚲🕺💃🏊

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.
There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!
Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.

full disclosure: the Flylady website is going through some changes and there have been some issues with it loading/ updating, so I will do my best!

Morning

Must apply for the PTA lottery licence today. Putting it here so it gets done. It's been my procrastination headache for a week.

House okay because we aren't here - working long hours and dc in childcare. Then working again after dc in bed. If I can make it to Friday, I'll be through it!

2in2022twoyearson · 28/05/2025 09:24

I found a sleep strategy online, the 10-3-2-1 rule. Decide one your bedtime, mine is 10, I know that's early. No caffeine for 10 hours before, no food or alcohol 3 hours before. No work 2 hours prior, then 1 hour before a specific routine. Online said something like dark and dim, just to stretches, but I don't stick to it. I'll often watch tv. My DH said the no blue light in the evening theory has been debunked recently l. It's more about the type of screen time, eg social media is bad for sleep but passive TV watching ok.

My evening routine, loosely based on flylady, her baby steps do talk a lot about sleep health. 1)Clean toddler high chair and shine sink. 2) Let go of anything that's bothering me. Maybe I'll do some journaling and writing tomorrow's to do list and/ordo a bit of painting/my sticker book. 3) lay out clothes for tomorrow.

2in2022twoyearson · 28/05/2025 09:26

Also, since I've been not snacking in the evening, I may prep breakfast instead, by making overnight oats and this helps.

BloomingHazel · 28/05/2025 18:30

2in2022 thank you for the info on the sleep! My bedtime should be 10:30pm, to get 7 hours. On a good night I'm asleep by 11pm 🤦‍♀️ last night I fell asleep at 11:45pm! It was hard waking up this morning.
It's hard for me to not eat 3 hours before bedtime sometimes because I'm not home until 6:30pm, and usually still have to cook dinner. We are trying to eat earlier though, lately.

Dilly does that mean after Friday you won't have as long hours to work?

SunshineAndSpringCleaning · 28/05/2025 18:34

Slowed down a lot this week after spending so much effort last week in driving and organising. g

2in2022twoyearson · 28/05/2025 18:54

My husband does the cooking and he's really keen on eating early. Dinner is often leftovers or he makes a quick curry. I think what's made a bigger difference to me is not snacking after dinner rather than getting hung up about exactly 3 hours.

BloomingHazel · 29/05/2025 05:59

Sunshine having an easy time of it is necessary sometimes too. We all have to remember to rest!

2in2022 we are eating earlier for the most part, especially days like today when DH cooked dinner. He gets home before I do every day.

DS had already rotated the DW & washed a lol by the time I got home today. They are almost done with school here (one more day, a half day even).
After dinner we did a little softball practise, I took it very easy on my legs.

I have my clothes out & my lunch ready for the morning. It's now 11pm. But I'm in bed!

Thursday is errand day.

Thursday's mission is to go sofa and chair diving. Dig through the furniture and see what what you can find! Any socks? Cereal? Half eaten crisp? A pen?

We are coming to the end of another month. Is there anyone willing to take over the thread for June?
I don't remember if we already had a volunteer, I'm sorry, but with the traveling I'll be doing in a couple of weeks, I can't guarantee I'll be able to keep up on it.

OP posts:
SunshineAndSpringCleaning · 29/05/2025 17:11

Thank you @BloomingHazel 😀 It has been a stressful month, and we are thankfully now at the end of study leave. I’ll be very glad to be back to normal on Monday.

Once again I’m going through each room and hotspot to track down all the paper in the house. It’s not as disorganised as it has been in the past, but there are a few alarming gaps from when my mental health took a nosedive.

Teens are more open to the idea of decluttering now that they see me doing better in that area.

DillyDeclutter · 29/05/2025 17:11

Yes! I will do June (unless you get another willing volunteer that is). It might help to keep me on track.

Poisonwood · 29/05/2025 23:32

Hi, can I join you all? I’ve gotten pretty dispirited about housework…I don’t WANT to be messy, but illnesses mean I’m hit with a lot of fatigue and unmedicated ADHD doesn’t help any of it either. No excuses, I know I can be more (gently) disciplined. Tomorrow I will clean out the car, clean out my handbag to start using it again and shine my sink…baby steps.

BloomingHazel · 30/05/2025 00:13

Of course you can join us Poisonwood! It sounds like a good plan for starting out tomorrow. A little at a time can make a big difference overall. Don't feel like you have to do everything all at once either.

Dilly thank you so much for volunteering for June, you're a lifesaver! It really can help to keep you on track, until life gets in the way!

Sunshine it's amazing how much "lead by example" can motivate others, re teens and decluttering. It must be making a difference, you should be proud of yourself 💐

Friday is clean out your car & purse day.
It is also date night.

Friday's mission is to place something in the living room that is pretty, just for you. Maybe some freshly picked flowers out of the garden, or buy a small bouquet from the shop.

Am exhausted after unexpectedly spending six hours solid building flat pack furniture…I did go and clean the car out whilst also sorting dinner though, so am pleased with that.

2in2022twoyearson · 30/05/2025 21:12

I am just getting into the missions and zones while slowly working my way through babysteps.

I was very tired at work today, evening alone which is unusual for me, husband and kids are due back soon, we went to his parents for the day. I got a little bit more done than when everyone is in
Tadas after 5:20: walked dog - normaly DH does this.
Set a 15 minute timer to do focused housework:

Loaded dishwasher and cleaned sink...a few times while trying to wash the pan. I struggle with the kitchen, seem to do everything in the wrong order and there's always more mugs and dirty surfaces. DH just makes it clean and tidy in no time, we are like gender roles reversed there. Also cleaned the dining table, high chair fed dog and put all the library books in one bag.

Rested for a long while. Did a mission from this week.I just went on a sofa treasure hunt and found 1 paintbrush, 1 sequin, 2 pebbles, 2 pieces of dog kibble, 7 raisins, 7 play buttons, one plastic coin and lots of crumbs and dog hair. And it looked so clean on the top! I'm just glad there was nothing sticky.

BloomingHazel · 31/05/2025 00:29

2in2022 I do think that some people are just wired to be more naturally clean and tidy (as in, it comes easier to those people) when others have to put more thought into it and struggle more, it's human nature. But those same people could find other things easier, so it works both ways.
Well done for getting so much done! It's nice having a house to yourself and it definitely makes it easier.

Poisonwood you had a productive day too! Well done on the zone work.

No ta das to report. DS is home and will have done the home bleugh today for me (vacuum, mop, clean bathrooms). I'm still at work, currently on my break, but only planning on getting some veggies and flowers planted tonight (and this weekend).

CherryogDog · 31/05/2025 13:03

I've cleaned my fridge, it was well overdue 🤢.
Unfortunately I can't get the drawers back in 😁

BloomingHazel · 31/05/2025 17:21

Oh no Cherry! Are they just not lining up?!
I'm going to need to clean my fridge out properly like that, but that'll be next weekend's job as we'll be gone for 10 days starting next Monday (9th).

Last night we got the seeds in the raised beds for the vegetables we are growing. I then took a shower, scrubbed, shaved & applied self tanner.
I ended up going to bed at midnight, then waking up at almost a quarter to ten this morning! I've not slept in that late for months, at least! I feel refreshed and rested though.

Plan for today is to plant my flowers in the ground (finally!). It's going to be a hot day so wanted to do it this morning (it's now almost 10:30am and pretty warm already) 🤦‍♀️

Saturday is family fun day. No missions.

Baby Step 31: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-31/
She wants us to sign up for the daily emails. I've never done this as I've heard it's a ridiculous amount sent out every day. If you choose to, that's up to you, but you have been warned!

What fun things are you up to today?

@BloomingHazel what veg are you growing? I’m in the Highlands and vegetables have not done well the last few years as we’ve had awful weather. Fingers crossed for this year.
Family fun day was DD(8) birthday! So I’m now pretty tired but the kitchen is clear, sink shiny and all party food leftovers dealt with…I’m pretty proud of all that! I know I need to work on being my future friend…I just get so tired mentally I think.

BloomingHazel · 31/05/2025 20:18

We just planted bell peppers (red & yellow) plants. Yellow squash, zucchini, butternut squash and spaghetti squash seeds. We are in the US though.
We already have red onions, sweet onions, spring onions, romaine lettuce, buttercrunch lettuce, red iceberg lettuce, spinach, jalapeño peppers and strawberries planted. I'm crossing my fingers for you 🤞as well as us. This is the first year of us growing any vegetables, other than my rhubarb!

Well done for cleaning up so quickly! Happy birthday to your DD! 🥳

Morning, yesterday I did babystep 3 and discovered the family setting on my Google calendar so added DD birthday party to it.

DD is sick with a vomiting bug so I'm going to take her dovet to the laundromat today if it's open

BloomingHazel · 01/06/2025 15:31

2in2022 I really hope your DD is feeling better soon!
