Join us in building routines to make housework more manageable. Start out with the baby steps, add in the missions in each zone, it will eventually become second nature. Jump right in, you're never left behind!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in 😊

May's habit of the month is daily loving movement. Whatever gets you moving, whether it's walking, dancing, cycling, gardening etc. 🚲🕺💃🏊

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.
There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!
Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.

full disclosure: the Flylady website is going through some changes and there have been some issues with it loading/ updating, so I will do my best!

Wednesday is anti-procrastination day. Do something that you have been putting off.

Wednesday's mission is to check your supplies in your bathroom. If you need anything, add it to your list.
In the kids bedroom (or the worst room in the house, if you don't have a kid) spend 15 minutes in there, making it better.

Read the essay about how to use a calendar.
Keep up on the routines we're working on as well.

Sorry I haven't added much lately, I've been busy, but also so tired!

YesTaDas:
🦥 LOLs x4, including sheets
🦥 dusted
🦥 vacuumed
🦥 mopped
🦥 took a nap!
🦥 grocery shopping
🦥 cleared the main hotspot in the house!
🦥 swept carport
🦥 sprayed off the patio (pollen is everywhere right now!)

I did NOT clean the bathrooms like I really need to, and didn't get as much laundry done as I should have. I also should have baked cupcakes, but was lazy on the couch in the evening instead, so tonight might be a late night because of that 🙄
MIL did come over a couple of times yesterday as well, partly why I didn't get as much done.

OP posts:
SparrowFeet · 14/05/2025 22:00

Great work @BloomingHazeland love that you had a nap too!

Good day today - up at 6am
x 2 dog walks. Took a picnic with me at lunch so I could make the most of the sun in the middle of my working day
vacummed everywhere - dog seems to be malting more than usual!
Routines done ✔️
15 minutes spent on the cupboard under the sink
Also started to do a little wardrobe appraisal using chat gpt to help take the load off planning my work outfits. Every little helps!

2in2022twoyearson · 15/05/2025 06:19

Good Morning,

Thanks for the good luck for my exam. Exam 1 went ok, exam 2 did not, but they're over now, I'm glad. I have one more assignment to do....I'll start that Monday. today I have a day with toddler son, have booked a 'forest school.' a toddler group outdoors, I've not done before looks good.

I am yet to complete baby steps, sometimes I've done a random step as the day of the month, but today I'm starting on day 6 as it's been a while since I've done it. That is hotspots, 2 minute timer. I have been enjoying timers for revision and breaks, they keep me vaguely on track.

I've lost track of who's who's and what's what, but I hope the house hunting is going well for whoever was doing that and any teenager children with exams are doing ok too!

Todo:
*Complete morning routine
*School run
*Either go straight out and do some errands before forest school or come home.
*Forest school
*Lunch at cafe
*Toddler nap - hotspots
*School run.
*Dinner
*Evening routine

DillyDeclutter · 15/05/2025 07:39

Morning!

Day off today- house is okay. I want to do some of the zone 3 detailed cleans today. Zone 3 is the one that gets missed in my house as I have a work deadline that usually falls on the 18th!

I have also been regularly sweeping and weeding our little back yard which has made a big difference. Needs another sweep today. Need some pots and flowers out there really. Maybe next year.

22in2022 I also have a day with the little one. She doesn't nap any more, sadly! I love the idea of forest school but we only have one lady round here who runs classes, sadly they are run in a very "relaxed" way and somewhat overrun by older homeschooling families. We are off swimming and doing the food shop.

Hazel you always get so much done!

2in2022twoyearson · 15/05/2025 14:14

@DillyDeclutter that sucks that it's overrun by older children, I think this is 18m-4 years specificly and was nice. Allthough my toddler loves running around with older children having a big sister himself. The lady who runs it said she goes to school and the activity was definitely more primary school age craft, I had fun making it (a spider and web). There was also books on a blanket and a mud kitchen, but he didn't play with these. Im still sat in the car with toddler napping (long may naps continue) I've got about an hour until in picking DD up from school, she does have a regular booking at after school club but I let her decide if she wants to go or have me pick her up as she had extra after school club yesterday and she chose me picking her up. Anyway, I can't really be bothered to do much, but I can do 2 minutes of hotspots at least.

lifeisgoodrightnow · 15/05/2025 16:00

Hi everyone can I join you ? I always worked full time until medical retirement at 49 and never really learnt routines or how to clean effectively and I’m not a naturally tidy person but doing the fly lady ( off and on ) over the last couple of years has really helped and I’m even starting to make habits I never had ( make bed, swish and swipe). I’ve just decluttered our laundry room and it’s taken ALL day but I’ve let fly lady go these last few months so am ready to get back into it . I know that it gets easier as the clutter disappears and the weeks go by. 4 grown kids ( left home) and 5 dogs and one very DH so life is full. I’m properly disabled so everything takes me a very long time to do but it does feel good to see the results. Anyway hello ! Very pleased to find this thread.

BloomingHazel · 15/05/2025 19:48

Welcome @lifeisgoodrightnow 👋 so glad you found us! I love your username 😍
You sound like you have your hands full!

Dilly it's easier for me to get things done now DS is 15! It was a lot harder when he was little.
If I were you I would have at least one pot with flowers, probably 2, to balance it out, but I actually enjoy gardening (well, not weeding!), and buy lots of plants every year.

2in2022 I'm sorry to hear the 2nd exam didn't go so well, will you have the chance to take it again at a later date?

SparrowFeet it's that time of year for the dogs to malt, gotta love the weather changing! I keep seeing things on mn about the chat GPT , but I have yet to use it. It seems like it'll do anything and everything!

Well, after work last night we had a softball game, have no idea who won, but there was drama with a fight, hallway through (nothing to do with the game!), and the cops had shown up, although stayed in the car park, didn't speak to anyone. It was crazy!
I ended up baking cupcakes at 9pm, they were done at 11pm, and still needed to take a shower before bed! I wake up at 5:30am for work so I'm tired today!

OP posts:
BloomingHazel · 15/05/2025 19:56

I'm sorry I didn't get links up before I went to bed last night, and I know they are really late for you guys today. But here they are just in case you still feel motivated..

Thursday is errand day (too late, I know!)

Thursday's mission is to toss old, expired makeup & cosmetics. If you haven't used it in the last year, toss it! It could be harboring bacteria.

In the kids bedroom (or worse room in the house), set your timer for 15 minutes. Go through their toys, toss anything broken, donate what isn't getting played with. Declutter or tidy & organise the other room, if it's already decluttered.

Baby Step 15: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-15/
Add making your bed to your morning routine. If you decide to air it instead, do so, but fold it over neatly so it looks nice (instead of bedding crumpled in a ball)

Writing my acomlishments here as I've put reviewing my acomlishments part of my bedtime routine
Ta da
Complete morning routine
School run
Forest school
Toddler nap - hotspots (babysteps 4) and general tidying up
Just wiped and dried my sink.

To doh (not sure if thats a thing)
Was late to the afternoon school run, feel so guilty, she was the last out the gate. Toddler had not long woken from his nap and needed a poo then was tantruming about leaving toys and getting shoes on, but also even though I'd set myself a timer, it was not enough time for us to get to the gates.
Dinner was takeaway and DH made lunches for tomorrow.

Back to work tomorrow....
And yes I can do resists.

lifeisgoodrightnow · 16/05/2025 15:44

today I washed the dogs. Not sure which ‘zone’ that comes under so I declared it zone 3 :-)

BloomingHazel · 16/05/2025 17:57

I did it again! I'm so sorry for not posting last night, I was so tired I just passed out as soon as I was in bed (I didn't have time to sit & relax before bed, which is when I usually post).

So Friday is clean out your car and purse day. It is also date night.

Friday's mission is to grab an old toothbrush and scrub around your taps in the sink and bath.
In the other room (kids room), clean everything out from under the bed.

2in2022 putting your accomplishments here is a good idea, not only does it help you realise what you have actually done, it can also motivate someone else reading it.
We have all been late at least once to pick our DCs up, they really do recover, especially as it was just a few minutes late, not hours.
That's good to hear you have another chance at your exams too!

lifeisgood washing the dogs in zone 3 works for me! Especially since you have 5 dogs!
What breeds are they all? I have 2 daschunds who rule the house!

OP posts:
2in2022twoyearson · 16/05/2025 20:36

Tadas
Morning routine - mine is 1coffee and journaling 2 get dressed, wash and moisturise face, brush teeth and hair. 3 unload dishwasher 4 get children up if still asleep at 7. 5 stretch and squat 6 eat breakfast. I bookend one and 6 but the others are in any order l. Perhaps it would be easier if I did things in the same order every morning?

Day back at work
Unloaded and reloaded dishwasher
Watered garden

To do: I'm on babysteps 7 which means lay out my clothes for tomorrow and sticking to my new habbit. I always forget laying clothes out. I have a long evening routine written on my controll journal which I don't do but have cut it down to hotspots, laying out clothes and brushing teeth as am restarting babysteps.

BloomingHazel · 16/05/2025 23:20

2in2022 I would do the morning routine in the same order, that way it becomes automatic without thinking about what you've done and what you need to do.
I'm trying to change up my evening routine a little bit (to take meds closer to dinner instead of right before bed) and it's throwing me and the dogs off! Coco gets her meds at night too, right after I take mine, and they may work better if I give them to her right after dinner, but I keep forgetting because it's not our normal routine! 🤦‍♀️

Special Family Fun day for us since DD's very recently had a DD herself.
We've met the new DGD but haven't seen her together with her big sister. Big sis seems to be doting on her, so very much looking forward to the four of them coming round today Smile
Haven't posted much recently but have been enjoying keeping up with everyone's news. Many thanks, Hazel. I really don't know how you do everything you do - "inspirational" isn't too big a word.

Jack Russell crosses aka rescue mutts and adorable they are too :-) I love a daschund !! One of my mutts has little legs and looks like a corgi

We're going to nla national trust place today

BloomingHazel · 17/05/2025 15:37

LaMarschallin how exciting to have a new granddaughter! I love that the big sister is doting on her. That baby has a lot of love around her!

You are very kind, I would not call myself inspirational though! Run ragged and tired is more like it 😂 late nights and early mornings, so not enough sleep here, that's how it's done. I wouldn't recommend!

lifeisgood oooh I bet they are adorable! And with lots of energy, I assume!

2in2022 I hope you have a great day! When we visit we'll have to make a point to visit a local national trust location.

Last night I had my little pamper session. Showered, scrubbed, shaved & applied self tanner.
We went out for dinner, but that's down to poor planning on my part as well as the grocery store not having what I was after.

Today we are going to be outside, in the gloomy weather, planting the rest of our vegetable garden, as well as the flowers I got last weekend.
DH also wants to go to the ball fields to practise throwing and catching the softball, and/or going to the indoor batting cage to practise hitting the ball.
I tried to run last night, just little sprints in the back garden and pulled my muscle again with the first step 😭 I think I really need to take it easy with it. Time in the hot tub and yoga to stretch last night really helped, but I still feel like it's going to do it again.

EndlesslyDecluttering · 17/05/2025 16:12

We used to play softball in one of my old jobs @BloomingHazel , someone had the set, we’d all head down to a local green after work and play, then go to the pub it was good fun, that was a very sociable workplace. In fact it was where I met DH Smile.

Sorry for not posting much since handing over the thread to @BloomingHazel I have been lurking, have had a very busy spell, a breather for a week or so now then back to it. Both my jobs have been busy, luckily my school governoring hasn’t but that steps back up again this week, I spend more time on that than job 2 at times (job 2 is only half a day a week). But both DCs have needed support, DS finishing his dissertation, applying for jobs and needing taking to an interview and DD with A levels. Plus a lot of work needed at this time of year in both garden and allotment. I have decided to make a mini pond at the allotment, DH is not a gardener but is good at digging and carrying, I have bought a little pond liner, need to dig out some gound and set it in, then put rocks, plants etc and hopefully there might be some rainwater to fill it, none for ages though, so spending a lot of time watering.

Tada!
Parkrun
Breakfast at a cafe and diary catch up
Shopping (food and non food)
Two lots of laundry washed and on line
About an hour of gardening plus a tip run to get rid of random crap

Both our doors open directly onto path/patio and have those wire and bristle mats outside, both were very worn out so have bought new ones, removed weeds, stones and soil that had crept under and around, given both areas a good sweep and am please with that.

Oh and yesterday I spontaneously had a total clear out of our man food cupboard as it was overflowing. Need to do the fridge as well. DD buys quite a it of her own food now, and DS will be home form uni soon and he does too, we have a fridge in the garage for drinks and insulin, might have to adopt that into proper kitchen use too.

BloomingHazel · 17/05/2025 23:19

ED you've definitely got a lot going on right now! I need to replace our door mat as well.
A little pond at the allotment sounds like such a fun idea!

Ta das:
🌺 LOLs x4
🌺 all clean LOLs put away
🌺 planted flowers in 2 pots
🌺 handwashed dishes
🌺 wiped countertops
🌺 cleaned both bathrooms
🌺 cleaned mirrors

We didn't get as much planting done as we were hoping (DH & I) as it started pouring down with rain 🌧
We'll have dinner at ILs tonight, leaving the dogs there. We're going to be out all day tomorrow, leaving early, to go spend the day with DD. I'm taking her shopping for some summer clothes (& me!) while DH & DS have fun go-kart racing.

BloomingHazel · 18/05/2025 14:23

lifeisgood well done on losing 2 stones! That's is such a good achievement.

I'm up and ready this morning (7:20am here), waiting for DH to get up and DS to be ready. We are heading to the big city to see DD and go shopping (more so for us girls, the boys will be doing other fun stuff). I would like to leave here by 8am. I'm hoping DH set an alarm at this point..
