First home. Offered to buy something useful. Was asked for cool toaster and kettle. I am paralysed - I think I remember having views on these sorts of things in my 20s (nobody wanted an eternal beau granny kettle did they) but I’m not up with trends in kettle design now. Have looked and there is a vast range. Please post links of suggestions - assume money no object - obv it is but I’m just interested in aesthetics at the moment. Ta very much!

Smeg?

loropianalover · 25/04/2024 17:06

Eek! What a request - can you give a voucher instead?

SMEG’s are the aesthetic choice for a lot of people but how are you supposed to know what their favourite colour would be?

Swan Nordic Range (or the Asda rip-off version). Or something from De'Longhi. No idea if they are on trend but if they were that bothered they would have specified so I wouldn't worry too much.

MILTOBE · 25/04/2024 17:07

How much would they spend if they were to buy one of each?

GrumpyPanda · 25/04/2024 17:09

Was going to suggest the Alessi musical kettle. A modern design classic but omg have they become expensive.

I think copper finish is seen as quite desirable. We’ve just bought a new toaster and decided to spend more this time, as the delonghi etc ones we’ve had in the past have died after two years. We’ve gone for a four slice dualit one, they have this in copper finish. £220 with a five year guarantee.

All the 20 somethings I follow on Instagram for various reasons all have the cream smeg kettle and toaster.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 25/04/2024 17:32

Would they use a Ninja 3-in-1 toaster (also grills and makes toasties/paninis)? Comes in silver or black and has a matching kettle. https://ninjakitchen.co.uk/ninja-catalog/ninja-kettles-and-toasters/

DH has bought new home/ wedding presents for a few of his 20 something staff over the last year, and Smeg kettle/toasters have been the request from them

KirstenBlest · 25/04/2024 20:06

Russell Hobbs kettle and a cheap toaster that doesn't look naff.

Bluewallss · 25/04/2024 20:09

As a 20-something person smeg is all the rage

Penguinsa · 25/04/2024 20:14

I would go with SMEG - do you know kitchen colours? White might be safest if don't.

rightoguvnor · 25/04/2024 20:18

I'd go for Dualit, from the Architect range. If budget problematic try the Dualit Lite range. I think the handle on the Lite kettle is quite trendy. I have the stainless steel with canvas white trim. My kettle is put to heavy duty and I've just replaced it after 7 yrs, my toaster is the same age and going strong.

ColourByNumbers88 · 25/04/2024 20:19

Dualit.

doneandone · 25/04/2024 20:20

Dualit

Autumn1990 · 25/04/2024 20:22

I’ve got swan retro and they’ve lasted really well so any swan design would be fine.

Runnerinthenight · 25/04/2024 20:29

What's the budget? Are you expected to spend a fortune?

I love my De Longhi matching kettle and toaster and have had them for a few years with no problems.

My 20 something bought pink Dunelm!

VerityUnreasonble · 25/04/2024 20:32

Do they do smart home stuff? I have a kettle that connects to my Alexa devices and putting it on so its hot by the time I get downstairs/ when I walk in the front door makes me happy. Also variable temp which is good for tea / coffee.

I think the Dualit architect range looks pretty cool! But pretty pricey...

Rainbowshit · 25/04/2024 20:34

If I didn't have a hot water tap I'd buy this kettle for myself.

In terms of toasters can't go wrong with a classic dualit. Will last forever.

  1. what's the budget?
  2. can't they choose? Give them a voucher to go to the shops with you.

My 20 something bought pink Dunelm!

20 something friend has these from The Range.
