Have been asked to buy a “cool kettle and toaster” for a 20-something. Help

First home. Offered to buy something useful. Was asked for cool toaster and kettle. I am paralysed - I think I remember having views on these sorts of things in my 20s (nobody wanted an eternal beau granny kettle did they) but I’m not up with trends in kettle design now. Have looked and there is a vast range. Please post links of suggestions - assume money no object - obv it is but I’m just interested in aesthetics at the moment. Ta very much!

Ninja 3 in 1 toaster, grill & panini maker. Comes in black (to match the Ninja airfryers!) or stainless steel.

My 20 something bought pink Dunelm!

20 something friend has these from The Range.

I like those. DD's are a kind of ombre effect. It was about 3 years ago so they might not do them any more.

Ineffable23 · 25/04/2024 21:16

I would ask whether they would prefer to pick it or whether they want to not think about it. I suspect they'd rather choose, I know I would have. Give a clear budget and then just buy that.

If not, I actually really like the idea of a smart kettle - being able to boil water for my tea from my bed sounds like a great success.

I have a Russell Hobbs toaster which has been going for 12 years so far and survived moving in and out of uni 18 times, so I'd highly recommend that for longevity but I don't think it could be deemed cool.

We have this Alessi set. Often come up on eBay.

John lewis vouchers! Much safer!

I'm coveting the black Alessi Plissé kettle and toaster - they come in other colours. I'm hoping they'll be on sale at some point!

They have a cool, scandi vibe (yes, I know they're Italian 😄). You'd want to be sure she'd like and take care of them at that price though!

Dualit.

It's a lovely gesture from you OP, but I have to ask who is spending £200 on a kettle?!?

Exactly!!!!!

Delphigirl · 26/04/2024 00:05

Oh thank you everyone!
surprised smug are so popular when they are so heavily branded with SMEG in giant letters. But nice colours. Like the dualit copper personally, thanks for that recommendation. I can see alessi is cool but now have to gird myself for prices… off to google

I like the Sage stuff. But it's probably only middling cool.

beAsensible1 · 26/04/2024 00:09

Dualit, Smeg, delonghi

Delphigirl · 26/04/2024 00:15

smeg is mad prices and I hate the branding. Dualit is v nice and like the copper but £300 ish for both… decent value for quality and longevity probably. Alessi I don’t think I like enough and microplastics? Think they would prefer metal kettle.

Will have a look at sage but they are anti smart home stuff (no Alexa etc)

We have a sage kettle which looks good

Sage also do toasters

Oh I really like this, they have it in a sludgy khaki which is great but no matching toaster. Not that it has to match I guess

Immediate thought would be the obvious Smeg.. But having bought into that ideal a couple of years ago at huge expensive and now having neither the kettle or toaster still working, I would go Dualit.

Smeg maybe lovely to look at, but couldn’t justify the price for something that only lasts a couple of years. The kettle was too loud and the toaster took an age. They did look so good though!

Dualit looks good but also lasts from what I’ve seen.

northchesterforest · 26/04/2024 01:51

HADEN do great toaster/kettles

Branster · 26/04/2024 02:15

I would consider Kitchen Aid.
They look classic with a nod to 60s so you still get that Smeg vibe (if that's the 'In' thing now).
The quality is exceptional and the customer service is amazing.
Plenty of colours to choose from.

I don't know if this is 'cool' but I like it. I know teenagers can be perplexing though... a 'cool' toaster😆. Kettle and toaster £25 each and they have lasted a few years so far.

So I'm not the only one who was a bit🤔 about a 'cool' kettle and toaster 😆 the prices of some of them are outrageous 😯

Do they do smart home stuff? I have a kettle that connects to my Alexa devices and putting it on so its hot by the time I get downstairs/ when I walk in the front door makes me happy. Also variable temp which is good for tea / coffee.

We have the same kettle. We wouldn't do without it. Perfect tea at 90 degrees. 🫖

Seriously saves time in the morning as well.

NashvilleQueen · 26/04/2024 06:52

I always like a glass kettle. Doesn't work so well for toasters though

Saralouhe · 26/04/2024 06:58

I don't get the smeg thing. Makes me gippy. Why would you want the word smeg all over your kitchen.

When we bought our first flat I was eyeing up a Smeg fridge until my now Dh told me what smeg is. I don't know if this word is generally used - english is not my first language and not surprisingly I've never had a conversation involving the word smeg aside from this one with my dh - so maybe people don't know what smeg means for (at least some of us). My Dh told me it means dried cum. I assume that's right. I just realised I've never checked this with anyone else, perhaps he was winding me up.
