Are you looking to finally getting into a new routine with housework? Something simple to start that can be easy to add to over time? Flylady may be the answer for you!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight in the UK

@HazelNotHungryLC what recipe do you use for the GF cheesecake? My sympathies for other people not trying to bake things the way you need and doing it yourself. Full support for your plan to do what you want for Easter!

@Hemax1 a question for you about NCT sales - is it worth the membership for early access? Or is that only good if you know you wang something that'll be "popular"? Glad it went well and you shifted some stuff!

I have no recent flylady big wins, but I have kept the morning routine most days so I'm happy with that. I've started getting morning sickness, so I lost my "morning distraction-time budget" for a few days there. And being in the kitchen is overwhelming so I've been no use for washing up and keeping that evening routine going at all. DW is struggling, and I'm really hoping the nausea/smell sensitivity goes so I can do more there. Hoping to get some basic tidying cleaning wins in today though and update later on ☺️

Hemax1 · 21/03/2024 08:45

@CabbageBearGoat I’ve had early access before and I would say it has been worth it. It’s a lot less busy and everything is still arranged neatly so easier to find what you are looking for.

I was selling this time and volunteered. Which was more worth it, I got rid of a load of items, got less commission taken off from the items I sold, and volunteers get first pick over what is for sale too. Definitely got some bargains this time.

Obviously the branch of the NCT near you can’t guarantee what will be for sale at each sale but they are likely to put up updates on social media of some of the larger items they will have for sale.

CabbageBearGoat · 21/03/2024 08:51

@Hemax1 ah thank you for the wisdom! Will try early access. We have a local one this weekend so I'm intrigued.

TheMainCharacter · 21/03/2024 10:24

Thursday is errand day

Today’s mission is to clear off your nightstand, dust it, and put something on there that you like to look at for example a picture or a candle.

Today’s babystep is to read some of the Ask flylady section on the website.

cabbage I make a strawberry brownie cheesecake, I'll just use the GF flour I got instead of regular plain flour! It's a no bake cheesecake, so for me it's easier to make. I found the recipe on Pinterest.
I hope your morning sickness shifts soon. How far along are you now?

After work yesterday I took the Jeep through the carwash and vacuumed it out. I even managed a few minutes of yoga before bed! Not much else was done by me, although DH & DS had cleaned up the front garden by the time I got home.

CabbageBearGoat · 21/03/2024 14:51

@HazelNotHungryLC 6 weeks so I think it's only just begun... managed okay this morning, so hopefully it'll stay manageable!

Today's wins:
🎉Vacuumed B1, B2, study, hallway
🎉Tidied floor in front of wardrobe
🎉Emptied bins
🎉Refilled printer tray, dusted printer

EndlesslyDistracted · 21/03/2024 20:26

@Hemax1 @CabbageBearGoat I was in the NCT when DS was a baby (did ante-natal classes). Not only was it very worthwhile for the sales (I volunteered as well as buying and selling) but I made good friends through it. DCs are 18 and 20 now and I still see a lot of the friends.

TheMainCharacter · 22/03/2024 09:28

Morning everyone
The good news is I am covid free! Still feel very drained and tired though.
I’m away this weekend so won’t be posting but I’ll pop the baby steps for the next couple of days below.

Friday is clean your car and purse out. Also date night.

Today’s mission is to take 15 minutes to declutter the top of your dresser.

Today’s babystep is to learn how to build your control journal

Saturday is family fun day
Saturday’s baby step is to add an afternoon routine to your day

Sunday is renew your spirit
Sunday’s baby step is to add a swish and swipe to your morning routine

Have a good weekend away main 🥳
Thank you for posting the links!

I don't work today, but will be driving to DD (a couple hours away) to be with her for her oral surgery. I'm bringing her here to recover and we'll take her back on Sunday.

Searchingforsnow · 23/03/2024 07:09

Good morning everyone ☕️☕️

I've made a lot of progress on the master bedroom this week but I did miss out Thursday and Friday, a bit frustrated with that, however, sometimes life happens . I'm still working overtime so I'm happy that any amount of decluttering is getting done ! I'm planning on having another 15 minutes in there today then starting on the living and kids playroom . I have an area of the dining room that's eating at my brain so I want to tackle that this weekend . It isn't the dining zone yet but I don't want to be looking at it for the next 2 weeks 🤪

To do :
☕️15 mins bedroom
☕️Fold all clean washing
☕️Start the uniform washing
☕️Sort out the computer table in the dining room
☕️15 mins playroom
☕️15 mins living room
☕️Take dd2 to gymnastics
☕️Take ds shopping for his birthday (it's on Tuesday and he wants a fragrance that everyone talks about at school but he has never actually smelt it 😂 so I'm taking him to boots so he can find a fragrance that he likes , rather than following the trend that's popular because it's the most expensive!)
☕️Order next book club book to the library
☕️The usual routines of washed , making beds , making food, clearing dishes etc!

Hemax1 · 23/03/2024 10:26

Have been a bit busy the last few days. I’ve uploaded a lot of the things onto Vinted that hadn’t sold at NCT sale ( still a few more to do ). I’ve had a few more things sell so a few more bits out of the house!

Spent yesterday at the zoo with my kids so nothing in the house achieved ( but it is precious family time ). I have my eldest daughter and a friend coming tomorrow evening to stay for a few nights. Need to tidy and clean both the attic room and the living room as one is staying in each.

attic room is a bit of a dumping ground atm ( as its daughters room when she’s not at uni but convenient to pop things in when she is.

living room is also the little kids playroom so gets untidy and dirty on a daily basis !

Have also got usual weekend jobs to get through too especially as last weekend was taken up with the NCT sale.

Hope everyone else manages a productive day !

Springingintolife · 23/03/2024 21:29

hiya i'm new here- can i use flylady for doing small chunks of decorating each day- alongside decluttering and other better habits?

ItsieDitzyBitsOfOnionInTheSoup · 24/03/2024 01:08

Of course you can Spring. We talk about all kinds here. Just add whatever your achievements are to your Ta-da's

Hemax I love the zoo

Glad the decluttering is going well Snow and hope you found a cheaper fragrance for DS. Peer pressure is so awful at that age, the burning desire to fit in and be the same as everyone else

Hope DDs surgery goes ok Hazel

Enjoy your trip Character

Not much zone flying going on here.

Ta-da's from the past week:

🌠Keeping up with the morning and evening routines🧚
🌠DIY repairs🛠️
🌠Made a cake🎂
🌠Read two novels📚
🌠Decluttering here and there 🗑️
🌠Exercising daily 💪

Hemax1 · 24/03/2024 08:17

@ItsieDitzyBitsOfOnionInTheSoup a good list of tadas!

Had a good afternoon yesterday listing some toys on Vinted. The majority have sold already 😃. I’ve also got 4x bags, a large teddy bear and a wooden walker sorted out to go to the charity shop tomorrow morning. Another few items are being picked up today after listing them on our local pass it on site in fb. So decluttering went well !

That has also helped sort out the attic room ready for guests today. That’s been cleaned and tidied. Just need to do the living room today and a quick flick round the rest of the house with a hoover. Also cooking a roast dinner for them arriving. So a busy day again today ! My partner is taking the small ones out to our local farm play area for the day so I can crack on.

oh okay that's great! i've no idea what i'm doing but i did polish by sink just now a la fly lady's advice and decided to start with the kitchen. a little job each day on it. it's half decorated. grout needs cleaning, floor needs cleaning, oven needs clearing and it needs some cobwebbing and fat cleaning off the ceiling (from the previosu tenants, but i've had my hands full since moving in!). My day to day challenge is to not leave paperwork and other things which need going away on the side and keep on top of the washing up and actually cooking the food i buy, so it doesn't go moudly. had a load of hello fresh stuff i didn't really want in the end to cook up, so working on that so i have an empty fridge and can force myself to do a daily walk to the farm shop instead of doing huge shops of stuff which gets forgotten about. pantry is full of grains and pulses etc, so only need to buy basics - bread, milk, eggs, butter, vegetables and water for a while.

I'm deciding to just pretend my kitchen is my entire house, as thinking about the other jobs overwhelms and paralyses me into doing nothing. it's nice just hanging out in there and not seeing anywhere else during the day 😂

ItsieDitzyBitsOfOnionInTheSoup · 24/03/2024 18:45

Spring I totally get you with needing just one sorted space so you've got room to think.

How FlyLady works is it's a system to get you organised so things don't get forgotten and there's time for everything. There's a Zone (room or area) allocated to each week, so it keeps rotating round the house and nothing gets too bad. Obviously you're going to need to focus on repairs before you get onto cleaning. FlyLady also says to declutter before you worry about cleaning (that's the stage I'm at). There's a daily Mission for all those little jobs that don't need doing often. And a daily Babystep, these help to to form routines for a smooth running home life, they rotate monthly. There's also a monthly Habit to focus on for the whole month.

Someone posts the links here to all these daily. Don't worry if it's feeling overwhelming though, just do what you can and you'll pick it up as time goes on

Well done with the sales/giveaways Hemax 🏅 so satisfying when it's all collected/posted out

Ta-da's:

🧡Morning routine
🧡Started my new novel
🧡Put dismantled toys back together
🧡Tidied bedroom
🧡Ate up leftovers for dinner

To-do:

💛Exercise
💛Make tea
💛Evening routine

HazelNotHungryLC · 24/03/2024 19:12

DDs surgery went well, her face is swollen, as expected, but nothing too outrageous.

Welcome @Springingintolife 👋 focusing on one room at a time is a good idea. Hopefully flylady will work for you since that's what she wants us to do! Perfection is not the goal, just "good enough" or "better than it was"

We are driving DD back home now (she's 2 1/2 hours away from us).
I got dinner in the slow cooker this morning so it'll be done by the time we're home again.

TheMainCharacter · 25/03/2024 17:12

Hi everyone, sorry for the lack of links today, hopefully you found what you’re doing on the website or app

We moved into the living room today. Daily mission is here http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions

Today’s baby step is to read her personal testimonial on how she got started
https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-25/

Had to do a big bleurgh today after the weekend away, everyone else stayed home and apparently none of them know how to use a cloth or any cleaning appliances 😡
Am tired now but at least it’s reset a bit ready to continue the week tomorrow

main it's frustrating isn't it? Sometimes I wonder why I bother enjoying mother's day etc. Because when I do take a day off it seems everything is saved for me the next day and not done for me, to give me a true break 🤦‍♀️ <sigh>

I'm at work today, so no flying yet, or will mostly be done tomorrow, when I'm off.
🍒👋 to everyone

Plep · 25/03/2024 19:19

I don't know how I did, I think it's the anxiety eating me up so I'm trying to keep myself busy but here are my tadas for a fresh start to the week!

🌟 cleaned all surfaces and bathrooms
🌟 hoovered and mopped all floors
🌟 husband helped empty the bins 😅 I still count it as a win!
🌟 changed all bedcovers
🌟 2x LOLs
🌟 cleaned out the fridge! (Didn't realise drain was blocked and water had been leaking into the bottom of it so that took about an hour)
🌟 reorganised everything in the freezer
🌟 homeschooled a little with toddler
🌟 rearranged dining table etc to make room for a small freezer

Toddler is in bed now still need to clean shower and have a shower and that'll be me for the day! I'm hoping this way I can spend more time with my toddler, take her out more and concentrate on other tasks that are being left behind for months 🫨

HazelNotHungryLC · 25/03/2024 21:01

Plep that's a very full ta da list, and a good plan to spend more time with your toddler!

I feel like I need to do a deep clean in areas of the house, must be spring.. but definitely a job for tomorrow when I'm home all day.

Plep · 25/03/2024 22:52

Thank you! Yes I think there is something in the air, let the spring cleaning commence 😅

HazelNotHungryLC · 26/03/2024 02:55

I actually had motivation after work today!

Ta das:
🧚‍♀️ washed Jeep on my way home from work
🧚‍♀️ emptied all the rubbish bins
🧚‍♀️ washed handwash dishes
🧚‍♀️ wiped down countertops
🧚‍♀️ finished loading DW

Dinner was leftovers, so super easy. Now I'm relaxing with a cup of bedtime tea, watching TV.

TheMainCharacter · 26/03/2024 06:14

Tuesday is plan and play.

Today’s mission is to go sofa diving. No, not diving off the sofa but looking under all the cushions to find all the stuff that’s worked its way underneath.

Today’s baby step is to remember that you are never behind, and to jump in wherever you are.
